I think what Romulus does best is the atmosphere and sound. It sold the idea of a future capitalist hellscape that abuses and causes the death of its own workers without any care. The first 20 minutes or so, you're immersed in the filth and the alarms and klaxons and blinking lights, the endless rain that obscure every sight outside of the windows. The alarm that wakes them up in the morning is just torturous.
It also has some of the best space "photography" i've ever seen in a movie. The beauty and awe and wonder of the cosmos was on ful display, masterfully.
Like you really believe these little shits who were orphaned by Weyland Yutani's negligence would do almost ANYTHING to escape
I completely understand your point, now. The reason it was fine to have the 120 model on the Renaissance, was because the station was ultra classified. I mean, when you think about it, if they were willing to kill the nostromo crew to get the alien back, why would they let so many people reverse engineer it on the Romulus-Remus part of the station? In the opening, theres like a few dozen weyland people in hazmat suits that clearly know whats going on. So it's not impossible to believe that the 120 model was used on the renaissance because they needed a science officer, AND they were all in on it.
The movie is REALLY good in 4DX, too. Saw it on my third viewing
Its possible for sure, but it also suggest that the 120 could have been used in countless other places. thats just an extrapolation though, it seems unlikely they'd make 2 only
I love this image
out the window, just blurry lights, rain and filth
Bishop mentions the models as twitchy so it's not too far out of the realm to assume it was a common model around that time. It's probably that it was easier to flick a switch on it and tell it to do evil shit
Agreed! Beautiful cinematography
Even the Renaissance station wooow
You think the final act would be better if the Renaissance station crashed into Jackson Star with the surviving cloned xenos killing most of the inhabitants š¤
i like the simplicity and alien feeling of the ending. Rain in the cryo-pod with a fade in to space, perfect homage to the original
I wonder if WY let it fall into the rings because they couldn't send a team to go there and secure a xenomorph on time
Anything can happen before Aliens
Nah, nothing would survive a crash like that
Just like the Sevastopol Incident š
it seems odd that WY would let the station go like that, but im not sure how long Romulus takes after the Big Chap gets out
Big Chap seeing his clones "Who the fuck are these guys and why are they so cool"
They probably know about the ship since once an android like Rook can control the ship and send every info to the closest planet
At least he had another fun time before his death
I think it's mentioned that Weyland Yutani has no idea about the space station going dark, because of the big chap and clone attack. Also the entire space station is shut off, and it takes a manual activation from Andy to turn everything back on. When they connect rook, that's when he sends out a message to the company to come pickup the black good on the mining planet. He said they would arrive in 6months
Another interesting thing.... Dragon in Alien 3 clearly eats parts of some of those people As far as we know (excluding the comics) we don't see xenomorphs ever eating other than that
Yeah, it was explained that it was due to it being born from an animal (i prefer the dog version tbh).
I do love the image of the xenomorph smeared in blood
yessssss! so cool
Iām surprised the Cloned Chaps didnāt show once the characters got into the station until their ship crashed probably awake the rest of Scorched brothers
huh?
Yeah once the characters got into the Renaissance station the xenos from the nest didnāt show from the beginning until the main characters ship crashed
I mean, that makes sense
Wouldnve been cool to see them hibernating then waking up because of the crash
With no life forms left to attack or impregnante they'd probably have just gone to sleep on the walls
Yeah, the one that kills tyler is hidden in the wall, Aliens style
Another question I have is what the xenos can do with dead corpses š¤ because the scene when Isabela Merced character was hiding from the Xeno you can see her cousin and sister in law bodies where dragged away from š¤
Which is Scorch
So is possible the xenos can make more facehuggers eggs through dead bodies?
My theory is that they are used to create the hive
The one with the scar on his dome head
Also, kind of yes. In the directors cut of Alien, Brett and Dallas are turning into eggs
So I believe they take both bodies to make more facehuggers
yeah, he's been nicknamed "Scorched Alien", but I just call him Scorch.
