#š„ Sinners

I mean the choctaw seemed more afraid of the vampires
I think I'd get pretty bored being immortal, I'd find a way to hibernate or something, just fast forward an entire decade
just because the night came
He definitely didnāt like the KKK, but he changes tactics to get in once he realizes they are KKK. I still think he woulda bit em anyways, just would have used different tactic rather then āthem dirty, injuns are tormenting me, also want some gold?ā
they were afraid cause they knew he'd bonk their asses in the dark, with the sun out they would've turned his ass into dog food
I think the best strat would just be to go find a secret dark place to sleep in during the day and then go out at night and live your life
Only cause theyāre smart and wonāt fight when they have a disadvantage. Sun was going down, Remmick can fly and shit. They were right to run off.
I would lowk be yelling at rammeck to turn me into one if i saw him
They were already 3/4 of the way there. He couldnāt even see outta one eye lol
Take some painkillers first. These guys have like ROWS of goddamn teeth.
I wonder if rammeck is semi immune to the sun, or if he just has a higher durability compared to lesser vampires
Since hes implied to have hauled ass accross a fuckin desert in broad daylight and dosent look that burnt
For me personally, I didnt watched any trailer or read synopsis, i went straight in and I was in till halfway through and enjoying it. Then all of a sudden we have vampires now? I was like wtf is even going on where are they going with this. It was too on the nose and not subtle enough for me
Which also I really did like the design on making the vamps truly monstrous looking when they showed the angler fish like teeth n glowing eyes. Very nice change from the twilight vamps weāve gotten shoved down our throats
isn't the implication as he lands that maybe he flew there... maybe turned into a bat
redneck vamps ahah
maybe its not flying as much as a big ass jump
I think heās way older than the others and they gain strength through age usually in vamp lore
he does fly in that other scene though, there's no jump takeoff
I think like that too, boy was older, stronger, kinda goes together
I was really confused by that till someone pointed out that he can fly short distances. I think he was flying and was super weak, could only sustain it long enough to put distance between him and Choctaw
Rammeck can fly but we dont see any evidence that he can turn into a bat i think
maybe the different between flying and jumping is like night n day
So in theory does that mean that stack could endure the sun if he gets old enough?
anyhow, seeing the hype around the movie I really came in the theater with one goal in mind, hate on the movie, it didn't happen tho
he'd get burnt a lil
Because rammeck was fuckin flying for an entire day it seems since he reached the house of the couple a hour before the sun sets so man was jus tanking the sun for a whole day basically
that must hurt like hell tho
Just take a ferocious blunt hit and some drinks and your all set to enjoy your day
how long had they been hunting him though. they might have just dug him up and chased him around a cave all day
I think this shows a misunderstanding, they donāt fuck with yt ppl⦠my impression is smoke and stack donāt trust yt strangers. The reason Mary is diff is because she knew them since young.
Yes downside to the hype is people hating on it to be cool or cause they were expecting something different.
I wanted to be cool but I'm a sheep now
Im assuming a day since the shot we see of the desert behind rammeck has no shade for him to just wait it, so he must have been enduring the sun for a couple of hours atleast just to get away from the tribe
Some people outside my theatre were complaining that it wasnāt a vampire flick till the end and a lady sitting next to me got SUPER frustrated cause she couldnāt tell Smoke and Stack apart. So not for everyone I guess.
How the fuck can you not tell them apart
Their deadass dressed in red and blue so you can tell em apart tf
I LITERALLY WHISPERED BLUE = SMOKE, RED = STACK cause her boyfriend was all āidkā
Completely different style hats and personalities too lol
Bro itd be one thing if it was just the hats but they deadass got red and blue shirts underneath the suits too so like wtf
Call me weird but I thought smokes hat was rounder cause he was more soft and stacks was sharper cause he was a little firmer/no nonsense
š
I think their outfits are based on the gangs they worked for in chicago
Saw the idea that smoke worked for the irish and stack for the italians
That makes sense. Are those style hats typical for each? I really felt the styles fit them well
I was confused cause in the beginning I thought thereās no way this dude is playing BOTH characters, they were so unique. Then I sat next to that lady šš
Yeah smokes cap is pretty popular in ireland and the uk, and the fedoras basically the stereotypical hat for italian gangsters
Yea that definitely makes sense with the Irish beer, Italian wine dealeo š
I think they both joined different gangs just so they can steal their money and then leave while they duke it out
Damn I guess if they took the immortality route, the mob couldnāt really do shit about it. That woulda been funny AF.
