Sure itâs family entertainment
But you can kinda see where Disney hasnât allowed the darker episodes to happen
Also have a slight feeling Billie Piper as the 16th Doctor might be slightly misleading
Like the credits just credited her as âIntroducing Billie Piperâ
Sure we saw the regeneration happen but if reality is cracked itâs possible Rose got back to our reality and switched places with the Doctor
Though thatâs only a theory
Also what happened to sad endings
The past 2 seasons have basically had the âHappy Ever Afterâ treatment
Sutekh and Omega both kinda got done dirty
Technically McGann is shortest tenure for a Doctor lol
He would probably be the second shortest unless Colin Baker was only 13 eps?!?
Oh he was 35 eps damnnn
Technically the 14th Doctor has the second smallest run
Personally we need longer episode count, ideally Disney budget either cut or spent to make more episodes on a smaller budget, and shifting the focus back to what NuWho and Classic Who was for, a wider audience appeal than what these last two seasons have been which is extremely child focused Sarah Jane Adventures styled
Even though SJA actually had scarier eps than anything from Ncutiâs run
Seriously?
Apparently yep
Some mix of him being on a spinoff, being created by a different writer (who is now a disgraced transphobe and wonât share) etc
Ohhhh Gareth fucking Roberts
Thatâs the one
I thought they made him sell the rights up
Thatâs the one thing Iâll defend Russell on lol
Thatâs a shame
Everything elseâŠ
Hence why the character can be mentioned but probably never be shown
RTD 2.0 really making Chibnall not look as crap
Shocking but also somewhat true
Both somehow have a tendency of writing horrifically bad finales
Though I wonât lie
This was somewhat set up in The Day of the Doctor
With what the Curator said
That the Doctor would return to some âold favouritesâ
Basically written into the canon that yes we are going to do nostalgia bait lol
Belinda just got the Martha treatment
Itâs funny kinda how much certain ppl moan about the progressiveness and âwokenessâ of a show that is practically incapable of writing black characters
The Nigeria set episode was slightly different mainly cuz there was a black writer on it
I think the core problem is people wanted a proper change from Chibnallâs tenure
Instead we kinda stuck in a retread of RTDâs former tenure
Which is kinda playing like an American remake of Doctor Who
Andddd to top it all of
None of the âshowrunnersâ will actually undo what the former showrunners have done/created
Like most ppl loathe The Timeless Children episode
So just retcon it đ
Except that Martha had an actual character. she might have been stuck being the lovesick puppy, but she played a super important role in the finale. she walked the world. she always got stuck in on the action and had actual angst and growth. Belinda was just there.
True I quite liked Martha but they both share the problem of an abbreviated and shortened run as a companion
Companions kinda need a longer run to actually establish themselves better
I'm not sure I would agree. Donna only had one series and she was amazing.
True
It just comes down to writing tbh
Despite me hating Chibnall, Yaz was a great companion and it just took some time to kinda develop her out
I wouldn't know. I never watched much of 13
So you basically came back to Dr Who for the 14th?
I mean fair enough
But thatâs half the problem
Piper and Tenant are both stunt casting basically
Itâs a shame how they both kinda sandwich another iteration of the Doctor that was pretty undeveloped
The guy deserved at least one Dalek story etc
From what I was reading itâs unlikely weâll see another season of Doctor Who till 2027
yeah, the plan is for a break
Have a feeling itâs going to be a longer break than planned
Only the tides could have kept them apart.
The War Between The Land And The Sea is coming soon to Disney+.
For more updates, subscribe to Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic.
Disney+ is the streaming home of Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic, and more. From new releases to your favorite classics and ...
yeah, figured I would at least try it
Was intrigued but I think the redesign of Sea Devil is pretty terrible
I have no opinion
Itâs also being written by Pete McTighe
Which if I was a betting man
This guy seems somewhat set up to take over from RTD
Whenever he ends his tenure for the second time
Iâd kill myself
McTighe is worse than Russell
So youâre not a fan of his amazing 13th Doctor episodes

Theyâre friends so itâs just a hunch I get tbh
Heheh
It seems to be the criteria for Doctor Who show running
-be friends with RTD
-write terrible conclusions
-fanboy over Classic Who
By fanboy weâre talking Wattpad level writing fluff thou
đ
Think we need a Tony Gilroy type character to take the reins of Doctor Who
Itâs weird for a show thatâs kinda to rebrand and reenergise itself how stale it all kinda feels
Iâm not tolerating any strays hitting Moffat here
Heâs the best we ever had
Moffat was great but again the fanbase loveee to be toxic about him
Like what did the man do that badly wrong that RTD and Chibnall didnât do wrong
He kinda works out as being the lesser evil đ
Also notice how the finale of S2 practically hinged itself on Moffatâs concept of The Time Hotel lol
Itâs like RTD can you just write something that isnât recycling your old ideas or other peopleâs ideas lol
The Girl in the Fireplace and Blink are probably better than most RTD and Chibnall episodes tbf
Moffat is far and away the most progressive and intelligent of the three
Silence in the Library also pretty outstanding
People call Moffat a misogynist but heâd never pull that Belinda shit
Amy had a pregnancy and baby arc but she wasnât shelved because of it
I meannn River Song still got some bad treatment from Moffat but nowhere near as stereotypical and boxed in as Belinda was
Did she?
