#Best actress of all time?

Idk about all time coz I liked several actresses in several films. Emily Blunt (A Quiet Place), Cate Blanchett (HTTYD 2 etc.), Amy Adams (Arrival), Sigourney Weaver (Alien), Margot Robbie, Elizabeth Moss etc.
When it comes to Indian, I'd pick my personal fav Tanya Maniktala (TVF Flames). Not like she's the only one but she stood out with her performance in Flames series.
Marlene Dietrich? And fwiw, Marilyn Monroe wasn't too bad
Of this generation, Cate Blanchett and Emma Stone stand out
Sally field
interesting choice
Well, it’s easy to pick an old school classic Hollywood actress that everyone’s heard of. But if you really take a full body of someone’s work, the versatility of their roles, the evolution of their craft, from the time they were young until the time they were old, I even think it should be considered the crap that they’ve had to deal with in life outside of acting. Also, their character and integrity… I mean in a world where it’s almost impossible for there to be one objective best… It sort of has to come down to favorites.this is reasons why I choose her.
If we were considering their lives outside of acting and their character and personality, then my choice would still be Katharine Hepburn lol
There's this one series of interviews Dick Cavett held with her in which you can really see her assertive and distinct personality flower up, and I've been smitten ever since watching those interviews! She explains quite a bit about the difficulties she faced as she came into the spotlight as well, coming from this like very small American town. But as to versatility, it does seem like she plays the role of herself in almost all the films she's in, so that might make me reconsider my opinion but for now, she's the (disputed) top of my list!
Old Hollywood actors were not really method actors as far as I know (Marlon Brando being the first?) So knocking anyone for their lack of versatility seems like a bias in favour of The Method. Just a thought. I could be wrong.
My answer is also Katharine Hepburn. The first movie i sawed starring Katharine Hepburn is Bringing Up Baby in 1938. she was perfect in that role, like she can handle comedy too. But not only Katharine Hepburn. Audrey Hepburn is also my fav. I watched Roman Holiday and that was awsome.. but the first name comes to my mind when it comes to greatest female legends is definetly Katharine Hepburn..
A coincidence how the two share the same surname
thats what im also thinking:]
both the Hepburns should have made a movie together
would have been one of the greatest things in existence
ngl
Liv Ullman is one when it comes to acting she has perfect acting skill with direction from Ingmar Bergman
Frances Mcdormand, Naomi Watts, Isabelle Adjani are some of my favorites
Those are some very respectable picks there
Jodie Foster
Fair
All fantastic picks here. I’ll throw Jamie Lee Curtis and Aubrey Plaza into the ring
I don't get the love for Aubrey Plaza but I'll still accept it lol, to each their own
then again maybe I should see more of her work to understand better
I really love Olivia Coleman and Maggie Smith.. among other of course, but they jump into my mind for their versatility, range and iconic characters.
tilda swinton
You definitely should, she’s fantastic
I don't have just one in mind, most have their styles they excel at. Things like in a drama, sad release - ones capable of varied types of crying and realistically. Some playing evil roles where they truly stand out as a villain. etc
She's wonderful.
