#tired with how movies are unnecessarily politicized

The hype over Barbie, which definitely seems to be a millennial feminist take on the beloved toy, has people being critical of it before it comes out.

Like I’m noticing particularly YouTube movie reviewers are either loving or hating the film based off their politics, rather than like…the actual movie?

Same goes for everything else. Like I was not surprised when Critical Drinker recommended Sound of Freedom but trashed the latest Spiderverse flick over Peter Parker being not “manly” enough for him

Is America that polarized people can’t just enjoy movies anymore?

unfortunately, right wing nutjobs use the internet heavily to indoctrinate clueless young people.
every one of these movies gives them another chance to dupe more poor kids.
Movie is feminist -> "hey yeah, i've been told the definition of feminism is hating men so i'll hate all women to get even"
Character is black now -> "hey yeah, they're taking things that should belong to someone who looks like me, and giving it to other people who don't deserve it because of 'diversity'"
LGBTQ character exists -> "hey yeah, queer people interfere with my ability to think of all women as sex objects who exist to gratify me. it would be better if they weren't around"
one idiotic tweet about the latest 'woke' movie, with a bunch of bot likes and replies to make it seem like a popular opinion, is all it takes to skew some teenager's worldview. poor kids are getting steered toward a lifetime of ignorance and hate just because Captain Marvel wasn't a very good movie, or whatever.

Some people it bothers, some it doesn't. But most hollywood films now are highly politicised with certain messages being funded by companies like netflix for example

Yes, I'm a teen and I know so many of us that trash on movies for political reasons, then when I ask them why they tell me that it was a youtuber that gave them that opinion. The worst part though is that shitty movie critics like the critical drinker overexaggerate their opinions on a movie because they know an extremely radicalized review will get more views than an actual real critique

I watched this video essay it basically sums up how I feel, it was mainly about female roles in movie, its saying that its not audiences hating female characters, it's audiences hating poor writing for female characters, it's actually making a lot of sense

there is an audience who hates female characters in general but theyre just conservatives/right wingers

i might not be understanding the dicussion, but i think art is always going to have political input. it reflects today, how the artist feels, and what's going on in the world around them that inspired them to make the art. as a result, any audience member who is themself heavily politicised is going to have a reaction based off of the politics of the film. i feel like it's a pretty normal process of art to get politically driven responses

Ah, but it's not politics if I agree with it!

Happy M&F reacting correctly to this clown comic. Not worth engaging with OP as this smells more like shit post, then hey let's talk about it.

I hate politics in my movies. Thats why my favorite movies are 12 Angry Men, Do the Right Thing, Taxi Driver, All the Presidents Men

Acknowledging the political angle of a film is different to just dubbing a movie as bad or good based on where in the culture war you can put it.

Critical Drinker can just shut up sometimes. He is right about the problems with Hollywood most of the time, but he is waaay to (No pun intended) critical and overemphasizes some of the issues he has. Personal opinion, but if you want reviews that get to the point and don’t get, again, critical and overemphasizing, I would suggest Karsten Runquist. It’s just chill, straight to the point reviews
