Hi, welcome to week 2! Thank you all for participating in last week's discussion. This time, we would like to know about how your music taste has evolved over the years and how you came to where you are now. Please, remember that music taste is subjective and be respectful and polite to each other. Thank you!
sorry panna wghujw i was slow
i am so proud of myself cause music has been so important to me since forever but in the last 1 year i just started to be so open to everything and i listen to so many new things weekly and my music taste is just so diverse i like so many different things and i love it so much omg i love music so much
i love that so much! i think i kind of had a similar thing happened to me a few years ago when i suddenly started discovering new stuff and just expanded my taste a lot
for me it was this server tbh that really started to expand my taste
cause when in april i started spending so many time here i saw so many people listening to so many different things all day and i became interested cause when i love people i wanna know what music they like oh and also #album-of-the-week-volume-one and lurking what music is playing in staff's status lol
i hate that im so cheesy but im so glad i became an active member of this server cause i met so many amazing people and so many amazing artists and aaaa literally music is my whole life i cant imagine not listening to all these amazing musicians
Um it hasn't really changed at all. I really only like Top
im so freaking basic in my music selection
i used to only listen to top. now i cant imagine only listening to one or two bands. like whoahh. i listen to so many different things, months go by without listening to something i really love just cause there are so many other artists i listen to, i only get back to one after weeks or months lol
As a kid I would usually have obsession with one singer who would be the only person I listened to, I went from Katy Perry to Nicki Minaj and Eminem to Imagine Dragons. After that I kind of started listening to more stuff including twenty one pilots, but it wasn't until 2018ish that I actually started trying more stuff. It was my fourth year of highschool and I was taking a pop culture class and when my teacher saw me listening to Cold War Kids, he said that I needed some help whjnwjkmw And from then, he started recommending me new music, he actually called it Album of the week as well! Every sunday he would send me a new album to try and exposed me to a pretty wide variety of new stuff which was really interesting to me. Around that time I also joined this server and got exposed to a slightly different variety of genres. I also started talking to poot and like every dumb teenager who has a crush on someone, I tried listening to his music and absolutely hated it whbnjwk But after talking to him for a few months, I went from being scared of songs that had screaming or sounded "heavier" to loving it.
So I guess in the past 3 years, my music taste expanded so much and I now enjoy (or in some cases at least tolerate) a lot more things. I find it pretty funny how much has changed, which is also what inspired this question.
it went from listening to pop on the radio as a little kid to listening to nothing but TOP. then i started to expand my boundaries a little and listen to a little more, but as anxiety resurfaces i find it hard to listen to anything other than TOP again, so here we are
Also, an important part of this for me was to stop being scared of people judging me or making fun of me for what i listen to and i'm really happy i now don't listen to things to have people like me, but i do it for my own enjoyment
im the same in this, im always so curious about what music people like when i start getting to know them
For me, I heard a lot of common radio music. I heard tons of pop that was all in my face, and I enjoyed it as thats all that I knew. I was recommended a radio station by my friend who is interested in alternative music. I started to listen to them, and I realized that it was much better much of the same music that is looped every 2 hours. It was refreshing, and I haven't been a huge fan of pop since. I've been a huge alternative rock person, starting with twenty one pilots.
imo music is such a scary artform, it sometimes gives me anxiety to think about it, cause time cant be stopped and if you are listening to music, time is just passing. and we are mortal so we dont have infinite time. so i want to listen to as many different artists and albums as much i can. imagine how millions of artists exist and maybe you would absolutely enjoy one but you never get there cause you just dont want to try new things. and i love how the internet lets all the tiny artists share their music and lets the listeners explore literally anything from anywhere. and sometimes i have anxiety about music cause im just staring at my ceiling and thinking about 10 songs i want to listen at the same time and i cant choose so i just stay in silence 😭 omg now im talking about random nonsense. so. what i tried to express is that its crazy that basically infinite minutes of music exists and we only get to explore a tiny fragment of it in our whole lives. and its basically us who decides how many new things we wanna try. ok i completely lost my thoughts. sorry if i just gave anxiety to someone 😭 i suffer with this so often
but omg music really is my life and its an incredible artform and i love i love i love it so much and i get so emotional so easily cause idk i just love it. it helped me getting through so many things. theres an album for every emotion, every mood, everything. and also seeing my friends say how much they love music makes me so happy too
and look at this server, we/i found so many friends cause of music, similar music taste. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
ok i stop here sorry for textwall 😭
very true panna thank you for sharing so thoughtfully
tbh it hasn't changed much at all over the years. i've found new artists and stuff, but genre wise its been like this for a bit.