River Song was pretty multi-faceted
Flirty but also romantic, cheeky but vulnerable deep down
Only she was never really a wife imo
I personally liked River Song
For Moffat, marriage isnât a death sentence
Amy doesnât leave the TARDIS when she marries Rory
River has multiple seasons of solo adventures after marrying the Doctor
This shouldnât be radical, but for Russell it is
Thatâs true
Heâs kinda hyper focused on other progressive stuff I would say
Itâs not like he isnât a woke writer but his focus is more on the flamboyant stuff
I loathe how every single Shirley scene is about someone being ableist to her
Like
Ok we get it
But positive representation also exists
Show her being fabulous, not marginalised
Positive representation would be surely having discussions outside of that
With her character just being and feeling accepted within society
Exactly
Like with Rose Noble
They basically just bring them in when they want to talk about non binary identity
They donât just let them be themselves
Which is just pretty basic tbh
Theyâre still a fun quirky character but rarely are they meaningfully used
On a side note
I also donât get why the show isnât getting a higher episode count
What makes that so hard nowadays compared to even Jodieâs run when we did have 10 eps?
don't know if we're getting a christmas ep this year
but if Piper is around for just one ep, that might be acceptable.
Rumor: The original ending involved all mainline characters celebrating winning the battle that we see in the episode. This scene would have included Susan overlooking the group from a distance, teasing her return for a future Season. In this version of the episode, 15 does not regenerate.
Reshoots took place earlier in 2025 after Ncuti Gatwa made the decision to leave, which is when the ending we got was seemingly shot. Everything involving The Doctor, Belinda and Poppy in the house was a reshoot, along with the TARDIS regeneration scenes and some of the final scenes in UNIT tower.
Overall, it seems that a bit of a spanner was thrown into things once Gatwa ultimately chose not to continue in the role. RTD scrambled to come up with a new ending, which resulted in Susan's cameo being cut, among other things. Billie Piper's casting must have only been decided in the last few weeks, as it wasn't originally planned to have The Doctor regenerate at all in this story.
I don't necessarily blame Gatwa
The BTS has been a total mess, and Disney aren't totally wrong to want to pull out given how middling the ratings and reception have been
I find this highly believable
Thatâs crazy but explains the rushed jarring nature of the conclusion
Itâs a shame considering what his third season could of been
I think we wonât tbh, 2026 Christmas might be more plausible and possible thou
If Gatwa left abruptly though that does mean any of RTDâs longer term plans for Gatwaâs run must be completely thrown off tbh
Itâs been a weird season though slightly like you bring back the Fugitive Doctor and Jodie đ đ
I hate how much they've fucked about with the canon
started with entirely rewriting the Doctor's origin (which there is an arguement to be made about the regeneration limit), but then there was returning to previous actors, bi-regeneration, and just general fuckery
Me too
Agreed
Itâs beyond ridiculous
Despite everything I loved 15's Regen. It was so joyful and really beautifully shot
The music was amazing too
I thought it kinda looked cheap to me
Which would make sense if it was a very last minute reshoot/add on
My personal feelings is if weâre getting a S3:
- the Disney deal needs to be voided cuz they arenât a good producing partner, Bad Wolf Studios are great on their own as proven by the earlier seasons plus they made His Dark Materials which was an amazing co production with HBO so the problem is Disney (how much of a sway in what RTD is creating because theyâre making it with Disney nobody really knows)
- go back to NuWho roots, instead of literally saying âweâre not doing old Doctor Who villainsâ then including 3 OldWho villains, youâre kinda alienating NuWho fans who donât understand the breadth of the lore which tbh the lore is as messy as the current state of the show is
- RTD needs more guest writers: guest writers as they always have done have brought unique and diverse perspectives to DrWho and tbh it feels kinda stale and too tonally in the middle lane when we just have one or two writers writing a batch of episodes. Itâs probably why a lot of ppl here enjoyed the spectacle of Eurovision episode because that wasnât a sole RTD script. Also scripts need to have more revisions, half of the pacing issues are coming from them and the other half from horrifically terrible editing decisions
- the main thing for me would be to have at least one iconic villain face off, we need a Dalek/or Cyberman or Weeping Angel type episode but not to the point that the show just makes episodes around them, variety means adding them back into the mix instead of just using new creatures and some OldWho lesser known villains . And to have that we need more episodes, the bare minimum should be 10 episodes.
Now that itâs been like 3 years since a Dalek has appeared, 4 years since a Cyberman has appeared, you should be able to bring the iconic ones back without feeling like itâs just another nostalgia brimmed story add-on
Most fans of DW watch the show to have a scare, a fun adventure, some social commentary and a good time, weâre just lacking what the core ethos of the show was recently and they need to find a way back to it
Im glad Jodie and Ncuti got a scene together, but at the same time it felt like 2 actors lamenting the terrible writing they both walked into
what a clusterfuck, 2 mainline doctors in a row, total clusterfuck
now Rose is the fucking Doctor... just seems like theyre wildly grasping at straws at this point
I mean, is she though?
