As someone who is Jewish I can understand the references to god but I still choose to apply those references to my own personal struggles rather than connecting them to god in my mind. Ultimately regardless I think the core theme of this story is mental health rather than religious or anything of that sort but that’s just me so 🤷🏻‍♂️

Clancy is essentially about gathering the tools in which to fight your inner battles. He feels like he might fall into old ways and crashout. He turns to relationships, God, his home and in Paladin it really feels to me that it’s his last ditch attempt to power through and like, god are you gonna be there on the shoreline for me?

But yeah open to interpretation I am an atheist as well.

The reason why I don’t think this story is about how religion can help someone through mental health as I’ve seen some people theorize is because some people don’t use religion like that. It’s fine if religion gives you a purpose and helps you through tough times that’s totally cool. Yeah, very much this. I do think that people occasionally over-do it with the religious allegories in reference to the storyline. I still don't think Torchbearer is necessarily meant to represent God. I think he can, but I don't know if that really what he means to Tyler. I think Tyler definitely is still a spiritual person, I mean he did thank God in the "Thank You" section of Clancy. But Josh didn't, so idk about him. I doubt Tyler is as devout as he once was back when he wrote NPI and self-titled. Or even Vessel. He's pretty much said so himself.

Well the stole honestly makes more sense as a sort of graduation stole tbh. Next Semester kinda made that clear imo. To me, it represents prevailing against those anxieties and fears that prevent you from trying things. The fear of being in a new place, mentioned in Jumpsuit and Next Semester. the could be a physical new place or even a mental/spiritual one. But having the stole on symbolizes that you've pushed on through despite those fears.

Like yeah, obviously there are religious connotations to almost everything they do, but I don't think they ever intended for there to be one true interpretation that's like the "correct" one or the "real" one. It's designed very carefully to be viewed by people of all different beliefs and ages and mental spaces. It's not "crazy" to view the story through the lens of my own life experiences rather than someone elses... I can't know what he sees in the story and I'm not going to pretend to. I've never been him, I've only ever been me, and I know what I see.

How long is so long? Most of Trench was religious, at times explicitly. Just look at the lyrics of Morph for example.

Scaled and Icy is a detour in all senses...

But with Clancy there are once again religious themes, even if not as heavy as Trench's. Backslide is all but confirmed to be about God and other songs reference Tyler's faith in more subtle ways.

if its legit, it's about this time that songs would start to be registered and sent out for stuff like commericals, movie or television trailers, soundtracks, a whole lot of stuff. Tally may have been picked for something. at that point, its being passed around so much that all it takes is one person to recognize the voice or file name or artist