i've been a big fan of jazz and old 60s vibes—bill evans—since maybe elementary school, but other than that it's your typical alternative pop stuff. with the occasional funky swag soul/hip hop/jazz/funk mix of jon batiste. and ofc slow emo folk inspired stuff from phoebe bridgers. her voice is just so beautiful and soft. also clairo's new album is such a big step for her as an artist and is leagues more mature than her previous stuff. and its cool to see how it isn't cookie cutter stuff anymore.
john mayer is also such a diverse artist. that man has country, pop, blues, rock, folk, funk, literally everything in his discography. so its great to go through different seasons with him every once in a while and rediscover all that he has to offer.
i'm a pretty big kendrick lamar fan too, so when he drops his next record it'll for sure be in here.
used to like emo music, then it evolved to mainstream rap, then more into emo rap, then rock, eventually i just became diverse with my music taste, but i like rap more
i wish i knew more about genres. cause i literally dont. its so hard to label stuff. for example the last 2 or 3 aotws i was like yeah i love this i listen to stuff exactly like this i just have no idea what genre is it ?? 😭
i don't think genres are super important honestly
a lot of the times they can be superficial and not really mean anything
especially since so much of music crosses into different categories
yeah but explaining stuff is easier with them 😭 just like i dont like labels on myself either but i had to be like hi im ace to find other ace people and feel like im not alone jishishdgjihsdigh
as a kid i was super into classic rock and glam metal, then i got into punk and emo as well, then i slowly got into rap and out of most classic rock
up until i was like 10 i just listened to whatever shit my dad listened to which was a lot of rock, punk, and reggae, then from like 11-13 i exclusively listened to fuckin patd, top, fob and stuff, and from 14 to now it’s just been kinda a mess, i don’t rlly know what genre anything i listen to is but i do know i looove shoegaze, slowcore, and dream pop stuff
ig my main point is for most phases of my life i’ve listened to a very limited amount of artists at a time, but now i listen to a bunch of shit across a ton of genres
um so i liked TØP for a bit, then i kinda went off them and wanted something to listen to, i couldn’t find anything so i went through a pop phase (i’m super annoyed at myself for that) i was listening to shit pop music for like a year, then i got back into TØP and listened to the albums i hadn’t listened to, and recently i’ve been listening to fall out boy a bit more, i think this part of my music life is where i’m staying for a bit
idk i feel like it’s the same
def isn’t but i can’t process gradual change over long periods of time
Since I was like 10 I would listen to mainstream music but eventually I got bored and wanted something new. I started exploring other genres like indie/classic rock and other stuff like that. For a few years after that i didn’t really have a music taste of my own because i didn’t really care about music, but as I grew older I discovered some pretty cool bands like tøp that changed my life. I mostly listen to those artists now but I am open to (almost) every genre and I enjoy diving into new styles and music. Also, since I’m a classical musician for the past 3-4 years I’ve been listening to a lot of classical music (especially from the romantic era) which I find more intriguing than other stuff I listen to.
for a while i didnt listen to music at all ,, then when i started to it was really just what was popular. then i went thru an indie/pop phase for a while ,, and then alternative ,, then some (not a lot) of hip hop/rap and then i shifted a lot more to what i listen to now. i started listening to more rock/punk/grunge ,, and now i listen to a lot of shoegaze and rock ,,
my music taste has changed a lot ! and i think it's really beautfiful that it will continue to change and that many songs remind you of a moment in your life ♥️ this is very powerful
as a kid i didn't listen to music very often (a nostalgic thought for my very first mp3 and later my super cute ipod nano that i sadly lost) and everytime i was able to discover a new type of music it was very exciting ! i guess i used to listen to pop and rock mainly
and now it's everything literally i love it all and my spotify is lost
basically i learned that when i don't like a style of music it's because i don't know how to appreciate it (doesn't mean i like every song nor every artists 💀 )
I still love what I used to love but I’m into more pop now
its changed a lot DJDNKDK
when i was younger, being raised in the south, i listened to a lot of country.
then as i got older, i started listening to more pop music. kinda like rap, pop, whatever you’d hear on the top hits station.
then my friend showed me some musicals so i listened to that for a while.
then when i got introduced to twenty one pilots, my taste shifted to more rock/emo? i guess
then, around quarantine, my parents introduced me to older songs from the 80s/90s and so i started listening to more of that.
then, i started getting into like disney songs due to my baby cousins & my niece
now, i listen to a mix of a lot of things. indie, pop, rock, disney, broadway, whatever comes on (except for some genres).
