Aw thank you, that's very kind
And honestly, it really just comes with pressure practice and muscle memory. The more you try it, the better you'll get at it
I don't really have any specific advice as to what I do with my hands
And I don't use any specialized pencils either, just a pack of silly studio Ghibli themed pencils with bad erasers lol

And I'm not a professional either but I'd be willing to point you to some great resources

Im mostly digital so don't worry...but when i doodle I always apply too much pressure and make my shading too dark =/ tho I am just using fountain pens since I am at work

Originally I was going for a green whirlwind effect, placed a round stone in one spot off to the corner and worked around that. I quickly messed that plan up, discovered metallic paint I forgot I had, then messed up when I spilled purple on the canvas

We had a hurricane up here recently, I found an uprooted sapling and had to set it next to a dehumidifier for two weeks

That gnarled head is the root. I had to strip all the bark off of it, cut off limbs, carve past bad spots, the staff itself was done in about two hours but that root was much tougher, it took days

And I couldn't use my sharp knife because it was too large for those crevices

I ended up using a box cutter, messed up the root several times, it kept losing parts I wanted to keep, so I'd readjust with what I had. Then I sanded the whole thing.

It still needs to be burned a bit, it turns it black, hardens the wood, and sanding it afterwards makes it much smoother than sanding aline

Then a coat of Minwax. It's not an ideal wood, but this should make it reliable
