so...something that might help and this goes for adding any kind of distortion is knowing what your natural range is underneath. even making it as simple as basically speaking and then singing your "speaking" voice. im not able to really hear it in the audio clips well but to do any distortion it has to be on top of where you know your most comfortable range is. obv i dont know your background/exp but i would tell this to anyone: distortion really only works when you have the foundation pretty solid. hope that makes sense. @burnt ferry

you have a preferred genre it seems but make sure that you find what your own voice naturally does best as opposed to going for what you just really like. this doesn't mean you can't use distortion (or not explore the genre you are into itself) but it certainly works best on top of where your natural range is.