Not a ton actually. when i was younger however, i was in to more super super poppy stuff. Pop is still my fav genre, just not the more cheesy, over poppy stuff anymore. i still listen to most every single genre, so in terms of that no!
It has changed way too much for me. When I was in middle school and in high school I listened to bands such as Green Day and Blink 182 (90s punk pop) and showtunes. Now I'm someone who goes from Mumford and Sons, to queen, to Taylor Swift, Cavetown, The 1975, Weezer, and of course Twenty One Pilots. To be honest, I jump from genre to genre. Its not Just two types of music and is now instead different.
my music taste is the same from when i was a young child to now
the twenty one pilots to lovejoy pipeline is real i promise just give me a sec /j
It's changed alot. I used to listen to alot of country because that's what my Mom listened too. Then I started getting into pop and eventually Twenty Øne Piløts. Once my music taste opened up more I started liking my Dad's music (80s - 90 Alternative) and started liking country less. I'd find more and more songs that I like over a range of styles and now I listen to whatever interest me, which sometimes can be surprising even to me
i went from folk songs to movie soundtracks to anime music to pop punk to electro swing to indie pop and rock to avant-garde jazz style stuff to symphonic death metal and dark americana
I feel like growing up I went through different phases of music-- mainstream pop in middle school, alt/rock in early high school, mainstream rap in late high school, then rock/indie rock/emo rap phases in college
and now i kind of just listen to all of them
Yea but like sometimes i just listen to new music and just never want to listen to it again
I used to listen to a lot of EDM type stuff in high school. I still listen to some of that stuff but I’ve gotten a lot more into indie rock and pop music as I’ve moved into college
absolutely. Pretty much since TOP my taste in what I like is sooo different. I used to hate all screaming/rock type
twenty one pilots to dayglow pipeline is a lot cooler tbh
twenty one pilots to dayglow pipeline [REAL]
it changed for a long time and quarantine threw me back into the emo pop punk pipeline 😩
i used to only listen to like billboard top 200 songs then i discovered fall out boy. took me down that whole rabbit hole. i became enamored with the idea of emo and found what emo music truly was as opposed to the way ppl think it is. from there i just branched out into whatever i felt like. jazz however stuck to me and it’s still my favorite
based alert
I’ve been mostly the same since high school?? Idk
Middle school I listened to a lot of dubstep, and then like 8th grace started into rock more (Linkin park, breaking Benjamin, three days grace, etc)
9th grade I started getting closer to metal, but towards the middle of that school year, I started listening to tøp. At the same time tho, I was moving more into death metal and stuff.
Later in I feel like it settled more into like post-hardcore, metalcore, “emo” (MCR). Kinda stayed there for a bit.