In a sense the juke joints literally built with blood since the twins just caused a full on gang war back in chicago just to fund it
Yes I believe Mary says this while sheās convincing Stack to let her go listen to ā Will Ye Go Lassie, Go?ā lol
Did anyone understand the significance of the Juke floor being washed when they purchased it? It was presented like foreshadowing but it flew over my head.
the guy selling didn't wanna tell it was a slaughterhouse
it wasn't no barn or nothing
I think the flood was just super dirty ig
Wasnt it a saw mill?
no they got lied to, its exposed later on and then back again when the boys roll back to sweep the black folks afterparty
they sold them a slaughterhouse and wanted to kill 'em all at the end, keeping the fat stacks of course
I understood the kkk plan, but it really blew past me that it was a slaughterhouse.
Ngl the kkk would have been fuckin rekt either way
I forgot who said it but I remember the words
I was all āhow do the clean floors help them kill everyone?ā
Rammeck said it when he was trying to make the remaining members leave the juke joint
He revealed the kkks plans
And this is why I need to woman up and ask for a closed captioning device
I realize this more often now but since I'm watching the movies in english and they're subbed, I get to see everything that was said but like good lord sometimes you cannot hear shit
I remember him laying it all out but I donāt remember him saying it wasnāt a sawmill. I think KKK grandkid said something about it being a killing floor or something along those lines
But I thought he was just saying that cause the kkk intended to kill everyone the next morning
think its linked
Yk i just imagined, what if the kkk pulled up and just got fodderized by the vampires and then the vampires just went back to waiting to be let in
Yuuup. I can usually hear about 85% of whatās said, but I hate not knowing that 15% Subtitles are the best
Kkk plan was to come in the morning I think to kill everyone after they had partied all night?
Yeah
Which i think would have failed either way
Gl getting the jump on 2 heavily armed ww 1 vets
Remmick had enough vampires to deal with the Juke. He should have sent the KKK couple vamps to go turn the rest of the KKK. They would have let their grandkid and his wife in for sure.
Yk the whole movie coulda ended allot sooner if rammeck and the kkk coupe just did a rocky road to dublin performance infront of the juke joint
Im sure the twins woulda left to check out the fire dance number rammeck was busting out
Swap out āPick Poor Robinā for āRocky Road to Dublinā and they woulda been BEGGING them to come in šš jkjk Juke was looking for blues music. Smoke mighta thought the Irish were after him
Lmao yea if Stack was there and Smoke kept his mojo bag on, KKK would have been obliterated.
I loved when Smoke was about to hold his baby and the grand master decided to be annoying one last time so smokes like hang on one sec lemme take care of this real quick š¤£
this felt like a tarantino scene
Yesyesyes this makes sense, I LOVE Tarantino
Very good film, the music was amazing
Went in fairly clueless without a single trailer watched and just a concept of what goes on with the vampires and such. Really enjoyable
The Irish dancing caught me off guard
yall klan?
remmick:
The sequence of I Lied to You at the Juke Club put me in a trance like holy
can't wait to see it again on the imax 70mm re-release next week
A mid credits scene is even better when you don't have a post credits one
HOLY SHIT
Great fuckin movie
Sinners > Nosferatu
That dance hall scene with the past and future spirits was like, one of the coolest things i've seen in a movie in years
Im trying to figure out the oral motif? Was it like the power of the mouth?
Theres like 6 different scenes with references to oral sex, and that paired with prayers and singing and the bites of the vampires, it felt like a very intentional repeating motif related to mouths
I thought before seeing the movie that the vampires would be a sort of metaphor for rich whites, given the subject material, but it was interesting that it wasn't the case. Despite their evil the vampires wanted a full "family" regardless of color
lmaoo
i was about to comment
something like
"what does nosferatu have to do with anything"
then I remembered
sinners
is a vampirish
movie

They're also two of the biggest horror movies in the last year
Sinners was smart to keep the camera on those TEETH
I hated how we didn't even see Orlock's fangs until like 5 seconds before the end of Nosferatu
how can you hide the damn fangs in a vampire movie
The vampires were also oddly compelling and empathetic in a way?
Like they were evil but I felt like their desire for "family" was authentic
orlok has 2 teef
I liked it a lot, but didn't love it
I was hoping it would be a little more different than other adaptations of Dracula
I prefer the 1977 Nosferatu
I actually really enjoyed Nosferatu. But Sinners blows it out of the water. Itās almost unfair to compare them. The only thing both films had in common that I liked was the vampire(s) were alluring without being over the top attractive ātwilightā types. Orlock was downright repulsive, but there was still an odd draw to him that I feel like itād be normal for these creatures to have.
