Songwriting Advice?

I’d seen a lot of people in this server that have been posting original songs lately, so I thought I’d take a stab at it. I took an hour of my time to think, and I couldn’t think of anything original. So, songwriters of Discord, do you guys have any advice for amateur songwriters like myself?

This is how I write songs.

I usually first think of a topic I want to write about it can be anything.

I think of incorporating that theme into a melody. So I think of the melody and make it a chorus of my song. And then start putting it down on a instrument.

Go back and creat a opening/ first verse melody and add lyrics to it. It’s basically free styling until you find something you like.

Do it for every part of the song and try to play it all the way through