I donât really believe that Russell knows
Thatâs the problem - the trust is gone
I donât believe that they have a plan for any of this
ah, i didnt pick up on that. i guess theres a glimmer of hope. it just seems theyre trapped in telling new ways of regenerating and not focusing on new stories (that we actually care about)
i mean if theyre gonna revisit the past, have the Doc visit all his/her old companions at the moment he/she left hem to go on one last adventure, new companion every week
or just write seasons with longer episode counts so the characters mean something to us, but i dunno if the viewing audience or producers have the patience for that
i think regenerations are happening way too often
this whole every 2-3 years thing is way too much
regeneration should be a big deal and should provide a chance for a new and preferably unknown actor to give a fresh take on the character
not a way to nostalgia bait the audience every year and a half
lol tbf
Wasnât it like 7 years Tom Baker was The Doctor
About 5-6 years for Peter Davidson
Either the show needs to go on a very long hiatus or it needs stability
But Iâm not sure RTD is capable providing stability
Longer episode count would actually help imo
Essentially the 8 episode season is
6 episodes on the main arc
1 episode of Doctor Lite
And 1 episode of Monster of the Week
Thatâs kinda the problem
We arenât getting the variety that Doctor Who used to provide
When you also bare in mind
Ncutiâs second season
Had arguably two tonally darker episodes
And six light fluff family episodes lol
It just doesnât work
Well kinda
Lux, The Well and The Story & The Engine were all totally standalone
The Robot Revolution and Eurovision were 90% standalone
Lux played into the Gods stuff so itâs not completely standalone
Eh
Technically so did The Story & The Engine
Thatâs like saying an episode with Cybermen canât be standalone
Well it isnât
It is
Thatâs different lol
The Gods are just a new kind of monster
Not really
Daleks, Cybermen, Reality Gods
Gods was the arc of 15th Doctor
What was the arc
He had to face the new threat cuz of the 14th essentially retiring cuz of Flux PTSD
Well I guess weâll see with the 16th
My personal opinion is the Gods âmonstersâ will become less prevalent anyways
Lux wasnât continuity heavy at all though
Whether Iâm proved right and wrong I donât know and neither do you
Itâs totally self-contained
Babes I think youâve read the tone wrong - Iâm just chatting
Had a few brief albeit fleeting messages to the other Harbingers
Ah thatâs nothing
Thatâs about as continuity heavy as Dr Who saying he has two hearts
The story is a standalone piece, with a one-off baddie
Fairs
And yeh thereâs always been that split tbh
Itâs weird how much this new Ncuti run was linking back to Classic Who
Like Iâm mainly a NuWho fan so bringing back The Rani, Omega and Sutekh didnât really do much for me
Even bringing back Rose as whoever (Bad Wolf I half anticipate) doesnt make enough sense to me
I agree
I donât really get the thinking
Especially considering in the press release for S1 they were trying to attract 21-30 year olds to watch it
Like no 21-30 year old is old enough to remember Classic Who lore
No 21-30 year old is going to particularly enjoy going back to watch it either
Sutekhâs story is good
The Rani stuff is pretty consistently terrible
Ainât she basically a side villain in Classic Who or smth
Never seen her eps
I went back to watch the old Sutekh arc, pretty charming and cheesy but I enjoyed it
Had some pretty cool ideas
Exactly that
Sheâs just a generic scientist baddie in two really weak stories
She doesnât have iconic moments or anything
Sutekh at least has a great voice and look
Itâs very weird
Tbh
The ending of this recent season would of been great had they gone for the worst scenario
A new Galifrey was made
Earth becomes extinct
Rani becomes the main villain for the third season
But essentially they cut off rushed a conclusion cuz Ncuti wanted an exit
Thats crazy
the background fuckery of the last 2 seasons will bite this show in the ass for years to come
Now, via Barb, the seven-day ratings for Wish World have been confirmed at 2,856,000 viewers across the week.```
ouch
This represents quite a fall in viewers from the 3,754,000 who watched the previous week's Interstellar Song Contest episode, although it is worth bearing in mind that these were the highest figures across the series thus far.
yeah, no way is Disney coming back for those numbers
i think that parting ways with disney would be best for everyone involved
they did better when they had less money and more episodes
keep the budget lower, it's ok if it looks like a cheesy tv show
have 12 episode seasons again and compensate for the lower production quality by actually writing good character-driven stories
The budget has allowed for some great practical effects and puppets, but the writing has been so crap. Good sfx should be the cherry on top, not the whole cake
And I hate big budgets anyway. They kill creativity.
I mean, just look at Blink. I know its the best Who epiosde of all time (and rightly so), but the concept of the monster was so simple and budget friendly - they can't move when you look at them
In most of The Satan Pit 2-parter, the monster was just a voice and a feeling of dread.
The Family of Blood spent it's budget on period costumes. The monsters basically possessed people or were dressed as scarecrows.
The Unquiet Dead had aliens in the gas.
that's the point i'm trying to make, when they had less money it forced them to be creative and tell interesting new stories
now everything is just "lets go to a big cgi planet and kill a big cgi god in five seconds, oh btw youre a mom now"
I also realised that one of the really big things missing from Ncuti's run was mystery. They used to spend 3 acts building up to the reveal and then ultimately defeat. Now everything was revealed after the first 15 mins, which is probably why the pacing felt so off
They really needed more episodes
Great episode thou
You know what I miss
Just sayingâŠ
Also I swear the Face of Boe was a big character for S3 but never has it really returned since then
becasue we know who the Face of Bo is. That mystery was solved.
True but still was a fun character
Back when Dr Who embraced pratical effects/makeup more
my biggest problem with the Doctor regening into a former companion is, why not Adric? Dude was a kid when he died, if anyone deserves to live again its him
Probs cos the actor is shit
theyd obviously recast. but, its not like they have a plan at all
just throwin shit the wall at this point
Tbf I donât think itâd help the situation if Ncuti regenerated into a random child who started calling himself Adric
I think weâve got bigger problems rn
i dont think so either, but if the doc was gonna regen into a previous companion (tho it should never ever happen), it should be the one that died as a kid
It should be Clara cos she was the best
if we were going by the best it should be Nardole, but it should be no companion whatsoever
lol https://gizmodo.com/doctor-who-reality-war-recap-regeneration-ncuti-gatwa-billie-piper-2000609768
Its a good article.
âWish Worldâ and âReality Warâ together as a whole represent a vision of the show at its most creatively cowardly. A companion that challenges the Doctor? Out the window for a one-note character to be discarded and defined by a singular motherly trait. The return of classic villains with something to say about their place in the modern era? Smoothed over, cut short, discarded as emptily as theyâre introduced. A bright future of new promise? Only old faces, old ideas, reheated and re-delivered at the expense of wasting a generational talent.
