In the not-too-distant future the aging gene has been switched off. To avoid overpopulation, time has become the currency and the way people pay for luxuries and necessities. The rich can live forever, while the rest try to negotiate for their immortality. A poor young man who comes into a fortune of time, though too late to help his mother from...

I remember seeing this movie opening weekend. As a big fan of the books, I had so much hope from the trailers that they were going to redeem themselves on the first movie (which wasn’t bad but it was very different from the book in a lot of ways) and then it just…didn’t
SoM has some cool references to the book, ||Nathan Fillion makes a funny firefly reference,|| but that’s about where the good part of the movie ends

I loved the percy jackson books when I was younger and was so let down by the movies as well

#

it could have been a better franchise than (dare I say it) Harry Potter

I thought the first one could have been better tho

That’s what I’m saying. Like, idk if it was studio interference or what

#

Following other movie trends at the time of release?

I bet it was. The first book lends itself perfectly to being a movie in terms of pacing and general plot

Then again, I guess that’s why there’s a series

true, but there are ways around it

I watched the first episode of the Disney+ show on Hulu a while ago and I got a similar vibe to the movies in that it wasn’t how I imagined, it was different from the books in a lot of ways
If any recommends I keep watching if the rest gets any better, I’m just a hard fan of the books and I’m always salty when an adaptation doesn’t adapt it exactly how imagine it or close to

I mean now I like the movies but they don’t capture the tone of the books like the first two movies did

3rd movie is my fav lol

Also want to note that I like the books but I don’t support any of the Rowling BS, honestly probably wouldn’t be interested in them at all if it weren’t for them being my first chapter books

Oh yeah i get that, separating the art from the artist

I mean I can definitely see that, it’s a great movie in it’s own right, I just didn’t like the aesthetic and tonal change in the Azkaban—onwards because it didn’t feel like the books IMO

Yeah, I think Cuaron was the only one who could really pull off that stylistic change well

#

I do wish they didn't keep it

They just kind of turned it in to generic 2010s fantasy vibes like twilight especially after Cuaron, he was was kind of the stepping stone to that style in that regard

#

Don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy all of the Harry Potter movies— I even went to go see Deathly Hallows Part 2 in theaters twice
I just grew up with the books and the Jim Dale audiobooks before watching the films so it’s hard to shake how imagined them being

#

I hope that they do the new show justice, and that’s all I can hope for besides just reading/listening to all of the books again