Out of high school, I kinda varied between genres depending on what I was feeling. I’ve definitely branched out more in the past year or so, but idk really what else to describe it as
Just look at my last.fm or something lol
this server directly changed my music taste LOL i listened to a very very small amount of artists until this server made me listen to car seat headrest literally it was all downhill from there directly. whole fucking rabbit hole
Ok furry
look at your bio
No
I used to be such a bitch about the music I listen to. Like not sharing my playlist so that no one finds out the super secret artists I'm listening to, like Taylor Swift. But now ever since I have been more active in a community full of music enjoyers, I have been way more open about what I listen to and what music I check out. From listening to wayyy more artists to being excited to share who I'm listening to. I feel like I have also come over some of the misogyny I had along the way? Like I won't publicly accept to listening to the music or musicians that are deemed as "only for girls"
Even though I enjoyed their music
Now I kinda just don't care plus it helps that all my friends have great taste. I went from only whatever is on the TV pop, to rock and emo and now whatever the heck I feel like on a given day
i used to listen to 21 pilots and then the motherfuckers in this server ruined me
sorry “expanded my taste”
sakldjlsakdlaj
I can understand. Some people in this server are wack
I used to only listen to twenty one pilots but I took inspiration from Josh’s taste in music and I started to fall in love with pop punk like blink-182 and sum-41, which really lead me into being a “pop punk enthusiast”. I started to love the new pop punk stuff that has been coming out like MGK’s Tickets To My Downfall album and KennyHoopla’s Survivors Guilt mixtape. Then out of nowhere I just suddenly started loving the sound of acoustic guitar so I stumbled upon Goody Grace. He makes a lot of Bob Dylan type sounding songs as well as some pop punk and rap. (Good rap lol)
Don’t pay attention to the run-on sentences. I’m careless when it comes to punctuation
I started listening to Michael Jackson and listened to exclusively him from 6th to 8th, then I found top, that was a big rest. That little success with a new artist I had found led me to find punk rock, which I felt very safe in, green day was my no. 1 artist. Then I dipped into emo, all this while hating pop for how repetitive it was. The next few years was just old school rock(led zep, Black Sabbath, etc) and top. then I found the strokes, cleopatrick and people still keeping music alive for itself and not for its monetary profits. I discovered that I really like finding new artists and bringing them up. So now I do that. also thanks to @vipin @acoe @allison and so many other people on this server I keep finding new artists which is just lovely.
I mean when I was 3 I was apparently in love with Rihanna so. It’s changed but it’s mostly been the same except for one year I had a strange Melanie Martinez phase.
LOL
LOLLLL
thank you andrew
I guess it has because back in like 2014 I used to listen to One Direction and stuff but now I listen to rock and rock subgenres. Even in the past couple months my music taste has expanded. In about 2018(?) I became an "ewwww pop music sucks >:(" person but now some of the music I like (mainly soundtracks from tv shows) would be classed as pop
i finally accepted that i am a pop bitch and i’m not ashamed of it anymore. fuck people stigmatising genres.
so true pop bitch
i listen to anything, except country.
fuck country.
kidding you can like country if you want, i just don’t enjoy it
yeehaw

yee yee
I mean kinda? Ill listen to other things that arent top but i primarily listen to top
from kinda just top to when i actually started getting into a ton of music
more and more into hiphop and a little bit of rock
and i had a small indie phase but that didnt last too long
my favourite artists atm are tyler the creator kendrick lamar kanye and death grips
i also get video game/classical music phases from time to time
from game stuff its usually undertale/deltarune soundtrack
minecraft mother series cuphead and that stuff
and from classical stuff its mostly rachmaninoff liszt and chopin
very cool
my taste in music progresses with my mental illness, that’s why i’m a swiftie
when i was younger i mostly just listened to classical music cause that’s what my family listened to, plus simon and garfunkel, enye, and yes, and other things that that my parents listened to. then i started listening to more pop, disney, and musical theatre broadway stuff. last year i got in tiktok and started listening to different types of music, then this year is when i started paramore, and gradually added top, and then a bunch of different bands
🤨🤨🤨
As a child I listened to random pop songs on the radio. After I got into top I explored classic rock, older metal songs and some other rock genres, then listened to metal, then a bit of indie and then straight back to Metal. Now I'm just listening to all of these genres at the same time.
god theres so much music out there it makes me terrified to think I’ll never hear enough
exactly
thats kinda what i talked about here
yeah sometimes it just makes me feel like I’m wasting time when I listen to the same thing over and over
right ?????
but also i WANT to listen to the same thing over and over and pay all my attention to it cause i WANT to deeply get to know the song, all the layers, every little sound
at least i listen to aotw sometimes
It went from pop to alt rock to trap to all of those + classical, lofi, metal, dark trap, hardstyle, rawstyle, frenchcore, hardcore, edm, h e a v y bass, etc and the only thing I don't like is the soft pop that's recently become popular
lord it has changed so much
went from what was considered "the holy emo quartet" back in 2017-2018 and all that to now like
lana del rey especially but also panna's music a lot
hi
good!