š
Yeah, it's not 100% explained, but I guess the mystery of it is what makes it interesting
I think they string up dead people too, but im not sure
make them materials for the hive walls
Ohhh
Scorched kinda reminds me Grid from AVP
I was literally going to mention it, but I forgot his name lol
An Alpha Xeno that lead his brothers
killed two predators on his own. Almost killed Scar if it wasnt for the remaining human
Cheddy I consider the ones from Isolation āthe real bloodline brothersā of Big Chap despite the long legs and tail
i Aliens the entire Hadley's Hope colony staff was strung up in the hive, living and dead. I think they either use corpses as biomass for their hive structures, or its like... saving a potential food source for chestbursters? hard to say
The Chappies
I wonder if the Renaissance know about the Sevastopol Station š¤
it made sense in isolation that It looked the same as big chap because it came from the same set of eggs
I loved this, most people hated it. People thought it made the preds look like wimps, but to me it showed how utterly devestating one drone could be if the Preds weren't careful. You have to assume most of them don't survive their "proving" hunt to become blooded warriors
well, Isolation takes place 5 years before Romulus, so...i'm not sure to be honest
Celtic Predator trust himself so much and left his guard down on Grid due his revenge after seeing his teammate Chopper getting killed
THANK YOU! I don't know whyyyy people were pissed about that! The predators arent supposed to be the good guys, they literally hunt for sport, they are just as bad as the aliens. And it showed that the xenos were actually tough foes. My only issue is that the queen was heavily nerfed.
And in AVP they weren't blooded warriors, they were teens
you don't become blooded until you survive a xeno hunt (in AVP comic lore, anyway)
I didnt like that the queen was 2x the size she should've been and acted like a T rex.
The xenos in AvP felt very dinosaur-y in some scenes
I like her being medium size and spindly like a spider
^ not cool
I barely like that explanation tbh. I thought it made sense that they were adults but had to go through a predator ritual to be respected.
yeah, the drones acted more like velociraptors from Jurassic Park
Ripley and Newt hurry to escape the Station, but the Alien Queen isn't giving up without a fight.
THIS Is how the queen should move
Wasnāt considered as The Matriarch type Queen?
spindly, long limbed, creepy, arachnid-like
Or The Empress?
Maybe, im not sure
AVP isn't canon to the Alien universe anyways, only the predator universe
The difference between Aliens Queen or AVP
For now....
hehehe
Wait till Fede does one
Pleaseeee more faithful to the comic books
Cheddy what Alien comic book you think is perfect for a movie adaptation š¤
I always loved Labyrinth, but it's probably too small scale
bro
i finally watched this movie
IT FUCKS SO HARD
HOLY SHIT
THIS MOVIE IS SO FIRE
REAL
genuinely i love everything about this movie
hell yeahhhh
yay!!!
WOOOOW Kojima likes Alien Romulus
its way over the 2.5x mark so its making MONEY
Almost close to beat Prometheus
i have to watch prometheus now after this movie
prometheus i enjoyed despite it not being flawless, covenant is another thing entirely tho
yay hopefully it beats that shitshow
I just hope Romulus makes a fuck ton of moneys so the studio give Fede another Alien installment and why not a Predator one too...
I would love to see more films of him with this franchise...
AVP
This was pretty great. I don't see why so many people were upset over the usage of AI, it was well done and IMO tasteful. I do have some questions though. 1.) why did whatsherface inject herself with the mystery serum and 2.) how did Waylund Utani lose track of a whole ass space station? Like surely there is an automated distress call on a dead mans switch in there somewhere? And logically you would think this massive, solar system spanning corporation would want to recover their most valuable research station
Like I remember the first time this was done in Rogue One and the reception then was mostly positive. I feel like this has gotten caught up in the general backlash against AI which is mostly driven by luddites that still think these glorified dictionaries we call AI are going to evolve into Skynet
Fun fact there's already a Chinese AI named Skynet... so too late... hehehehe
Isabela Merced character have the worst fate because she was unaware from everything what her friends were dealing with
Thatās why she inject herself with the black goo
for the last few years i have only seen movies in pretty small local theaters
but i saw this movie while i happened to be in toronto for a concert
so i was able to go to a nice theater with a huge screen
and it was frickin awesome
Cloned Chaps
The Xenomorph/Human Hybrid was legit disturbing as hell.
It made me giggle like a madman while having my jaw completely laying on the floor. Was wonderfully shown.
i think having it be more human-like was a good choice
gives it a bit of uncanny valley which makes it creepier
I LOVED this movie. The human Xenomorph hybrid will be burned into my brain forever. It was so creepy and the actual Xenomorph in this movie had such a cool design
As much as I want Romulus to make as much money as possible so Disney can quickly green-light a sequel, I donāt think itāll surpass Prometheus numbers (maybe, honestly who knows lol)
At least was the Highest grossing Alien titled movie
- severe pain mental anguish, thought it would help, super dumb choice while pregnant when just saw an alien pop out of your friends chest, that then killed your incest baby daddy and attacked you. and that Rain, the only coherent human at the time, already was highly suspicious of
to answer your question; movie
What did I just read
I have no idea my brother
Okay so originally Rook was going to be a female character š¤ woow so is true it really was Ridley Scott idea for Ian Holm return
Woke ridley making captain hook hotter than he already was
andy?
his voice definitely changed when he was reprogrammed
i think he always had an accent but it was harder to tell with the stutter
Get ready guys for the prequel comic book
We definitely gonna see Big Chap last fun
Hmm so I might have misremembered a bit
Did he change it from an American to a brit , did he ?
