(lover is the first album since that) he has since sold them but still gets money from it. this is why she is re recording the albums so she can own the masters and devalue to originals”

publishing rights is the right to the actual written piece of music, he could technically re record it but he can’t release the already recorded songs without the permission of whoever owns the masters

going back to the taylor swift comparison, she ALWAYS had the publishing rights but never had the masters. she has no control over her previously recorded tracks, she can only re record.
