So I think I know what you mean. The thing is when you draw with very smooth lines it tends to give off a feeling of such.
An easy way to give off the identity of something being "no right" or "Scary" is by making your line work be rough.
Smoothness by default tends to invoke a soft sort of emotion.

Like Jeff here. I had never drawn enything scary before him. I simply took my brushes, blew them up, and scribbled a general shape rather than attempting to make a smooth work.

TFTGS is short for "Tales From The Gas Station"
It STARTED as a one shot creepypasta that was kinda in itself making fun of the entire genre, its like creepypasta satire and the longer it goes on it just becomes the whole genre of "horror satire", it makes jokes and references to the way horror stories and characters are written, flips it on its head and says lets make this the punchline of a joke

it caught on evidently, got real popular in that community because of the way its written and now it has 4 books 2 novellas and is still going to this day with a sequel series, and half of it is just free to read online (and fully narrated)
if you want to ask about the story though the SIMPLEST way I can put it is "Most jaded cashier in the world needs to deal with the every horror under the sun and he doesnt care, hes just trying to do his job."