This is really interesting! There WERE a lot of oral sex references, werenāt there??!! I canāt believe I missed this lol
Yup! Michael A Jordan tells his cousin how to go down on a woman, he uses that later, the white girl chastises Michael B Jordan with "you stuck your tongue in my cooz", there was a few more too
It was too specific to be a broad "sexuality" motif like most vampire movies have
Also Hailee Stanfield with fangs and blood dripping from her mouth.. was really really hot
Oh yeah, I also loved the homage to The Thing with the garlic eating scene, and the usage of the shot from The Shining when Vampire Stack is locked in the storage closet
I can't wait to rewatch it
I wish Smoke lived but I get why it happened
When his baby mama grabbed his crotch I was like "Oh damn, time for Michael D Jordan"
Sinners blows Nosferatu out of the water
And I loved Nosferatu
But Iām sorry it doesnāt even come close to Sinners
Agree
Meep
Yeah
So yee, elaborate?
Do I need to block stuff out? How do I do that. Or has everyone seen it
Am I making sense so far
Sorry just gimme a moment
I need to do smth irl
Ill reply soon
I haven't seen that other film, so admittedly cant comment on that portion of this paragraph at all
I dunno. The movie didn't land for me. I could see what he was going for but it just didn't do it for me. Didn't like the garlic scene. I get it the thing and faculty. Then that "oh are you sure that was blood?" Didn't vibe with me at all
"a lot of people dont know about the reference" ....but the film outright shows that through the mere events, no?
Also
They were burnt because of the sun, not because he was stabbed.
And remember, its mentioned vampires CAN return...they exist even if a physical form is destroyed.
And I mean...it WAS a massacre...everyone except Smoke and Sammie died.
But i do understand..not every film is for everyone! If it didnt work for you it didnt work for you
I guess
I liked Nosferatu more
Haven't seen that yet. Will do though
But I also like Beauty and the Beast 1978 more than Nosferatu
don really understand the comparisons with nosferatu and sinners though lol
just cause both are vampire films, doesn't mean its easy to compare
Yeah
Yeah, Smoke suddenly appearing in the water was pure plot armour lol. That I hated. Also KKK showing up in the morning. These are huge plot holes.
Schafrillas wrote in LB "Couldn't Sammie ask the good spirits for help with his music?"
Plot armour lol. Never heard that before but it fits. Yeah. Call me crazy but when I see plot holes and contrivances the size of the grand canyon and I hear comments like masterpiece and great and best film and it has to be nominated I tend to scratch my head and question reality.
Really? You've never heard of plot armour? Lol this one's a good example for that. It's frustrating.
As for smoke letting stack live. I'm guessing stack wasn't running around eating rats through the years. The blood on smokes hands is probably a lot.
Anyway that I don't mind. Maybe he didn't give a hoot.
But yeah plot armour I feel there was a lot of that.
It's a metaphor for culture vultures but I think it's done well
I'll be honest 77' Nosferatu feels like a tv movie but Kinski's vulnerable count drac is my from the 3 nossies
The KKK are different to the first nation's vampire killers and would risk something at night? I'll give them benefit of the doubt.
Sunlight š„
I am a little confused because a lot of these are just you asking questions rather than stating the inconsistencies or contradictions
the vamps dying when remmick got stabbed tho I was confused about that moment because they all reacted when he got hit with the guitar so I thought huh? are they linked through pain. But it was just that when he got hit the first time, they all psychologically felt the pain but then after he dies the sun rises and that's what kills them all
why would the kkk show up at night
Isn't it guaranteed that everyone would be there at night. Rather than in the morning.
"oh they gonna booze up all night and be tired all morning lets kill them all while they sleep"
vamps died when the sun rose lmao
not when remick got stabbed
How did 6 people with zero training (except for michael b jordan) fend of 20 vamps when they stormed the barn. Should have been a massacre.
it was a massacre everyone died except sammie
how is that even a question
only smoke survived the vamps
he died too
oh nvm lol others already answered the question
its fine if you didnt like the movie
its just a problem when you ask questions that were answered in the movie
i could say smoke could get past the vamps cause of the guitar blow to the head made them staggered but that prolly sounds like a cop out to you and i get it it;s fine lol
That makes me wonder how Mary survived tbh
Like yeah, she ran away
But the morning was just around the corner lol
Stack probably had to stay inside the barn until the next night because he obviously couldn't get out, and when he finally did he had to walk past Smoke's body :c
i mean we dont know where stack took her when smoke killed annie
Don't quote me on this, but I think there was a shot of her in the mid credit scene where she was running away
Or she stayed in the barn as well idk
Either way, lol
I honestly don't mind plot holes, I don't mind using my imagination a bit if it's not too outrageous
No you're right there was a shot of her running off. The question to ask is Why did she run???? What possible reason did she have to run off and leave stack and all her vamp brothers and sisters and even her vamp lord remick. If she was so keenly aware of the sun why werent the others. Anyways maybe it's my ocd. Maybe inconsistencies and things that don't fit bother me. Or maybe I'm just no fun. Who knows?
