#what makes a good doc?

part of it for me is the source documents. like the BBC's ww2 doc, The World At War. its made of i think 100% primary sources. radio broadcasts, newspapers, real war footage, and interviews with soldiers, civilians, politicians on boths sides, even up to the guy who was like Himmler's chief of staff. no recreations, just all real direct stuff
documentaries aren't my thing but the few I've liked does a balance between their interviews and surrounding footage. I've only liked RBG, Changing the Game, and Feels Good Man just because their subjects were really engaging.
Deep research is always a big plus, also ones which start at one place and end up somewhere unexpected like Icarus
@lost rune @median egret @quick moat thank u for the comments u guys are dope 🤝 much appreciated
Documentaries are great when we get to hear it from people who have experienced the event or had a personal relationship with the person and how their perception is different from each and other tells us how one event affects people around in so many different ways
definetely agree with this too thanks for commenting 🤝
An underrated factor in a good documentary is editing
Accuracy mainly. Also if it isn't super slow paced or cheesy.