i don't know ¯_(ツ)_/¯
the major change for me was that i used to listen to less music and now I listen to more music and different artists
i went from radio pop, to "emo quartet", to emo rap, to screamo/hardcore, to lo-fi, to midwest emo, to psychedelic rock, to rap-metal, to feel-good pop, and currently to electro rock. and through it all, tøp/mcr have stuck with me lol. and i still listen to some of everything i mentioned
dude unrelated but i cry everytime i see you and look at your pfp 😭 😭 😭
i was just thinking about this actually
cause when i got into music last year it was all bedroom pop
and then twenty one pilots
and then like other rock bands
and now i’m circling back to that softer sound
like indie rock n shit
indie shit is based
Oh god yeah
I had a phase where I was very UwU soft I'm not emo
Then it reverted back to me being an emo punk
@halcyon mesa
when i was young i got in to the 2000s pop somehow i hated it for couple of yrs but didnt got in to fandoms, later around 2019 i rlly got in to Bruno Mars, the start of the pandemic gave me more time to focus on music so i searched up panic! and tøp and now im neck deep in the alternative genre

started with radio music and pop, then i got into 80s and 90s rock through my mom, ditched the 80s, kept the 90s, got into top last year the way i explained in the last qotw, top opened my eyes to alternative rock, i started getting particularly into scene music/00s rock this year. besides that i listen to some rap (mostly post malone's fault, im really into kanye rn) and some indie (i think that started with girl in red? not sure) ye thats it
oh also thanks to tyler im majorly into death cab now
basically just random artists on the radio then in 2014/2015 i started listening to tøp.
yeah my story isn't that long
I used to not be very into music but I think I’ve gotten into a lot of genres. Except country, country sucks :P
bannable
I grew up in the scene because of my mom but in 2012/2013 I started exploring the alt scene more on my own
Started with your emo trinity
Found tøp in 2014
Rediscovered The Academy Is..., Motion City Soundtrack, Cartel and others around 2012/2013
I got super into Neck Deep in 2016
But I grew up between my mom listening to pop punk and 80s hair metal and my grandma listening to classic country
Pls do
alright i’ll do mine and some of the stuff i’ve said will make sense
this sounds fun
i lived off of a steady diet of radio country, my dad’s alternative rock (the killers, smashing pumpkins, coldplay), and my mom’s pop stuff (rihanna, beyoncé, maroon 5) until middle school. then i found this band, Panic!, and fall out boy and took a nosedive into that scene. I’ve still always maintained a love for country music though, even though it’s transitioned from pop and radio country to more alternative/red dirt/texas country stuff. that’s why when people bash country, i’m there on defense because there’s good country out there still and it’s sentimental to me too. i’ve also gone from hating any and all rap to having some of my favorite current artists be rappers.

oh i also had a big boomer rock moment my sophomore year of high school but we won’t talk about that
i think we all went through that, i dont judge you
but like an actual country fan, thats rare
well in that case
i went from being forced to listen to jimmy buffet as a child to a variety of bands and artists from different genres. not that i didn’t like jimmy buffet, that’s just all my parents played
hi panna
thanks for listening to my music uwu
I used to only listen to whatever was popular on the radio and now I listen to alternative rock, pop punk, indie, and lots more in that range
now that i think about it it hasn’t evolved that much. i grew up surrounded by classic and alternative rock, but if i ever listened to music on my own time it usually ended up being the mainstream pop stuff (and not all of its bad ofc). a couple years ago i started listened to specific artists and now i listen to mostly classic, alternative, and indie rock on my own time
plus whatever genre you wanna call tøp of course
oh, you got into tøp through paramore also 😄 hi five
paramore slapssss
my journey started when mobilephones with infrared were a thing. (Infrared was like Bluetooth but way worse 😄). So I would listen basically anything I was sent via IR. It was mostly some mainstream radio music and also often not very good.
I was also little bit influenced by my older siblings, most notably reggae/Marley influence. And also Michael Jackson (ironically after his death).
But in the end of middle school I started to develope kind of my own music preference. I liked Green Day very much... and was kinda into dubstep (but that was the thing at that time).
At some point I started to have specific phases of some certain artist. First one I think was Switchfoot, then at the very end of middle school I found Paramore (cause we covered That's What You Get and crushcrushcrush) and listen to it a lot over the years. At one point I randomly discovered Of Monsters And Men and their phase began. And final one was TØP. TØP obsession grew even larger because of my girlfriend who started to listen it and dragged me deeper into the rabbit hole.