Nah I actiually agree with you lol, there are some things especially in the third act that did bother me a little
Thanks. Nice to hear. Atleast I'm not completely nuts
They were there to burn it down and kill any black people still around after an all-nighter.
After all the KKK are weak and cowardly assholes who are not brave enough to face an entire building full of people
it's not a plot hole of you misunderstand the motives
No agree the kkk are cowards and that's why historically they attacked at night. And they would wear their robes. It's much easier than in broad daylight. Look it up. Why wait till morning when you could set the barn on fire and shoot anyone that comes out. What if everyone left before you got there. Was supposed to be a slaughter house right? Why not catch people while their in the throws of music and booze. At least that's what I feel would happen. Anyways, maybe your explanation is what coogler thought.
the kkk come at night and lynch a single person or a couple of guys, but even though they are dumb fucks they are also cowardly enough to never go into something outnumbered
They wouldn't have to. They have guns. The party goers dontt. All they would do is hide in the bushes and pick people off. They wouldnt even need to hide in the bushes.. A crowd of unarmed party goers wouldnt stand a chance against even 5 people with guns. And they were alot more than 5. School shooters and club shooters are usually just 1 person and the damage is a lot. Bullets beat bodies any day. I dunno man. To me waiting till morning makes no sense. What if the majority of people had left.
Okay you know what? I'm gonna go watch the movie again. To see if I was just nit picking. No use me ranting about it
I feel like you're really trying hard to justify why a couple of white guys would show up to a party in the middle of the night (a party run by notorious gangsters, who are likely to be quite armed). I feel like if in the movie the kkk had showed up at night you'd say that was a plot hole too and ask "why did the kkk show up?"
I like the movie well enough. It's just people who say plot holes that aren't actually plot holes are the reason a movie is less good is a pet peeve of mine.
It's a good schlocky period vampire movie that riffs on movies that came before it. But full of "plot holes" it is not
Fair enough
I think that is part of the issue⦠ur looking at IMDb/letterbox ratings or what ever rating siteā¦etc with regard to merit of a film. It isnāt the end all be all, especially with how easy it is to manipulate scores.
It can be a 4/5, 4.5/5, 5/5 and not be as good as godfather right?
Idk anyone that is saying this is the greatest movie ever made, itās def impressive far from the greatest.
Yeah maybe you're right. I pay too much attention to the ratings. Like you said they are easily manipulated and all that. You make a lot of sense
None of these are plot holes. You should pay more attention
Yeah this
In the film we just see stack pick up Mary and go away
Then yeah in post credit we see the shot of her running away
Any ideas why she was the only one that ran, leaving behind stack and the others?
Ha! Ok
There are a looooot of people who're saying this is the best film of the decade/century even
I still don't get Smoke showing up with Sammie in the water. That definitely feels like convenient writing. You know to wrap the scene up quickly.
What critic is saying this?
Nah, coming out of the barn, running towards the water past the vamps that quickly is not that convincing
Century is far-fetched, it being a ānominatedā or being a ācontenderā for the past 10 years is more believable.
I've seen a couple of reviews say it's the century's best but many claim it's the decade's best. And I think even that's too much.
dune 2 and across the spiderverse better
š„
Of course
yeah
Yes it has plot holes but the scenery, casting, and MUSIC!!!?
Those are top tier
About to watch it for a third time
You asked for it, you got it. Here's my review of Ryan Coogler's Sinners.
His review was very positive, suprisingly
Nah you're not alone. I didnt either
Oh brother wonder what he had to say
I hope he gets gang banged at some point but anyways
It just gets better and better on rewatch. Saw it with my mom for Motherās Day
He gushed over it
Vid was super short less then 5 min
https://x.com/letterboxd/status/1921576426848793035?s=46 already? Damn
frrr
@weary jacinth everyone?š
My mistake
hehehe
can't wait to see this again on friday with IMAX 70mm
also soldout immediately as well
The juke club scene, the one that everyone is glazing over is imo lame in that its wholly inconsequential. If Coogler is actually a mad lad, he would work the surrealist elements into how the film would be presented throughout, or give these elements actual thematically meanings. But as it stands it screams "I can do surrealist arthouse scene too" energy.