Previews was released it was Big Chap
I wonder what actually wakes Big Chap up, if they manage to damage it without him waking up, initially
You didnāt see what I post right
Rook was trying to get his DNA and that manage to awake him
the hand then flops down. It seemed like it was a post death reaction - like the facehugger in Alien
That pregnant chick fucked her cousin
In space no one can hear your cousin s(cream)
š
yup
Sweet home mining colony Jackson's Star.
brb gonna increase my rating of this movie
Go up to a hot lady at the bar and say "Hey cuz, wanna play Romulus?"
"Lets make a Zuckermorph"
My ā ā ā ½ review of Alien: Romulus on Letterboxd https://boxd.it/7lIyXT finally wrote my review. Anyone else here feel like this film needs a directors cut or something?
This is a good film that's held back from being truly great by a few shortcomings, I really feel like there is 20-30 minutes missing from this film that would solve a lot of it's problems, so I am hoping maybe we will see a directors cut of this movie at some point down the road. Now that I've front loaded that bit, onto the review. So audiences...
I do feel I could like an extended cut
Havent write my review yet lmao
and I saw this the weekend after it came out
Like an extended scene where Big Chap awakes?
alien romulus is a five star movie for me
probably the best movie i've seen this year
My father told me was like āall 4 movies into one but somehow they manage to do it well unlike most of filmsā
Yeah, its like a sampling of each one
https://vt.tiktok.com/ZS2xfawv5/ mad cool
The Asylum
strikes back
like with...
they probably used the same artist for both posters
lmao
similar style
Fuck yeah
oh no
AVP reference Cheddy š
them teeef

Cheddy soooo because the substance from dorsal tubes on the xenos, thatās why they can create a nest and putting themselves on a cocoon like Big Chap did?
Just a theory, but it adds up
I figured they excrete from their mouths and dorsal tubes. Would explain how some of them stick to walls without even using their limbs
might help them regulate temperature, might help them carry eggs/facehuggers
Ohhhh just like Aliens
they drool till cocoon?
damn them Xenos need some napkins

maybe a bucket or something idk....
Lmao
WOOOOOOOW
"the highest grossing horror film of 2024"
didn't feel like it had much competition.
This is just like a thriller tho itās not explicitly horror
Is sci-fi horror with creature feature elements
Yeah I kinda getting annoyed at ppl saying is "more of a thriller" than a horror movie
Feels like its the type of viewer than think only "supernatural horror" is horror
I classify movie genres by what letterbox says
Could be more better if was more Xeno looking than Engineer

Lb really bad at it tho
but i think even Lb recognize Romulus as horror
Interaction completed
Director: Fede Ćlvarez

More action horror
yeah fr
I mean Alien 1979 is a horror sci-fi classic
Aliens 1986 is an action sci-fi classic
Romulus is a mix of both
with even a bit of Resurrection there in the third act
I fail to see how is not horror
Not just both but from all 4 Alien movies
Even Alien 3 because this scene and the 20th century studios opening style
this scene?
My father told me ānothing new but surprisingly a love letter to all the movies even AVPā
He right you can see Fede love the previous ones a lot
We need Aliens: Remus hehe š
Me fr fr lmao
Freaky ass dude
kinda looks like an engineer on meth
It looks like its copping a feel
Thereās more apparently was going to be like the original script from Alien 3
that would have been pretty cool o.o

Itās horrible
Extended scenes š
Guess what I will be rewatching when it comes out on streaming š
Nice
I want both regular and 4K steelbook
My ass will buy it all
Can it also buy it all for me too?
