As the title says. It could be based on several factors like critical acclaim, box office success(doesn't need to be a blockbuster), and timeless classic

i guess this is going to favor people with short filmographies because more movies is more chances to make boring ones. and because more movies takes longer to see them all. i cant say Kurosawa because i've seen around 10 of his movies but theres still 20+ more and they could all be terrible for all i know
so i'll say Kubrick just to get it out of the way
and then i'll say Satoshi Kon because he died after directing only 4 movies and i think theyre all huge bangers.
i'd also say Tarantino. love him or hate him or his approach to filmmaking, i think with all his stuff he pretty much made almost perfect versions of the movies he was trying to make