Also are just gonna ignore the fact that Coogler put fucking Wukong in there literally because two of the characters happened to be Chinese?
Like they aren't even playing music, wtf lmao
This is like if they had some Indian people helping out and they just put some Bollywood shit in there next to the blues stuff. No one thinks that's kinda fucked up?
How is it fucked up to represent someoneās culture? O.o
When I brought this up days ago on this thread I was told I didnāt watch the movie fully, pay attention. Iād love to know where that person wentā¦..
Nvm, you said I left the movie before the after credits scene. I didnāt. I saw both. Please explain how thatās relevant and if it answers how Smoke got there that fast, Iām sure everyone else would like to know too lol
š
There doesnāt seem to be any more imax viewings which is annoying. Iāve only been able to see the film in a regular screen
Iāll definitely consider the 4K blu ray and put it on my OLED at home
I'm with you Lyla. It doesn't make any sense. But no one wants to mention it because it would mean their perfect movie actually has flaws. For me, it's fine to like it but atleast be honest about it. The movie had a lot of scenes like that where shit was just done out of convenience. Like Mary conveniently running away so that she survived in the end. Why would she run? Why was she the only one? Why would she leave stack behind? Its not like all her vamps were dead and she felt outnumbered? And if she ran because she was aware of the time wouldnt everybody?
She didn't leave Stack behind though
in the post credits scene, Stack explains that Smoke let him go, Stack left with Mary while he went to go save Sammie
Whatās crazy is I LOVED this movie. Seen it 3 times in theatres. The imax experience was MAGICAL. But there definitely were plot flaws/things that didnāt add up 100%. For me the big ones that you have to STRETCH to explain is Smoke appearing out of nowhere to stab Remmick and why Stack/Mary ran away when first turned and did not make ANY attempts to bite Sammy or ANYONE else at the juke when they are part of the hive mind. And if they WERENT part of the hivemind, why were they doing Remmick bidding? It makes sense in the END that Stack and Mary are the only ones left in the hive so they can pretty much do what they wantā¦..doesnāt make sense they had this ability to ignore hivemind and make deals while Remmick and others are still alive.
they were able to ignore Remmick's hivemind at the end because that was around the time Smoke had killed Remmick, the hold had dissipated
Right, I watched that bit. I understand that Smoke and Stack made a deal (Smoke letās Stack go if he promises to leave Sammie alone) and I know Stack and Mary leave together. This STILL does NOT explain how Smoke got to Sammie so quickly in the water AND through a hoard of vampires. Did Stack throw him? Was that part of the deal?
It wasn't that far a distance from the Juke house to the river
and it's been established that Smoke is a combat vet, same as Stack, and was shown to have quick reflexes and good combat skill against the vampires throughout the whole movie
Pretty sure Remmick was still alive when Smoke made the deal with stack. Because right after that deal is made, he runs to Sammie, and stakes Remmick from behind. Also, when they are first changed, hivemind is very much in tact and yet Mary decides sexy time with stack is more important then the hivemind goal of turning Sammie. Then both stack and Mary decide running out of the juke is the best option instead of biting as many people as possible (hivemind goal).
Again, I can make stuff up that fits with the narrative to try and explain, but itās a stretch and these are things that wouldnāt have had to been explained if they were avoided/done differently. I LOVED the movie, but these 2 things could have been better. Wouldnāt be surprised if there are some nice deleted scenes in a directors cut later
Okay so the structure of the order of events is that yes Remmick was still alive with Smoke made that deal, what happened in between that moment though was Smoke making his way out of the juke joint and running to Sammie. Also, since its a hivemind you can equally argue that since Remmick was focused mainly on Sammie and thinking he'd won, he had not considered or even noticed Smoke coming up to him, it also entirely possible that Smoke swam under and came up from behind him
ALSO, considering that Remmick was injured thanks to Sammie hitting him with the guitar, he was already distraced, and since, hivemind, the hivemind was also distracted
The fact that this is an issue at all shows they should have spent just a TINY bit more time exploring the hivemind and how it worked.
But hey, Iām not complaining. I friggin loved the film. I really hope there some extra footage released š
Well said Lyla. I like the way uou watched the movie. You can love it. And still call it out when needed. These days everybody is all do or die. The thing i support can do no wrong and any one that points out flaws is an idiot that should be shunned. Its called film criticism for a reason. Objectivity has to come in. Personally I didn't love it. Not that I thought it was shit. It has bright spots the cinematography, the music, a couple of the performances ( Delroy Lindo, Jack O' Connel and Wunmi Musaku for me). But story wise certain things didnt land. I had the same issue with US and Nope. Also coogler made certain choices that i didnt agree with. But thats all personal preference so no issues with that. All in all I thought it was decent. The best of the year so far? Its a toss up between this and Mickey 17. But i have a feeling over the coming months neither will be high on my list.
