Im afraid of singing

Well brother. As a person who has sung for around 1500 people, there are quite a lot of things i can recommend you.

#

The first would be to stablish what is your main goal for singing, for example, the same attitude is not required for a cover than a version or an own song.

#

depending of what you do, the road can be easier or harder

#

let's place all the examples i've in mind

#
  1. **If you're a good cover boy but you have never tried to sing along **(you understand what i mean) or you think you suck at it: I think this is the worst of the cases, but it isn't as hard as you could figure.
The greatest problem here is that you can replicate other one's voices, but you can't find your own one. This is one of the hardest. there are a lot of tutorials of how to find your own voice, but don't worry, it's just a matter of research and practice, and you'll get over that
#
  1. If you are both good at covers and own voice, but you are so afraid to sing in public.
Well, I think the best option is to expose to the fear, and ignore the criticizing people (if they appear). Also, here, you may discover that you're own voice (the one you had to work for or the one you got naturally if you're lucky) isn't the right one. the voice which you use when you're calm there at the stage is normally your voice.

  1. **If you are good enough to play your own songs but you're shit singing covers **(that is so normal, don't worry if that's the case)
Well this is the most normal of the cases, because when you make a song, you make it with your normal voice, so it's soo strange you can't even sing the song you've created (it may happen that through the years you can't, and sorry, i have no experience of that, you may need a tutor there). The problem arrives when you have to sing covers, that aren't made for your voice. Well, this is another hard one. Depending on the case, you could just switch the tone of the song to a more comfortable one, but further than that, it is a version, not a cover anymore (they're not different things tho) Then you are more free, to adjust it to your style, eliminating the hard parts and switching the sections that are the hardest. Obviously, if you want to make a more faithful cover/version, you may look for a singing tutor to help you with the technique, and what to change and what not
#
  1. If you (think) you suck at both of them (covers and one's voice)
Then you must evaluate your voice. If you find it's just a problem of self-confidence, you may need to expose to small audiences, to make your self image stronger.
If you find it is another problem not related to mental stuff, you should ask for professional singers and so to give you a place to discover what's the issue, or relegate to make easier things, like chorus or smth. But well, that's the last option. The best one is to find a tutor, who can evalue your progress and what are your real limits. This won't be easy. This won't be spontaneus. But is the only and (almost, pacience is requiered as I said) always-effective method to solve this
