Hello, my screen is way too dark, even with maxed luminosity in game and on the screen, dark places are totally black. Tho places with light are fine, is there a way to fix this problem ?

Here is an AI assisted attempt to answer your question πŸ€–. Maybe it helps! In any case, a human is on the way πŸ‘. To continue talking to the AI, you can use </chatgpt:1108714622413963314>.

m?

It sounds like you may need to adjust the gamma settings on your computer or in the game settings.
Here are some steps you can try to fix the issue:

  1. Check your computer's display settings:

    • Go to your computer's display settings and look for the brightness or gamma options.
    • Adjust the gamma slider to make the screen brighter.
  2. Check the in-game settings:

    • Open the game settings menu and look for options related to brightness, gamma, or contrast.
    • Increase these settings to make dark areas brighter.
  3. Update your graphics drivers:

    • Outdated graphics drivers can sometimes cause display issues.
    • Visit the website of your graphics card manufacturer and download the latest drivers for your specific model.
  4. Check for any third-party software:

    • Some third-party software can also adjust display settings.
    • Make sure there are no programs running that are affecting your screen brightness.

If these steps don't resolve the issue, it could be a hardware problem with your monitor or graphics card. In that case, you may need to consult a professional for further assistance.

Is Windows Night Light on?

#

is there sun shining directly onto your screen?

#

are you wearing a blindfold? πŸ’

like I said

#

At the part where it's bright, it's bright, but at the places with it's dark, it's totally black

late vine
#

oh. So, like, is the screen broken?

hollow needle
#

no ?

late vine
#

Can you share an image of how it looks possibly (using your phone)?

hollow needle
#

For example in minecraft, if I go outside at night, I can't see anything

#

For example with terraria

crimson sage
#

There's no brightness setting?

hollow needle
#

brightness is at max

crimson sage
#

Have you tried adjusting the gamma settings in your video color settings?

hollow needle
crimson sage
#

For reference, on your monitor can you see your avatar?

late vine
crimson sage
#

To me it looks like what I'd expect in such a game without light source.

hollow needle
crimson sage
hollow needle
#

Wait

#

Ah

late vine
#

yeah, so it is your monitor

#

Mabye it's a loose connection?

crimson sage
#

On your screenshot we can see your character, some clouds, grass. etc..

late vine
#

Maybe try to switch around the plugs of your cable (i.e. switch which end goes into your computer and which one goes into your monitor)

crimson sage
#

No, that's not a loose cable unless they're using a VGA monitor.

hollow needle
#

This is what I see

crimson sage
#

If they see something different that's most likely either not full range RGB, or bad gamma settings.

hollow needle
late vine
#

oh

hollow needle
#

My screen only support VGA, my computer only support HDMI

#

well

late vine
hollow needle
#

I can still swap each end tho

late vine
#

Yeah, maybe if you have a different cable altogether, that would be a great way to identify if the root cause is the cable (e.g. because it got damaged while vacuuming)

#

If it's the cable it's a cheap fix, so that would be the desired scenario

#

But before you run off to get a whole new cable, just try to do what Simon has suggested before. Play around with your Gamma, contrast, etc., whatnot settings of your monitor and see what happens

hollow needle
#

The cable is three pieces, a VGA cable, HDMI cable and adaptator

hollow needle
#

they are both at max

late vine
#

Pretty old, isn't it?

hollow needle
#

Yea

#

but My 2 other monitors are dead

late vine
#

:/

hollow needle
#

And I can't seem to find the option in windows to increase the luminosity

late vine
#

Anyway, then yeah, try to play around with the cables, blow onto them to get rid off any dust, if necessary and possible try to exchange certain parts of your HDMI-Apadter-VGA setup and see if that changes stuff.

hollow needle
#

Is there any other way ?

#

I mean

#

I can't find the luminosity option in windows

late vine
#

at least when using regular computer screens

#

Usually that's what "all the buttons" on the computer screen are supposed to do.

hollow needle
#

I basically just need to reduce the contrast upward

late vine
hollow needle
#

I mean, when you reduce contrast, it makes so brightest is less bright, but darkest doesn't change
Here I want the reverse

late vine
hollow needle
hollow needle
#

it just increase the brightest

crimson sage
late vine
#

@hollow needle Also an important question I figure: Is this new? Did it work before?

hollow needle
late vine
#

I mean, it's really hard to tell. It could be all 4, the HDMI cable, the adapter, the VGA cable or the screen itself.
Basically impossible to say anything with certainty from our POV.

hollow needle
#

Pretty sure it's not the HDMI

hollow needle
late vine
#

yeah, pretty sure too, but that's a relatively easy thing to check anyway (cause you can connect it to most if not all screens)

late vine
hollow needle
#

yes

#

but now

#

My screen luminosity is totally messed up

#

but at least I can solve it

crimson sage
#

Likely more a bit of workaround than that it's the cause, but it's better than nothing for now.

late vine
crimson sage
#

I'm glad that it's sorted out, have fun!

hollow needle
#

which is hard

#

Anyway

#

seems good

late vine
#

I have absolutely no clue what about half these options do

late vine
#

?

#

anywho