It'd have been better if they showed a scene with Smoke struggling to get past the vamps & running towards the water to convince the audience instead of just suddenly appearing.
It may feel like deep nitpicking but things like these which seem tiny, impact an important scene which comes later on so it's necessary to discuss.
Because that's not representing, it's reducing it enough to use it in your movie as a set piece. Does Chinese opera have any significance in the movie? The whole analogy is about blues and music that inspired and inspired by blues. It even uses the Irish music as an antithesis, so what is Chinese opera doing here besides "hey we got two Asian characters in the scene"
The after credit scene explains nothing about bro teleporting behind the main villain in front of the entire vampire congregation
Also, does becoming a vampire make a different character? The film seems to suggest that is the case (which is why they're killing all the vampires, because your friends are dead, they are no longer your friends, just people with their memories)
But in the post credit scene the film still treats stack as the same character? Otherwise the whole dialogue would've made no sense. So were they actually just killing their friends when they killed all the vampires?
I disagree highly. The entire point of that scene was to show how the power of Sammieās music was enough to blur the lines of Time/Space of MUSIC and those connected to it. I thought it was beautiful to include the representation of Chinese culture considering the Chows were just as much a part of the juke as anyone else there. They were a part of the music so their ancestors were also called upon. Kinda the reason Remmick desired Sammie so badly. Do you think he just wanted to hang out with black music artists from the past and future? Nah, if Remmick was a part of Sammieās sound, his ancestors would have been called too. Which is what he wanted. It was powerful to show that Sammieās ability isnāt solely about blues or black artists, is about his sound being so righteous that it calls upon the ancestors of whoever is enjoying it to come party lol
I can guarantee either fantastic four or superman will beat this 2025 record eventually
Being five months in and only having two movies hit the million is crazy
although I guess 2024 only had challengers and dune 2 reach that in it's first half of the year
Lilo and Stitch too
How to Train Your Dragon will also probably make a big splash
To my dismay
What if its good tho
Maybe it will
But the animated one means a lot to me personally so that's why I get so defensive with the live action lol
Same, I would like to know why people have their hopes high for it, like it's the exact same movie, line for line, pretty much shot for shot, with nothing new, how unexciting can a remake get
Somehow feels lazier than the existing disney remakes that aren't lion king
My ā ā ā ā review of Sinners on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/9EDWXb
Just to give the context of my experience. I was extremely tired that night and my eyes were shutting off. The thing that intrigued me most about this film is the build up to the event of the main conflict. You could see how all the threads were coinciding in that barn. The moment was perfectly complemented by the beautiful blues music. Which br...
What bothers me the most is the fact that the monstrous nightmare and the nadder look like GOT/Monster Hunter dragons but Toothless looks cartoonish, he looks so out of place
Good point, I didn't think of that till now
And it sucks because HTTYD's dragon designs are great despite being cartoonish
So I don't understand the need to make the monstrous nightmare look like Drogon when that thing is already terrifying in the context of the animation
yeah but I don't necessarily wand ultra realistic features
Anyone know tv shows that are similar in theme and messages to Sinners?
Need to know for an essay on racial media
Thinking of lovecraftian country to pair with it but planning to add more
Pickle garlic was thrown on Stack so thatās why he dipped out asap
Two Micheal B Jordans?!! Yes please!!!
And Mary? Any idea why she ran off after she discovered she was bulletproof lol??
im not ryan or mary so idk why they did what she did
I think in that moment she was under Remmick's hive mind control so I think that was Remmick rather than her lol
Literally one of the best movie scenes i've seen in years
Yer mad
Im here, I wasnt referring to that one part, but your dearth of complaints that weren't really plot holes, moreso conveniences
Like when you said that killing the lead vampire shouldn't have killed the rest, but they died from the sunlight, not the lead vampire dying
conveniences are equally as bad imo
Also the reason why there is confusion by some about this scene is how things were set up. Remick sizzled earlier in the sunlight he didn't burn so ofcourse people are going to think it cant be the sun that killed the vamps so.quick. It didnt help that seconds prior to them burning up, remick got hit in the head with guitar and they all recoiled in pain. Logically one would think a stake to the heart would affect them all. Possibly leading to them being annihilated at once. Then they see that stack and Mary survived and then they are left wondering all over again.