Its like if Ncuti stayed for another season
Would these Classic villains had a larger role to play
Also I read smth
This spinoff that they did
Basically made them cut the main season episode count to 8
So without the spinoff we could of had 2 seasons of 10/11 episodes
Doctor Who Preschool Animated Series in the works apparently
Idc if it means the main show is allowed to be more mature again tbh
Also been making the rounds that Disney is dropping Dr Who after S2 however there are other co producers interested in the show (itâs looking like Paramount+ or even HBO Max)
They knew Disney were likely dropping out ages ago
They were waiting for confirmation either way, which is why Gatwa left
He wasnât waiting any longer for a possible recommission
HBO would make the most sense creatively and because most of nuWho is already on HBO
Gatwa left because of commitment to it
And no doubt the toxicity of DWâs fandom doesnât help with matters
He left because it was taking too long to re-commission
Thatâs the entirety of it
Ummm no thereâs more factors
But you do you
When youâre read most of the current reports youâd know that itâs not just scheduling issues
Thereâs creative issues too
I agree
Thatâs just speculation
They also were a silent partner to my understanding
Just handled distribution rights
If we're lucky HBO will get it and we can start referring to the last 2 seasons as they shitty Disney years and forget about them
What we do know is that Gatwa couldnât take other jobs while the show was in limbo - Bad Wolf had hoped that Disney would renew after Series 14, but when Disney decided to wait until after Series 15 (or even later - they still havenât made an official decision), it meant BW wouldnât be able to start shooting until late 2025 at the absolute earliest. In the meantime, Gatwa would contractually have to keep himself available for a six month shoot that could come at any time.
Basically, heâd have had to turn down jobs without knowing when heâd even get to start shooting again (and if Disney didnât renew, it mightâve ended in a pay cut after those months of delays).
Heâs 100% right for leaving in terms of his own career
There was no guarantee of when heâd get to work or how much heâd get paid, and he had to turn down film roles for it.
Fingers crossed
Also Winston had a question
How âscaryâ is the Curse of Fenric arc?
Iâm tempted to dip into it
And honestly that season was a bit odd in how the direct reference to NuWho was basically Jodie, Fugitive Doctor and then Rose/Doctor?!? and Midnight?!?
Whereas ClassicWho fans got Omega (for 10 seconds
) and The Rani
Itâs rlly good
Not scary imo
More just dark
i binged classic who so fast (3 months or so) that i cant really recall, tho i know most things dont actually scare me. show me the craziest horror movie and my pulse wont rise in the slightest
Cool
Haha fairs
Have I annoyed you
Oh slay
The BBC is bringing Doctor Who to CBeebies for the very first time with a brand new animated pre-school series now in development! Designed for the littlest viewers, this show will follow the Doctor on timey-wimey adventures through space, solving mysteries and making new friends along the way, with just a few alien challenges, of course⊠đđŸ
This spin-off will run separately from the main show and aims to introduce the magic of the Whoniverse to a whole new generation. â€ïžđ
Patricia Hidalgo, Director of Childrenâs and Education, shared:
âEveryone is welcome at CBeebies, including the Doctor! Itâs only right that younger audiences get to experience the wonder and the magic of the Doctor in a brand new format.â
đĄ Animation studios are now being invited to pitch, we canât wait to see who picks up the sonic screwdriver!```
just a bit more detail
i was gonna say the same thing
i wonder which doctor it'll be
david tennant has done voice acting work, i'm just saying...
I saw someone say it could rotate
Which is a rlly nice idea
i wouldn't mind that at all
You donât know which Doc youâll get until the episode starts
The Thirteenth Doctor in⊠âThereâs Something About Ptings!â
Very Looney Tunes
accurate
This would be amazing but I doubt heâd get the chance to actually showrun
i kinda support RTD being in the dark
now they just need to switch from Disney to HBO, get a new showrunner, and theyll be on the road to recovery
i wonder if this will be in the christmas special: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/doctor-sold-matthew-perry-ketamine-plead-guilty-1236293110/
yeah, if any Doc would be a ket dealer, id imagine itd be him. or maybe the 2nd
4th doctor looks like he's on ketamine lol
lol this show is getting buried for a few years
I doubt we get more Doctor Who until 2028/2029 tbh
This preschool series they greenlit is definitely filling that gap but like not for classic and adult fans lol
heh, Capaldi...
i tried to read it and got called out đ
the 5th Doc is correct. its been this way ever since Capaldi left
This show has so many random actors
I just watched Time Heist and Jonathan Bailey was in it lmao
Was gonna ask if Ncuti was the shortest serving Doctor but remembered McGann only had the one movie
but he didn't officially regenerate for, like, 12 years or something. So he's technically the shortest and the longest, I think.
Iâm still rather taken aback heâs already gone. I know the show was getting hit with some low ratings and such but I didnât see it as needing to get Ncuti out and swap him with Rose Tyler lol
you cant blame ncuti for wanting to leave
the show is in a state of limbo rn
they thought it would get picked up for another season right away but it hasnt
and if ncuti had stayed on he would have to keep his schedule open so that if or when it gets renewed he's immediately ready
meaning he wouldnt be able to take any roles for a couple years
Well hopefully it was down to that. Iâm hoping not to hear about there being some bts bullshit Ncuti had to deal with
there wasn't
he just decided to leave after the show wasnt renewed
his departure was done via reshoots only like a month before the episode aired
although who knows what the actual experience was like, 9th doctor pretty famously hates RTD
that just wasnt the reason ncuti chose to leave
I think Ecclestone has softened a bit now. I don't think it was hate, exactly, but they did clash a bit and Chris realised that Who wasn't for him.
wasn't the whole "doesn't she look tired?" thing in Tennant's first episode some sort of jab towards Eccleston?
