the production of a lot of their stuff from 2015 and earlier (blurryface, vessel, etc.) is relatively poorly done IMHO, though it got better w each album; i know this is a Very controversial opinion but it sounds too cluttered and busy and distracts from the songs beneath the production. it works in the live setting b/c there's so many different things to focus on, but as studio albums, so many are messy. hometown, to me, has the perfect production where it highlights the song's strong points and keeps an element of "tøpness" (weirdness/not classically arranged songs). i wouldn't necessarily say that for other songs on blurryface even though i love them