I feel it was intentional so that Stack showing up at the end was unexpected
When he was sizzling the sun was already down past the horizon
Smoke sneaking up in the water was certainly a convenience though
But most films have conveniences, few are airtight
A minor flaw
It doesn't feel right when you conveniently write an important scene
Can't say it bothered me
Very good movie. 4/5
Harsh
You're making a mountain out of a molehill
Hmm?
Not you
Gonna be rewatching tomorrow
100+ degree weather what??
Yeah that's the American South in summer

Erm that vampire is out in daylight
I love that every Irish person I know absolutely loves the jig scene
I haven't stopped listening to that song since the movie came out
Amazing
Absolutely amazing
It really shows you at happens when a director is allowed t spread there wings
Missed the point entirely
Like entirely
The whole point of that scene was that music and culture is transient and each can inspire others in ways that are positive.
Stop with the weird gate keeping
It can be that and tasteless at the same time
These things are not mutually exclusive
You
Are
Missing
The point
Your argument is the weirdest misconstrued way of interpreting Coulgers inclusion of this thing .
I understand exactly what he was going for there, doesn't affect the fact that it's a goofy scene
It sticks out like a sore thumb stylistically and screams "I want to shoot an artsy oner" which is just cringe and tryhard
And that wasn't even my biggest problem with the film
This whole vampirism as cultural appropriation/music industry sucking the life out of "real music" analogy imo is just as goofy, especially with the inclusion of that post credit. When the entire premise was that turning into vampires is to become a different character, that post credit sequence just a slap on the face
Like I actually like the concept behind this idea, but if you can't hold off on this superhero tarantino bullshit then maybe don't treat your analogy, especially the mechanism of your analogy, that seriously before
Either you are serious or you're not, as it stands, the film just keeps on embarrassing itself by betraying its own tone. The loosey goosey from dusk till dusk stuff directly undercuts any serious character works and thematic notes the film is trying to make
And by character works, I mean the lack thereof the moment they introduce the vampire plots
That music scene..coming from a musician..was one of the best scenes this last decade. Visionary, and brilliant
He captured in 5 minuites the thoughts every musician has. Will my music be remembered? Am I a part of something bigger? How will music evolve? Rtc
Never seen anything like that.
!!
This image is funnier now
Sinners AU where everything is normal except that every character besides Smoke is a muppet
You say tasteless, I say one of the most impactful and visually beautiful scenes I've witnessed in a movie in years
Just sounds like you're desperately hunting for things to complain about
Which I can understand, I do the same thing for shit like Prometheus and Alien Covenant, but thats because those movies constantly break their own canon/rules to shoehorn in shit that makes no sense
PLEASE
It was like the opening of 2001 or the 1 shot takes from Children of Men, INSTANTLY iconic
I think it's worse for movies like this, which had a straight face when talking about some high commentary and then comes back with some "I don't care about my own logic" bs.
If this was in any way more pulpy or campy it would've been fine, but it has to takes itself super seriously
You can't have your cake and eat it too
that only applys to bakers
And we all know vampires don't cook
Remmick cooked with that Irish song idk
Fair

I think youāre confusing me with someone else.
Whups
i dont think sinners is gonna leave my brain for the rest of the year
Bruh nahh
On Saturday night after leaving a horror convention I heard someone playing the vampire dance song on full blast on the way to the car lol
Welcome back Dune 2
How was it whoever saw it
4/5, just the 2nd half feels a bit generic. Music & performances are the highlights. Theatre experience was great.
I sang Rocky Road to Dublin at Karaoke on friday night XD
I fucked it up, its too fast and the lyrics were only showing 2 lines at a time so it was so hard to keep up
Gotta go faster mate

I thought this movie was massively overrated
If Michael b Jordan gets an Oscar nom for his performance I will throw away the Oscars in my head as barometers of good movies/performances
The only part I really really liked was the ending
Super poignant
Iāve been listening to the blues ever since
I couldnāt understand what the characters were saying half the time
shouldn't you have thrown away the oscars in your head for the numerous past worse choices they've made?
Yeah like Anora winning best picture
every year there's something
Then there's Flow winning!
lol not Anora catching strays š. What didnāt you like about that?
and flow to š
I loved that movie but last year was kinda weak compared to 2023 in terms of Oscar best picture noms I agree
Anora to me was a fine best picture nominee
By the way I didnāt hate this movie
Sinners
Maybe half of it I more or less disliked but the ending added like 3 or 4 points
In the end Iād probably give it a 6 or 7 out of 10
I enjoyed myself
it's definitely no The Artist or Green Book
Absolutely deserved, glad it won
The real question is, why tf did so many find it that special? It's not like the first movie with 'guy wronging the girl' plot. And don't start with "There's more to it", no there isn't, little to no depth. It's a very hollow film with shallow characters.