Lol
I am gonna get regular probably but just cuz i am broke
lol
The movie deserves the 4k
I personally feel like unless I get a side by side, I probably won't notice the difference between a normal high definition and 4K
My eyes cant make out the difference between 4k and regular nowadays
Watch Alien in 4k. You'll be able to tell
its implied that the girl was pregnant by her cousin
somehow i missed that
But isnāt like they arenāt really cousins tho
Old news

couldve used better art but sure
Not a fan of the white cover myself
Red or Black imo would've fit way better
Yeah agreed
peak
I watched Alien: Romulus last night and while it's a significant improvement compared to Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, I felt that there was a lack of xenomorph screen time by the end of the movie
The number of characters is also too few, just a small group of young adults
I know it was intended to be on Hulu and smaller in scope but still has feel of lacking more xenomorphs and characters
The CGI of Rook's face / head could have been better but it didn't bother me too much
Everything else was on solid to good levels - 7.5/10 from me
Rook was the worst part for me
pandery fan service that would have been bad even if it looked good, but it looked like ass
That was Ridley Scott worst idea ever originally Fede Alvarez script was meant to be a female character thatās why the role was for Phoebe
Instead Ian Holm
Much better
Ohhhhh Cheddy so when the temperature goes subzero it can make xenomorph go into hyper sleep or hibernation
yeah I also didn't like that part
Wym? Makes sense for their species
Another reason how Big Chap went on hyper sleep while he was in space
hibernation in space after getting throw out of the airlock, in vacuum, without any source of what organic life needs to sustain themselves (including hibernation) ?
Well Big Chap cocoon himself
And he was sleeping inside like many years until they found him
Definitely the Queen from Aliens have the same ability as Big Chap
yeah, I don't like this direction of explanation or excuse
somehow they can make themselves cocoon in time while in vacuum of the space
we don't care about temperature, we don't care about atmosphere, we don't care about cosmic radiation, we don't care about resources needed for organic lifeform to sustain themselves in space and etc
Rook says that that xenomorph was for a decade in space
Thatās the line from Ash āThe Perfect Organismā the xenomorphs can survive on any environment except fire š„
yeah... more like lazy writing finding barely convenient excuse
I'm glad that Alien: Romulus ended up being successful and I understand it was constrained by initially being planned for Hulu
It sounds you really hate Romulus
but I hope for the sequel they don't use cheap excuses
I really like it
I like Romulus, it is one of the better Alien movies, just specific things really seem out of place and make story less appealing
I also like the Cloned Chaps, they also share many similarities like his passive behavior, curiosity, intelligence and also a stealthy killer
I generally thought the main antagonists were going to be the Big Chaps from Isolation
Many possibilities they could survive after Sevastopol incident
I'm really not bothered by the Ian Holm appearance at all. It looked wonky but they had the blessing of his family so whatever
āALIEN: ROMULUSā releases on Disney+ on November 21.
Read our review: http://bit.ly/AlienTHH https://t.co/Y3ZfihOxvk
Hot dude
Blu Ray when
December, 3
i will be buying
The Bluray WILL BE MINE
i do remember thinking it looked weird when watching it in theaters
didn't really bother me though
All I remember is it looked 10x better than what I expected after seeing half the population ready to give up on life for how seemingly nightmarish it looked
It was weird at best
yeah it just looked weird, but not distractingly bad or horrendous or anything
Glad you didnāt hate the nostalgia, Cloned Chaps, action and Offspring š
Im glad it didnt have a Joss Whedon script
Romulus is basically like Resurrection but way better
Cloned Xenos
A old character back from dead
Human hybrid
Thatās how Resident Evil reboot should be using Hunters, Dogs and Lickers
I just want a good RE series based on the early games š¦
Season 1: RE1
season 2: RE2
A movie based on 1996 original and 2003 remake
Treat it like a dark, serious, suspenseful horror film, not a "game movie"
I have full on scenes vividly imagined in my head x.x
If you added Lickers in the first game adaptation thatās a fan service right?
I say YES
š¤š¤š¤
Crimson Heads would be OK
and you could tease how they will mutate into lickers, but full blown lickers, no
Ohhhh I remember thereās a theory about Crimson Heads and Lickers
pretty much confirmed by Outbreak
The hotel level has a number of young lickers, and the boss is between the Crimson Head and Licker state
this thing
Ćrale š
its never outright stated, but it seems VERY implied
Excited to re-watch this with way better visuals. Cuz yeah the Rook look was dogshit
Keep Spainey, no Alvarez.
I love my queen.
Hey guys
What if this much fabled "Yvaga" that Rain wants to go to is in ruins?
Like the ||Green Place|| in Mad Max:Fury Road
That would be in character for the Alien franchise