"On 11 June, 2005, when asked about his feelings about working on Doctor Who, Eccleston told a BBC interviewer: "Mixed, but that's a long story". Eccleston's reasons for leaving the role continued to be debated in Britain's newspapers: On 4 October, 2005 Alan Davies told The Daily Telegraph that Eccleston had been "overworked" by the BBC and had left the role because he was "exhausted".[20] Eccleston later stated that he had left the show because he "didn't enjoy the environment or the culture that the cast and crew had to work in", but that he was proud of having played the role.[21] He subsequently said: "My relationship with my three immediate superiors â the showrunner, the producer and co-producer â broke down irreparably during the first block of filming, and it never recovered."[22] Eccleston said that The Daily Telegraph's quote was partially falsified, stating that he "didn't find [the job], physically, too tiring. When The Telegraph said that, any other producer reading that would go 'Oh, no, we can't employ Chris Eccleston because he gets tired.' So, it was a lie."[23]"
(Iâve heard Ncuti was responsible for bts bullshit for a lot of the crew)
Wasn't Eccleston shorter?
I just finished watching Kerblam, it was fun but did 13 just flat out kill Charlieđ
The emotion this guy feels hearing the news of Liz's death is so sad đ.

IT HAS FINALLY HAPPENED, MURRAY GOLD'S DOCTOR WHO SCORES ARE ON INSTAGRAMđŁïžđ„
We are one step closer to the Series 10 soundtrack I can feel it
Soooo thereâs been some updates regarding DW
BBC basically come out and said we will be continuing DW with or without Disney
And that the spinoff airs in 2026
So that puts the main series probably returning either Christmas 2026 or Autumn/ Christmas 2027
comepletely destroying any momentum they might have achieved.
I'm really interested with who they'll get for showrunner
My guess is RTD is still running the circus
Unless RTD said he is leaving?!?
People may dislike Moffat but at least heâs somewhat more consistent than RTD and Chibnall
He didnât make Orphan 43 or Space Babies
I think it would maybe breathe some life back getting a new showrunner. Davies doesnât seem particularly interested in continuing
Just hoping nothing negative comes out, it would suck to hear anything like Ncuti having a terrible time on the series, explaining why he left so soon
I mean, the obvious answer is that his star was rising and having an uncertain shooting schedule was detrimental to his career
Doctor Who needs an all new showrunner and a de-emphasis on it being for kids.
I need Doctor Who episodes that gut punch me, fuck this kid shit
But, you know, hiring a showrunner that actually likes sci-fi would be a good start
Hiring a showrunner who actually wants to explore the Doctor Who mythos would be cool
My guess is The War Between the Sea and Land kinda have to bomb for RTD to go
And thereâs probably a reasonable chance that will happen lol
i completely agree
doctor who is at its best when it gets dark
well, sure, but the abruptness kinda gives me some pause. Like, to me I put the chances of there being drama at like less than 5%, but typically they like telling the audience "The Doctor will be regenerating" to get a ratings bump and fuel some excitement over who'll it next be
I think from what I've heard, everyone was willing to continue except for Disney. And without Disney, the future suddenly became uncertain. And added to that, the very cool reception the eps have had, I don't blame Ncuti for wanting to jump ship.
There doesn't need to be any bts drama for his exit reasons to be logical
But yeah, the ending was super rushed and very poorly done
I donât think the last two seasons have been received particularly well
The BBC expected RTD to essentially revive Doctor Who for the second time
But itâs still kinda limping along
it's just also alot more of a toxic culture nowadays. Having a black queer actor playing The Doctor immediately makes bad faithed actors cry woke and alot of people stop watching
which is really too bad because ncuti himself was like the best part of the new seasons
he is such a great actor with so much charisma
(Eh)
but his stories (especially in season 2) were just not that appealing to me
Yup
For my money, Millie Gibson is the best actor they landed in the new run
73 Yards is the best ep across RTD2, and so much of that is on her performance
thats not ridiculous to say
Even when she was demoted in S2, she still gave it so much
Some quality facial expressions
they need to go back to hiring relative unknowns as the doctor who can be seen entirely as the doctor and dedicate long periods of time to filming full seasons
so many episodes barely had ncuti because he is just busy
when you only have 8 episodes and two or three of them dont even have the doctor its hard to get connected to the character
And also film additional stuff! Matt Smith was popping up on Blue Peter, at the Proms, he was doing video games and audio books
Up until Gatwa, the role was as much a brand ambassador as an acting gig
Gatwa showed up, filmed a handful of episodes and vanished again
yep
i dont know what happened but it really does seem like RTD has lost whatever it is he had that made nuwho so special
I think he got a bit arrogant
Thought he could come back and instantly be as successful
A tribute to Patrick Troughton.
All the clips in this video have been taken from youtube videos (excluding Doctor Who Anniversary Live 2013 which is from the internet archive) and are credited in-video. I do not own any of the clips in this video. Doctor Who is owned by the BBC.
that's what happns when you shoot two seasons back to back
I'm sure if they'd actually stopped between the seasons, there wouldn't have been an issue (and they could have come up with better stories)
If they stopped between seasons it would of been easily a 2 year gap between seasons
Saw a really good video the other day that really pinpointed what's been wrong with Who since about when Clara came along... The focus of the show became less about the companions and more about the Doctor.
Those early seasons (Rose to the Ponds) were focused on seeing the Doctor through the companions eyes and lives. But then came Clara who was a plot device before she was a character. She was a mystery for the Doctor to solve, and so the focus shifted to him. And now the companions are so bland they're just interchangeable and would have zero effect on the stories.
