I have a scene, it's a dramatic ending scene. It starts with the main character (who is also the killer) finishing killing his best friend in a dramatic fight, and it's very sad. The scene ends with the main character getting shot and falling slowly down a cliff. I'll send the part of the script, just so you who is reading, can get a good idea, but I would like some music recommendation for such a thing. A couple of things I'm looking for are songs like "What once was" by Her's, or "The Killing Moon" by Echo and the Bunnymen.

The actual scene consists of various shots of our character, covered in blood, looking really really out of it, walking down a dimly lit street, and then he reaches a cliff, looks down it, then the cops pull up. He looks back at them, he throws a knife at them, he's shot, and it's a slo-mo fall down until Splat. no more main character. I would love recommendations

So, being clear, you do know you'd need to get the rights for the song, yes?

Not that they're cheap mind you

#

Not at all

#

Just, easier than others

If you’re making the film for YouTube release you could use LICKD

(licked is ONLY for use on that specific video on that specific channel (can't also use that song in IG or social posts nor can you use it in the trailer). It's also only good for SOCIAL MEDIA VIDEOS so no film festivals or anything like that. A straight to youtube situation)

Exactly

#

Only way to be 100% sure you have the rights is to, well, license the rights directly from the copyright holders

it's a youtube film. not like, professional grade. I've been told that if it's just going on youtube, so long as you credit the song creators in the credits, no copyright strikes will be made

Whoever said that is wrong

i see

If it's going straight to youtube it will be more lax true, no body is gonna fine you a billion gajiallon bucks

#

But a strike or a claim is up to the rights holder. Sometimes they'll actually follow up, sometimes they wont

#

Someone like nintendo? They famously don't want anyone messing with their IP

#

Someone else like Minecraft? They encourage it

fr, i wouldn't dare mess with nintendo's crap

Assuming it's a smaller channel you'll PROLLY be fine. But if you get a lot of subscribers don't be shocked if you get an email one day

#

But can't promise anything its really up to them. Some people are more lax than others

yeah, i'm like, very small youtube channel, so i doubt i'll get much attention

It's more a matter of are you too small for them to care

Yeah nah maybe like 15 years ago that was a thing. I’ve uploaded videos privated/unlisted with temp copyrighted music for a client when I was first starting out and got a strike. They have powerful algorithms scanning all the uploads. Doesn’t matter on the size of channel either, I had like 20 subs at the time

You need clearance/licensing even for YouTube unless it is public domain music or attribution 3.0/4.0 where you need to credit the creator

Think of it as if you were in their shoes—you have a successful career with a bunch of movies you made that make money every time someone watches them, and then someone decides to reupload your movie to their channel but like change a couple things
