I just recently watched a Space Odyssey and to be Frank with everybody. I rated it a 3 out of 5. It just didn’t hit home with me. Felt dragged out and kinda far fetched with some scenes. Why is this film so highly regarded?

You gotta remember the movie released in 1968.
The visual effects in that movie were groundbreaking for its time.
I would say its a pioneer to the modern day Sci-Fi genre.

I think it is because Kubrick was the first to show a story in a realistic portrayal of space something that has not been done during his generation.
Storywise yes it is not something groundbreaking (except the bone to spaceship scene which is cool) but the cinematography and scenery are imo very good

I'm glad people made movies intended to challenge attention spans. Sci-Fi is a good medium for this, no?