Dune 2 or even Furiosa easily blow it out of the water.
Man I have to wait till early July for my 4k blu ray pre order to arrive so I can see it again...
yea true
I'm just quite glad the imax version is what's avaliable at home
No idea why warner or the director of dune 1 & 2 didn't let us get the imax versions of those two viewable at home
Yeah
š
You can bet your ass that Micheal b Jordan will not be returning unless they give him a hefty amount to return
I think he has enough respect for coogler to acknowledge he wouldn't really want a sequel
I do not want a sinners sequel
I donāt either š
Cause I know it wonāt tie into the first film as thatās all ended. Itāll just be āah yes more vampiresā but with a whole different story just to have the title Sinners⦠stupid.
Yuuuuuup
I don't really see anyone from the first movie returning
At least a sinners sequel isn't forced upon coogler and he's stopped from doing another personal film project
Lol, lmao even
no way this happens under current heads of wb pictures
WB would absolutely do this
im saying the current heads of wb
pam and luca
considering what they said about working with coogler ion think it;d happen
Bro they better add this to letterboxd
This looks more fire the more you observe it
Haha yeah....
can't let any meme-y ones ever unless it's for movies nobody cares about
one of the top posters for Cars 2 on letterboxd is quite funny
I wish tmdb allowed fan works
they should find a way to do it
or just do it
seperate sections for fan works
it makes lb better
Hailee & myself*
you should direct it!
Eeee!!! Maybe
How about Michael Bay? He could add some pretty solid cgi
bad boys/sinners crossover
Yk what people would prob see that š¤£, itād be like bad boys 4 or something except this time they killing vampires
The Smokestack twins have come home.

ļøļøCheck out this exclusive deleted scene featuring the building of the Juke Joint, and watch #SinnersMovie today on Fandango at Home. fandan.co/WatchSinners
Movie is being streamed here tomorrow in theatre 1 9:00pm est and again on June 7th 11:00pm est
Im surprised it wasn't already streamed the second the vod went up
Someone took the time slot I wanted š„². the site I use to find out release dates had this movie releasing may 26th or 23rd so Iād scheduled it for those days, then the site shifted it to June 3rd a week or so before 23/26th, but by then June 3rd evening time slots were taken.
Nooooooonaawwwwwwww

I like how we see him in the background then on the screen
Yes
Apparently tom cruise is gonna be in it
I mean only way you could maybe make it work is just setting it in the 80s with the rise of hip hop and rap w stack trying to deal w the gang of vampires hes made
Thatās fair.

https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSkmG4AQB/ so crazy
Peak ass movie
All timer
I like how this movie came out in like April and this channel still active lol
Shit better sweep at least a good chunk of the Academy Awards
As long as MBJ gets Best Actor
The cinematography, production design, editing, direction, and score all need to be at least nominated too
Yes
Idk what else this year has come out for awards season yet
Itās STILL showing at my theatre itās crazy
This is a huge blockbuster year, not sure much about Academy level movies
Ayo
I mean itās still a month till itās home release
I think everyone and their momma buying a 4K copy of it
I am
Bc my theatre is the only one in the town and it has never played a movie this long
They always rotate and only play 6 movies at a time
Same
We rarely have a movie last two months
Despicable Me 4 did
Cus it was a slow summer for animated movies
And they need to have at least one family movie
It came to the point where I was still uninterested but just said fuck it and saw it in an ugly Spanish dub
I speak Spanish and I was horrified at the dub

Gotta get the word out
If you havenāt told someone to see Sinners yet
Do it
The real reason itās an all timer itās because of everything it does perfectly in a multifacetic way
When Smoke dies and sees his unborn daughter

Facts
Kinda goes without saying but I love how people seem to equally love the Sammie scene and also the Irish jig scene
This movie definitely pays tributes to many cultures and I love it
"They're off to sheave the cooooooooooooorn"
"And leave where I was boooooooooooooorn"
"I cut a stout black thooooooooooooooorn
to banish ghosts and gobbel-ins"
What does it all mean?
š„ How does it tie into the larger narrative of SINNERS?
š§ And why canāt we look away?

defo dressing up as remmick for halloween
Hell yeah
I hope someone out there dresses up as the twins
I think I saw someone dressed as smoke at the horror convention i went to in may
yeah
No movie is more straightforward in its movie title yet somehow both commercial and thematic enough
Itās crazy how two of the best movies of the year so far are blockbusters
Sinners and A Minecraft Movie?
No, Tron Ares & Tron Ares
A Minecraft movie and captain America