I am once again ranting about doctor who

embded fail, but this was the video
thats honestly a really good point that i hadnt thought about
It's a combination of this and the fact that the show no longer knows how to do exposition.
Doctor Who: The Highs and Lows of Exposition
Exposition can make or break a story - and Doctor Who gives us some of the best and worst examples. In this video essay, we break down how Doctor Who handles exposition across different eras including Silence in the Libraryâs brilliant setup and The Reality Warâs painful info dumps. We'll see how ...
lots of valid points in here
and (and this is a newer issue) EIGHT EPISODES JUST ISNT ENOUGH
god, it's painful
when you have 8 episodes, and the doctor isnt even in 2 or 3 of them, and every episode feels like some huge world-ending thing, its impossible to develop characters and make the audience connect to anything
too much budget
let us have low stakes filler episodes that just let the audience grow to like the characters
i completely agree
there was a noticeable transition when doctor who stopped feeling like tv and started feeling like a series of movies
and it was right at the start of the 13th doctor's run
and the really frustrating thing is that RTD is a great writer. But he can't do Who anymore
which is when most people agree the show started to decline
i have no idea what happened but he seems to have lost his touch
it seems like disney may not continue funding doctor who, and i think thats the best thing that could happen to the show
i want it to continue with a way smaller budget so that they have to go back to relying on clever writing and smaller scale character-driven stories
Preaching to the choir, my friend
I feel like RTD just doesn't have the same passion like he used to
and lets be honest, he and David T were or became really good friends. I'm not sure I've felt the same connection between him and Ncuti (though admittedly, I have barely seen any BTS)
i think they need to go back to hiring relative unkowns as the doctor
i love ncuti and i think he was a great choice
but he was just too busy to commit to the role
the show worked great when they would get an actor who could completely become the doctor and commit to the role for a few years, and then pass the torch and move on to other jobs
but without that commitment, its just impossible to get attached to the doctor as a character
The only thing i liked about Whittaker's run were her companions. and poor Gatwa only had maybe 4 solid episodes out of his 2 seasons
it needs completely new showrunners, no Chinball, RTD, or Moffat
Theyâre always weirdly late with the Capaldi era music releases
Waited forever to get hold of the Heaven Sent tracks
fresh off the press
not shocking
and tbh entirely expected in many ways
i guess 2026 Christmas Special will be the reboot of the reboot of the reboot
and that
*that's a very tight turnaround
shedding disney is always welcome news, but keeping Russel T? hopefully thats only for 1 christmas special and going forward it has a new showrunner
and by new, i mean a human who has never once written for the show
And a human who actually can write sci-fi
I donât want another Chibnall
Oh god no đ
I feel like BBC will try and partner up again with another creative thou
Like all they need is Bad Wolf personally
They set the groundwork back in 2005
They know how to do the style
They just donât seem to have managed to get back to the roots properly
RTDâs lost his touch thou
Literally why bring back The Rani and have them taken out in such a terrible messy way
new writing blood and more episodes. or if not more episodes the entire season needs to be about the same thing
True
I just hope theyâve learnt a lesson in the writing and production partner department
Now we can get the show back to being British
Disney kinda fucked around with the partnership
Sorta forced Ncutiâs run to be cut short because they couldnât decide whether they want to create more episodes
thank god, without disney maybe they'll actually rely on good writing again
have more episodes with more smaller stake stories that actually get us attached to the characters
I would hope that the smaller budgets means back to basics solid writing
But it also feels like everyone ran out of ideas a long time ago
Sounds like 10 episode structure is coming back from the scoops
Also sounds like Billie Piper wonât last that long
Basically a cameo appearance then will see the true 16th Doctor reveal
probably for the best
thats what im hoping
RTD's gotta go
we need fresh hands on the series
Why are they seriously keeping RTD staggers me
Literally he is the Kurtzman of Doctor Who
thats a sick burn, but i agree lol
I meannnn theyâre besties too soo yeh lol
Thereâs even a crossover with || Doctor Who on Strange New Worlds btw || (spoiler to New Trek)
they just seem resistant to change
i guess cause the show itself is basically an institution they treat it like one
Itâs the BBC I feel
Like they basically had massive studio interference from Disney for the past two seasons
But the BBC arenât much better
They obviously wanna the run the show in a set fashion and not deviate from this RTD long course
Thou I wonât be surprised if they rush out this âThe Bossâ arc tbh
My guess will have the answer in the Christmas Special next year
Like it feels equally the studios and RTD are at fault
He should be taking on feedback but I donât feel like he is
When youâve lost about 75% of your audience you should be looking at changing course
Pretty sure Tenantâs era was about 10-13 million viewers
And weâre down to 3 million nowadays
Perhaps
And probably the wrong way of treating the show
It should be constantly reinventing itself
But it doesnât and hasnât done for ages now
Iâm trying to think of the last good series twist DW actually pulled off lol
Itâs been a while
I would say the bi generation twist was good but it was so poorly executed and quite a messy contrived conclusion
Which didnât conclude anything
i honestly havent loved the show since Capaldi
Capaldiâs era is probably aging like fine wine rn
I say that as a naysayer of that run
But yeh he did have some pretty awesome episodes
I guess it was just such a tonal shift from Smithâs era for me
Like Matt Smith was quite a comedic doctor and then you have Capaldi whoâs a lot more dramatic and theatrical
And serious in turn
i kinda liked the more serious turn for the Doc. Heaven Sent and World Enough and Time were great gut punch epis
id love it if the show could be a bit more adult. i mean kids are way more grown up today than theyve ever been, theyd probly appreciate it too
all new showrunners, more episodes, more adult = saving Doctor Who imo
You say that but thatâs the big thing with Ncutiâs run which makes zero sense, they basically said it was the best perfoming show on IPlayer for the 16-24 demographic
But that new run is sooo childish and not even catering to the whole family it doesnât really make sense
Capaldiâs run was kinda better for tweens/teens for sure
Lol exactly
Thereâs so much you can do within that 12/PG-13 rating tbh
True sad end for Bill, but definitely one of his best
I would rewatch Capaldiâs arc
But honestly canât beat Eccleston on rewatch value
Still doesnât make sense how RTD lost his touch
Cuz back then every week was pretty consistently great
Aside from
everyone loses their touch eventually. songwriters run out of melodies, showrunners run out of good ideas
What RTD looks like after coming back to Doctor Who perhaps
True andddd the BBC are too reliant on older proven showrunners
Well every studio is
Doctor Who literally lends itself to big risk taking
Make the budgets smaller for each ep, make more eps and perhaps get rid of this showrunner complex
Go back to the exec producer model instead
And honestly I would take a return to 4-6 x 25 minute eps per arc and do 4-6 arcs per season
Literally solved the massive issue
1000% needs more episodes. Cause when the Doc refers to Ruby as his best friend yet theyve only known each other for 2 episode its like... huh?
