#Who are The Watchers?

I've been digging deep into the DEMA lore and DEMAorg website the past few days, thanks to the incredible people who have archived, and I kept coming back to the WAKE UP letter on the website from 2018. It is the first time we hear about smearing, the Bishops gathering in one place, and that there was a BREACH from somewhere else. Specifically the word Breach used for the first time in relation to the lore.

The other big concept rarely touched again by name, is THE WATCHERS. Not citizens of DEMA, not Banditos, the Glorious Gone, NEDs, or those from other places like Voldsoy, but a different entity entirely. I believe they're the dark, terrifying figures we see in The Contract video. Their Glowing Eyes are so purposeful and significant. Purposefully designed characters like that continue to show up over and over again in the lore. Their eyes, in red and yellow are also seen in the Livestream Experience, various tour backgrounds, and all of the BREACH promotional materials we've seen so far. This is not the last time we've seen The Watchers, and i believe they signify a barrier between the mind and subconscious, the real and the imagined, the inside and The Outside, the awake and the land of dreams.

I don't have anything to do add atp but this is def smth to keep an eye on, good thought that I haven't seen noticed before
The necromancer in the contract could also be one of the watchers, pointing to a whole additional class of magic in trench

In The Contract MV, Clancy barely looks around at the figures and almost just accepts them which makes it seem like it might not be his first time there

#

I think that supports your theory and also suggests that these watchers might be there during every smearing, which would be super interesting

I like what you’re cooking

I instantly thought of the song Glowing Eyes when I first saw the Contract mv as well.

I was under the impression that the watchers are the vultures. We see in Paladin Strait MV that the Bishops seize the vultures in order to use their eyes to spy on citizens and banditos. Clancy would have to get past the vultures in order to escape unnoticed, but instead decides to attract their attention. It's interesting that in Nico and the Niners MV, which is what the letter is talking about, we see the Bishops notice what's happening because Josh's drums are shaking the city. I assume in the actual lore Clancy and Torchbearer wouldn't actually start playing music, so it would make sense that it would be the vultures that actually notice them.

we also know from the FPE letters that dema has guards (people) who are assigned to certain parts around the city to watch the citizens, so i always thought the watchers = the guards

#

i think they’ve only ever referred to vultures as vultures or as death eaters (dmaorg), and tyler’s said “trash dragon” is slang for vulture too

#

since the citizens (and clancy) wasn’t aware that the bishops could even seize anybody until he himself got the seizing ability (and when he informed the citizens during Overcompensate), i feel like the citizens wouldn’t necessarily have reason to assume the vultures are watching them at that point—unless the bishops let them know they were seizing them for surveillance??? but i don’t think they would let something like that slip. it seems more likely they would want the citizens to continue operating like “normal” so they wouldn’t change their behavior if they ended up seeing a vulture out and about. the banditos might’ve caught on eventually, but we saw the vultures in their camp in Levitate, and that led to clancy’s recapture

#

but i believe all the glowing eyes in this video is supposed to be playing into the whole “all eyes on breach” thing the band’s got going on right now. and since the video itself was meant to be a tour recap, the glowing eyes are meant to show the audience/everybody watching clancy. and clancy’s going through his doubts and insecurities right now, so he’s hyperaware due to that. he doesn’t want to let anybody down but he’s also trying to do what he believes is right, and you can’t really please everybody when you do that. it’s a hard balance for him

Oh, so like No Chances.

“We see when you arrive, surveillance is outside.” Think that song could have something to do with it?
