It's possible that it wasn't quite a draft version of Overcompensate, at least in the way one might think. He may have had completely different music for those lyrics which he was trying to work on first, but it wasn't clicking, so he repurposed them for Overcompensate and Backslide

In which case, the original music idea may still exist and be substantial enough that he could just use the unused parts and then write new lyrics for the rest
