I have 3+ years of programming experience with Python and am a student who is currently learning Java, however due to the nature of Java, I find that maybe attempting a project will be a lot better to learning this rather than simpler methods of python. Would perhaps making a Minecraft mod be a good starter project or is that too much, what projects would you suggest to someone with little Java experience. I have no idea where to start off. Thank you in advance and apologies if this is the wrong channel to ask about this, I have 0 clue on where to ask about this

Given your solid programming background in Python, jumping into Java projects is a great way to build fluency in its syntax, OOP principles, and ecosystem. Start with small, focused projects that highlight Java-specific features:

  • Console-based apps: Create command-line tools like a calculator, to-do list manager, or basic inventory system to get familiar with Java syntax, control structures, and data types.
  • Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) exercises: Build class hierarchies (e.g., shapes with inheritance, animal classes with polymorphism) to grasp Java’s OOP model.
  • Simple GUI apps: Use Swing or JavaFX for a basic notepad or a currency converter, giving exposure to event-driven programming and UI components.

Key tips:

  • Emphasize understanding Java's static typing and exception handling.
  • Get comfortable with its collections framework (ArrayList, HashMap, etc.).
  • Familiarize yourself with Java build tools (Maven/Gradle) and the JDK.

By applying your general programming experience to these focused projects, you’ll quickly adapt to Java’s idioms and ecosystem nuances.

Probably not. But you've let the cat out of the bag so that's probably what's going to happen anyway.
