I think trench torchbearer has the ability to manifest a guiding spirit for people, hence Tyler's companion

"Josh isn't real" is kinda an inside joke in the clique that references the infamous Forest fic. It isn't in any letters or lore

Maybe he could be. Since The SAI Livestream experience is apart of the lore. It could explain why Josh Dun/Torchbearer was casually playing the drums in those set pieces/Propaganda pieces and the seized Bishops could've took out Josh

since they were mockingly saying stuff on taunting for Josh to come out

thinking about josh not being there and rewatching some music videos and lore things makes some things funny and make sense

Livestream Experience:
the seized or possesed bodies that the Bishops took over and are calling out Josh/Torchebearer for being an idiot and Josh being in the livestream and the bishops haven't taken him out

Saturday music video:
Josh casually playing drums to those fake bishops and he isn't there. And him playing the drums in the submarine must've been some drummer instead

The outside music video:
Clancy is mostly by himself when finding the Ned's and just guided

Overcompensate music video:
it was mostly clancy there in the meeting for the rebel group in Dema and it wouldn't have make sense if there was loud drums played out in a secret meeting in that auditorium
