Hey peeps. I really need help. I'm working on a project so I've been doing concept art of an animal you will play as. Problem is, people keep calling it rain world despite me drawing it from scratch. I don't know if my artstyle is attributed to it but I started to completely redesign the character in an attempt to divide myself from it. The animal is supposed to be a mammal inspired by sea bunnies.

How does one make it not look like a "Rain world character"
change your base shapes- if you look up "slug cat" you will know exactly why people keep telling you that
if you want to do sea bunnies dont make it 4 legged you could even do 6 legs, take out the neck that connects the body, and dont give them tails (if you do sea bunnies have kinda star tail nubs but they arent actual tails), make the eyes smaller (sea sheep could also work) and add he actual lil phalanges (idk what those things are called) all over them or down their back in a few lines
it might help to like use pictures of sea bunnies/ sea sheep as ref right next to where you are drawing cuz rn it makes sense people think its a slug cat (also when you color em not making them white will probs help lol)

The majority of the design choices are there for gameplay reasons.
The tails are the players inventory, the character is bipedal, and for lore reasons, 4 limbs and a neck is kinda intentional. The eyes I can change but too much detail will screw me over for the games sprites since more detail = more animation work; at the same point I cant make them too small or you wont be able to see them due to the extensive zoom out.
As for the little phalanges, many of the parts of the character are controlled by physics (the antennae and tails for instance) so I cant really add too many "limbs" or I risk killing peoples devices just to dynamically animate them, because of that simple shapes are my go to.
Ill attempt to continue to redraw it but I'm not sure I can change the style enough for people to not see a resemblance.