As you can see, most of it is rock and that's genre dearest to my heart. I grew up as a christian, so I've always listened to christian music also and that has kinda influenced my kinda soft-rock/alternative rock genre taste.
Honorable mentions would be my homecountry bands Ewert and The Two Dragons and smaller Frankie Animal.
Oh that became long 😮
yup:)
HUH
Listen to the magnolia electric co by songs ohia
First it was just tøp, then it was adding hyper pop, edm, and Japanese edm to the mix, next I listened to a lot of rap, specifically a lot of xxx, lil pump unironically, and some others. After that I started exploring more indie/alt rock, and now I enjoy metal and post hardcore and some indie a lot. And a lil bit of pixie
I wish Spotify had like an ex playlist thing where you can see every past song in your self made playlists so I can see the old songs I moved from
It started from classical music (strange, I know) and evolved into songs that I heard on the radio. My family has gone on lots of road trips and I usually draw so I always had my sketchbook to write down songs and artists I liked from the radio, mainly Imagine Dragons and TØP. Later my emo friend introduced me to more emo music and I started listening to MCR, PTV, FIR, things like that but I’ve always stuck with TØP. Now I’m into the same emo music as my friend but I also include pop songs I enjoy from the 2010s, classical music, rock, metal, indie, alt, and mainly ukulele rap boy and josh on da drooms. My music taste is a mess but it’s a lovely mess
there's the time capsule playlist or sth
Yeah for me it’s always just given stuff it thinks I would like
mine shows all the stuff I liked a year or two back
Mine is like half stuff in my playlist now and then 2 I used to listen to
The rest is old panic songs and I don’t even listen to them
Yes very. I started listening to skrillex and then moved into random songs like "Eye of the Tiger" and "We are Young". Then after 6th grade I found my calling in 5FDP and AJR. Till then I only heard a couple songs by top like SO and HDS. Then a friend introduced me to top and then it became lots of top and 5FDP
when i was in 6th grade my brother showed me The Prodigy (their 90s output) and from there I discovered all of the different genres in 90s electronic, mainly from the British rave scene
uk jungle, early drum n bass (93-97 ish), breakbeat hardcore
being from Minnesota and not anywhere near the UK it was kind of weird and no one else i knew listened to that stuff
then i discovered Aphex Twin and kind of went down that rabbit hole of IDM and drill n bass
twenty one pilots is kind of an outlier in my music taste because i am not the biggest fan of modern "alt pop" music (AJR, Imagine Dragons, etc) but i got into the band because my friend really liked them in 7th-8th grade and also got into the remaking circle over at WrightP
five years later i barely listen to them anymore but im still a part of the community i guess lol
my top artists over the past year or so have been Animal Collective, Beach House, Squarepusher, Burial, Mac Demarco, LCD Soundsystem, Prince, Oneohtrix Point Never
write pee
somehow I got from top to harry styles to bts
Used to rly be into dubstep/electronics but now im into alot of alt rock and punk
i think my music taste has gotten softer?
I don’t really like listening to the radio but I used to when I was younger. Living in Atlanta, in my personal opinion, we don’t have a lot of good music stations. We used to have 2 alternative stations. One of them turned into a country station and the other one Spanish. That’s when I stopped listening to the radio all together. But anyway I remember first hearing the song Youngblood by The Naked and Famous and thinking how great they sounded. I started listening to music a lot more like it and I realized how much I was missing. I like to think I have pretty good music taste, but I’m just biased haha
in elementary school i loved boy bands so like big time rush and one direction. in sixth grade i was OBSESSED with edm and i thought i was the coolest mother fucker on the planet for listening to it. in 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th i listened to a lot of alt rock music so top, fall out boy, panic at the disco, halsey, melanie martinez, the neighbourhood, the maine, so basically tumblr 2014 i guess. but then in 11th and 12th i started listening to more indie and japanese music bc yeah im so cool /s. but yeah now im a freshman in college and i like only exclusively listen to indie music now.
i went from softie to emo to top to idk now 😋
My taste in music has always been all over the place. I'm a big metal and (also 70's-00's) rock fan but I also like some pop music, rap, alternative and a bit of dance music for example
yes
I really cannot read this without saying "My taste in music is yo face" in my head
it rhymes too
lmfao oh right! I love that
I'd just listen to soundtracks from movies and games and stuff, then I started adding random stuff to my playlist that sounded nice (mainly older songs), the weeknd because my friend likes him, then tøp, and now I'm getting into mcr because I'm cool (
)
I've always liked rap. But lofi, songs with traditional elements from my country and edm have really been on my playlist recently.