Exactly
Thatâs the point if they made each story instead of 40 minutes of rushed plotting and ran it over 2-3 eps you get such a stronger story
Thatâs why recently back to Capaldiâs arc
You might disagree
But thatâs why Extremis works
Itâs first part of what works out as being a 3 part narrative
And you just get a lot more character work that you would of not gotten had it just been a 1 40 minute oh hostile religious alien order yadda yadda
But yeh itâs simply theyâre rushing too much
And then because theyâre rushing thereâs no build off or meaningful payoff
Like Sutekh just being cast into that vortex meant nothing because Sutekh barely felt like a threat
might just be a product of the time. lots of people simply dont have the patience for good character development. everyones watching distracted, so they need everything spoon fed and probly wont even start something unless they already know most of the character motivations
True perhaps itâs old fashioned of us to expect more from
Who might be entering its nuTrek phase where the good eras wouldnt be profitable in todays world aso they have to slash episode counts and rehash old characters
Trek for me was best in the 90's... 26 hour long episodes a season. that simply couldnt happen now
Tbf I only started with Nu Trek because itâs easier to access arguably
And bc itâs structured in a way where I donât need to know what happened in Deep Space 9 to understand something in another season etc
I think modern audiences get uppity over having to invest more time in shows
cause theyre trying to take in a story while at the same time refreshing an app on their phones
True so less phones and weâd get better entertainment again
i mean im as screen addicted as anyone... im literally looking at 8 screen right this moment... but when i watch something i tune 7 screens out
Iâm still giving 70% of the blame to RTD
Peak
fr?????
is that in the new season?
There was always one very bad episode a series in those first years.
Tbf thou one bad one and twelve good to masterpiece episodes kinda works out a lot better on the ratio
But also, I can still find some merit in Love & Monsters. Fear Her on the other hand is irredeemable.
Fear Her has Huv Edwards what do you mean
Nah Fear Her is probably the most forgettable DW episode lol
The War Between The Land and Sea just been confirmed for a December 2025 release in the UK
(My guess itâs gonna be in their Christmas to New Year week slot as a kinda DW event)
Probably daily episode drop I reckon too
seems likely
interesting analysis.
Metro also has an interesting article on it basically says RTD needs to go
âŠ
Got a feeling this wonât be the spin off most Whovians were hoping for
hmm
i always forget this is coming
I think itâll probably be quite good
The last time Russell wrote an adult drama set in this world, it did alright for itself
The BBC doesn't have Disney money, but I'm pretty sure they'll still shelve out a decent budget for Doctor Who regardless
The Whittaker era had some insanely impressive visuals
Looked way higher budget than the previous seasons
what i have heard is that the budget will be about half of what it was before, which is still quite a lot of money
money definitely wont be an issue, but it will be nice to see what they do when they dont essentially have unlimited funds
Yeah no that's still a lot
And maybe we'll have normal episode amounts again
Like a 12 episode season
Instead of the 8 that everyone's obsessed with it
I'd love to see Naomi Ackie in the role of the Doctor ngl
i would freakin love a 12 episode season
wait you're cooking
I think Doctor Who just needs fresh blood, not RTD, not Moffat, DEFINITELY not Chibnall. We need someone who's a fan of the show (so they don't blow up the lore like Chibnall did) but also someone who'd bring a fresh vision to everything
Dude imagine Edgar Wright directed DW
i completely agree
the newest seasons are WAYYY too connected to the original mythos though
We need someone who's really into Sci-Fi too and not sci-fi adjacent stuff. DW is at its best when it toys with science fictional concepts imo
i think theres a way to do a "soft reboot"
require zero previous viewing but still be the same continuity
That's probably what Gatws turning into Rose is
Imo they could do Rose doctor for the special, then just have it be completely new
doctor who is at its best for me when it isnt afraid to get a little dark
New Doctor, new cast of companions, maybe have them face off the daleks and cybermen some where
and yes it is a sci fi show
Doctor Who needs to be a monster of the week show again
i dont want a bunch of gods and mystical stuff
and cmon ncuti never faced even a single dalek or cyberman
Dude when DW was a "what sci-fi problem are we solving today" show it was so good
That's what a lot of 10, 11 and 12 was
13 was kinda that for the first two seasons
frrrr
i just want to see 12 episodes of the doctor and companion getting stuck in some new sci fi predicament and the doctor has to figure a way out
I'm not saying Doctor Who shouldn't be serialized but maybe have it just be overarching again instead of multi episode arc
yeah the whole flux thing kinda ruined 13
im not against a slowly building overarching story
but with ncuti it felt like every single episode was some big massive-stakes event
honestly the best episodes of each of his seasons (boom and the well) were the episodes that arguably had the smallest stakes
Ironically enough some of the best episode of the Gatwa era was when it was him trying to figure out a sci-fi problem
And also that episode on the ship with the midnight entity, that was awesome
the well
Yeah that one
that episode was so good
That one was awesome
That's a callback done right
Especially with how Gatwa imitated Tennant
literally his best episodes were these small stories contained to one area where its just the doctor being smart and solving an interesting sci fi predicament
