I love a good miniseries, but if it's more than like four episodes then I think it really loses the definition that you would need to be considered a film. I think there is an art to establishing a character and their motivations with in a 2 to 3 hour time limit, where you are assuming your audience has been sitting for the entire duration

True but I still think you can argue that miniseries are just extended movies because they feel more cinematic and could be considered long movies
I can see that, I think it depends on how distinct the episodes are, sometimes episodes will have entirely different production casts or at least partially
A good episode of TV can have a ton in common with a shorter film ya know
Agreed
So do you see them as extended movies because in my eye Films and Miniseries are in the same vein and then tv shows are a different thing
I can see both ways depending on the structure
What about for most miniseries so am I wrong if I am a huge film nerd and categorize miniseries and film together cause o don’t watch tv shows just miniseries because they are basically long movies
Not wrong at all, it's a good take
Like there are 4 hour movies broken into acts so why not
Thanks I fell better now miniseries are long movies
it depends on a number of factors. Many miniseries have clear arcs within single episodes and are not structured like movies at all. Similarly the way cliffhangers are constructed for episode ends.
In many ways movies are short stories (or novellas) and miniseries (and some longer series too) are novels with clear chapter breaks
In my eyes and the eyes of other miniseries are just long movies
as are regular series
No tv shows are different but miniseries and movies are in the same vein miniseries are just long movies
Marker. @tacit mist is on Take 12!
as I said it really depends on the series. There's not much difference between Chernobyl and a season of The Wire or Stranger Things, yet both of those are multi-season works
whereas some miniseries are literally just a movie chopped into a couple of episodes to fit a time slot (See: Hogfather or Fanny & Alexander)
Chernobyl is just a long movie
Yeah so miniseries are long movies in a sense and should be categorized with film
yeah but not every miniseries
Chernobyl has a clear episodic structure for example. I could argue it's more a tv show than Stranger Things
in the case of hogfather and fanny&alexander I believe the dvd version of those were just a movie (or in the case of fanny & alexander there was also a shortened theatrical version)
In my opinion, miniseries are way better than normal tv shows or movies.
I can understand why a miniseries could be seen as an extended movie. They're shorter and tell the story in a relatively short time.
But I've seen several of them and none of them have disappointed me. Movies tend to add unnecessary scenes sometimes, but because the miniseries only has a few chapters to tell the story, they need to be precise and everything that's happening it's fundamental.
For instance, I've recently watched Vigil [2021] (I truly recommend btw). This miniserie told everything in an amount of 6 episodes.
Another example that comes to my mind is Mare of Easttown (2021) it's a mystery miniserie with an amount of 7 chapters.
Anyways, to summarise, I believe that miniseries can't be considered an extended movie cause a movie sometimes doesn't have the time to tell the story effectively and for that we have senseless scenes.
I believe they are but to each there own
Band of Brothers is a nice example of a miniseries that definitely is not an extended movie
I kinda feel like it is.
You can argue that it’s a movie extended into parts
aka a tv show
I ment to say a movie split into parts which makes it a movie
It’s my opinion and I think miniseries are extended movies
but somehow not regular tv shows
Yes
very strange
