Also I think Ruby is especially meaningful to me because of what it’s about. Tyler wrote it about a little girl from his church who has Down Syndrome, and describes her as an angel who has the answers to life and all of society’s problems. My older brother has Down Syndrome, and I’ve always looked up to him for being like a pure soul, someone who has surpassed all the world’s problems and lives simply and happily. No matter what I or my family is dealing with, I can always turn to my brother and try to relate to his smile and laughter. It’s the same way Tyler describes Ruby in the song, and I guess just seeing that genuine understanding and representation of this special population has always sat close to my heart.