Cause Gatwa had the charisma to carry too
Like the Rogue episode was awesome
Dude I loved him and Jonathan Groff
That entire episode was FUN
and they never really addressed it again! We just see him again in what supposedly was possibly him but we don't know
It would've been amazing for Rogue to be a companion but maybe the doctor having a gay lover companion would've made the bigoted fans lash out đ
I mean it almost happened with Yaz. Which is what they confirmed thanks to that WONDERFUL bit with Whittaker in the finale
gatwa is such a good actor and i loved his charisma from his very first appearance
literally got so wasted in this show
I was in love with how RTD wrote Whittaker for just those few minutes, it made me happy but also sad because I know she would have THRIVED if she just had a writer who knew how to write her
Whittaker didn't have a lot of moments of being genuinely angry until the Timeless Child stuff
BRO 13 WAS SO GOOD IN THE LAST EPISODE
Smith was probably one of the angriest doctors to me ngl, surprisingly enough
i was so happy to see her back even briefly
Smith's seasons had such an adventurous tone to them lol
I loved them
They were what got me into Doctor Who as a kid
I just loved how silly some of the Smith episodes were
That's what doctor who should be imo
Unpopular opinion but I actually really loved the James Cordon episodes because they were basically what I like the most about Doctor Who. The Doctor showing up to some random person and solving their sci-fi problem lol
I felt a burst of serotonin as soon as I saw her
RTD really brought out her playfulness excellently
It's funny, because Whittaker's doctor was always someone who was empathetic and very energized and happy all the time, but had a dark undertone to her that she bottled up, she never really knew how to properly show her emotions.
And RTD displayed that perfectly in one line, "I should tell that to Yaz"
And Ncuti going "You never do."
Even when "The Fam" was splitting up, 13 didn't even really know how to properly express her sadness at them leaving.
i really like the 13th doctor's personality
her episodes were just so boring for me
i skipped a lot of them
ended up just looking up the most important ones and only watching those lol
Which was the only thing it had going for it đ
The 50th was probably the last great episode for me.
World Enough and Time and Capaldis last epi are my 2 fav epis of classic or nuwho
Much much uglier than the Capaldi era though
Expensive cameras are useless if you donât know what to do with them
You just end up with sludge in high definition

some reviews are out and its a lot less negative than I personally expected
whilst im not expecting an amazing spinoff, its not looking as bad as it could of done
but this could simply be down to the fact we are getting 1 story in 5 episodes
its getting a load more space to work with than most recent DW outputs
i made this meme on my phone the day that article came out đ
punctuation is so very important lol
man Capaldi was so amazing here. No music at all needed, just him talking
has any episode of classic or NuWho ever properly explained why the Master hates the Doctor so damn much? If they did I dont remember it as i think i binged it all too fast
The War Between is quite good
oh, is it out?
First two episodes
I'll wait till it's all out
Tbf this is the best Doctor Who product in ages
Actually shocked how good it is so far
But then again itâs more adult Who and I think this should be the direction for the main show too
As well as allowing stories more episodes
Episode 4 is awful
I liked the first few
Ep4 feels more kiddy than the main show - big tonal shift
not sure what you expected from RTD
The last âadultâ spinoff of DW gave us Children Of Earth
Heâs also written great political sci-fi dramas before, like Years & Years
Itâs not sci-fi but A Very British Scandal is great too
Tbf it also gave us the other 3 seasons of Torchwood
Not saying they were bad, I'm on season 1 and I'm liking it, but Children of Earth seems to be on a whole other level compared to the rest of the show
well yeah, it came last, you know?
Last episode sucked
As is traditional with RTD
Lol true
2 Doctors were there too
Literally canât write finales
Also The War Between the Land and Sea is basically DW Avatar
Just all feels very lazy
Not sure why you all hated the ending so much? I thought it was fine
I will say the relationship between Salt and Barclay was underdeveloped.
we didn't get to see enough of them together to really warrant him running off into the ocean with her.
Just a bit anticlimactic
Though I heard hasnât seen that Children of Earth had a similar ending
Idk I guess subdued endings arenât what we expected considering the build up
It just fizzles out
Barclay be a fish
well, what was the other option? How else was it going end?
true
with things like this set on earth, the only outcome is going to be whatever re-establishes the status quo, just like in Marvel films.
I meannn yes
Because it was only ever going to be one season
And they made it pretty clear just how disconnected from the main DW show it was
Interesting article again
I think Capaldi has got the issue spot on
RTD needs to leave cuz this Whoniverse fuckery is pretty much his delusion of grander ideas and trying to make DW into a blockbuster filmic series that it shouldnât be
Honestly this Christmas Special this year I feel is going to make or break DW further
part of the charm of DW has always been its ambition to tell these big sc-fi stories on tiny budgets. Its scrappy that way. Sure, the effects might be a little naff, and the CGI unconvincing, but that rarely mattered as the writing made up for it.
big budgets are death to sci-fi shows like this
the smaller the box is, the easier it is to think outside the box
creativity thrives on limitations
I've always said that