Yo Minnesota gang
my music taste changed sooo many times
from pop radio music, to emo music that my older siblings play, to hard EDM/dubstep phase, then back to emo pop punk music, then video game OSTs, then a bit of pop hip-hop, then here I am back to square one-ish with a bit of everything
(dear god, i'm so sorry for this really long answer)
-+-+-+-+-+-
When I was younger, the only music I could listen to were from CDs, the radio, or music videos on TV (didn't have internet then). In general though, my genres were either country, pop, or classic rock.
[Music Artist(s): Taylor Swift, Kids Bop, etc.]
-+-+-+-+-+-
As I moved houses and started going to middle school, I really started to branch my music taste out more. I started to discover a whole plethora of songs for and/or from video games, youtubers, stuff like that.
[Music Artist(s): Basically just about anyone who made songs for FNaF/Undertale]
-+-+-+-+-+-
Once I got to high school, I started to find bands and artists I could enjoy more than the rest. At this point, I could listen to just about any genre and vibe.
[Music Artist(s): TØP, MCR, FOB, P!ATD, etc.]

Now that I had graduated high school, I've come with the conclusion that any kind of rock music is my go-to. I've been finding a lot more bands/artists throughout these few months, and I'm sure there's more out there. For now though, I shall keep looking!
[Music Artist(s): The Gentle Men, The Disaster Area, Starset, The Veer Union, etc.]

(TL;DR - Country, Pop, Classic rock > Video Game/Youtuber Stuff > Any Genre > Any Kind of Rock)
When I was a kid all my mum used to play was classical music so when I got to school ppl would make fun of me for not knowing lady gaga lmao (valid tbh) but yeah I don’t think I really developed any sort of music sense until high school which was obvs emo and a bit of British indie. Now it’s just a lot more diffused across different genres but I still have the same habits of only listening to a few artists constantly rather than a experiencing a ton of new stuff. Ideally I’d like to listen to more new stuff but I’m such a creature of habit ig and on some level I like appreciating a few artists more thoroughly than a lot superficially
I feel like im the only person here who started listening to classical music by himself LOL 😭
idk if this format is conducive to conversation at all but here are the bases I've covered:
*classical/instrumentals as a younger kid (no words)
*hip hop/pop (radio stuff) and nu metal as an older kid
*dubstep and boy band stuff as a tween (1D and anything that sounded similar)
*pop punk and alternative as an early teen (still enjoy)
*explored metal/noise/industrial/experimental/lyrical as a late teen
*metalcore and rap introduced and hip hop returns as adult
*exploring hyperpop now
generally i've always appreciated electronic though, at least on the side
I got into western classical through movie soundtracks Hans Zimmer, silvestri etc
more variety in the sense that I care less about things musically when it comes to genre except things like country a lot of hip rap and rnb has entered my life as well and albums like good kid maad city and igor have affected me a lot personally more that come to mind are artists like saba
I can interchange through many genres in the same day as well one hour I could be listening to tpab by kendrick lamar then the next hour I could be listening to black sabbath or queen or tyler the creator or even top it's all about how you feel with the music not how others feel about you listening to it
I use to like country but I hate it now. , I like rock and alternative and ofc I really only listen to remix’s and tøp
I was really into boy bands as a kid and then one of those bands had a show on TV showing their influences growing up. From there I fell down the pop punk rabbit hole and apart from the odd indie band, that’s where I’ve stayed 😂
My dad was a percussionist and loved all kinds of music so I’ve been into all kinds of bands since I was a kid. Music is great. My dad would have loved Josh and his drumming style. My dad was also self taught. Soundtrack of my life will never end.
My parents only listened to country music when I was young so it used to be that
Then I started only listening to videogame OSTs
Then I got into twenty one pilots
And now I have an anime music addiction
I skipped a lot but this is pretty much it
I hate country now btw
Like I do with most things my family likes
