#Wrist pain

For the past 4 months, I've been coding over 60 hours a week. Since last 3 weeks I've been feeling a strange strain on my wrist and it develops to be more and more painful with each passing day.

As far as I understand from google, this thing is called Repetitive Strain Injury and that it is not a rare thing among programmers. Many sources mention that unless I solve the issue it can become permanent.

I believe the root cause to be constant programming itself, as I've been using PC my entire life on similar hours but since I was mostly gaming back then my wrist wouldn't be moving as often and certainly not far off from wasd keys.

Did any of you have a similar wrist issue/RSI and what tweaks/solutions worked for you? Please don't reply to this post with go to a doctor, I am looking for people whom experienced something similar or might have ideas that are accessible enough for me to try.

I haven't encountered it myself, and sorry to say but if it lingers you really should get it checked out by a doctor since it can become a permanent issue.

In the interim some tips:
Look into your posture, proper seating/desk height/... matter
Use a wrist rest
Look into vertical mice

Thanks for your concern, I did set up a wrist rest earlier today, I am planning to buy a new desk later this month, one of the sit-standing ones that we've discussed. :D

I am also looking into buying a proper ergonomic split keyboard with elevated wrist rests so that I can have maximum wrist rest and perfect hand position for my shoulder width. I don't use a mouse though, I am fully keyboard ^^

Reason for the "don't reply with go to a doctor" is because I already intend to.

I've had this numerous times over 40+ years. You can buy a wrist brace to wear when you are not using the keyboard. You need to stop using that keyboard immediately and preferably stop gaming or anything else that involves repetitive hand motions. Two weeks minimum. You should treat this seriously because while you might not be keeping track of how often you work with pain, your body is always keeping track. Drink water. Stay hydrated. No energy drinks. No power tools or anything else that vibrates the hand.

Then you need to find a new keyboard and adjust your chair height so you don't have bent wrists while typing. Chair height matters as well.
