The Entity was a pretty bonkers MacGuffin ngl

I think the Entity definitely was behind that bomb

Given the team's last adventure with nuclear bomb disposal it definitely chose that just to taunt him

That would be fun

I liked how Ethan shows a lot of his inner goodness to people he barely knew in this one

Reassuring the young courier that he made the right choice to join the IMF, asking Grace if she's okay after her car gets wrecked, showing kindness to Paris before she dies

And I also did like how Ilsa sacrificed her life to save someone who was practically a stranger to her even though she didn't have to

Because Gabriel was just about to kill Grace and therefore would've spared her, but she still chose to risk her life because it was the right thing to do

Maybe the first half was a down payment

Like, "I've already gotten the first half, just wait for me to get the second"

I think with a bit of manuevering he would've gotten the key even if Alanna sold it to Kitteridge

Finished Dead Reckoning

Will have to mull over some depose thoughts when it’s not 0330am but Cruise and McQ definitely done it again - fantastic film. Not Fallout good for me, and probably behind Rogue Nation too which is my second face. Closely tied with Ghost Protocol after first watch.

Agreed airport sequence was brilliant (may be a little impartial as I worked on it 😉). Love return of Kitteridge and all the new characters.

The same thing happened to a lesser extent when they’d mention 5th Gen Fighters in Top Gun lol

The opening Kendrick scene in the intelligence meeting was superb

I should probably start with the weakest aspects but yeah, this being a part 1 hurt its pacing a little bit. Idk if its because I'm already used to the non-stop action of the previous movies but this one had enourmous chunks of exposition. At least the action sequences balanced things out ig.
I also didn't love the fact that ||they killed off Ilsa. Maybe she ain't even dead but gee idk, she was severely underutilized in this movie||
While I loved Benji and Luther in the airport sequence they really had nothing else to do for the rest of the story, which is a shame because I love them both lol. I suppose they will have a bigger role in part 2, but idk I was expecting more from them

Don't get me wrong I do love Grace but she kind of had too much screentime for a new character

I do hope that Part 2 delves a bit deeper into Ethan's backstory

But every film before Rogue Nation was the director's look and feel. 1 was about as De Palma as you'd get for a studio blockbuster, 2 was Woo unleashed, 3 was Abrams to a fault in how the characters all interacted with each other, Ghost Pro had that Brad Bird playfulness throughout that honestly wasn't all that present in the franchise beforehand

The Entity seemed a bit ridiculous in my opinion, but it’s a serviceable plot device to further the story.

Loved Hayley Atwell’s character, but very sad to see Ilsa go. Man, why’d they have to kill her off?

I was also wondering how Fast X and this movie used the same location in Italy, and I think both has similar action sequences with that staircase.

But Mission Impossible does it better.

The AI-part granted a whole new dimention to the film, felt near post apocalyptic, albeit a bit too close to home.

It's fairly ironic that the cliff jump scene felt like a product of CGI. Duno if it were due to the fact that they rendered a cliff edge that just looked off, or the sheer proportions of the jump

the only gripe I have with the fantastic action sequences was when Cruise somehow navigated himself straight into the lap of the guy that was gonna shoot his co-star. Very Sellers-esque somehow.

As of this movie, Tom Cruise is now older than Jon Voight when he was in the first Mission: Impossible (1996) (Voight was 57 at the time, whereas Cruise was 57 when filming initially started, 59 when it finally wrapped, and will be 61 when it's released).

Also, the fact that no one noticed the White Widow lady's eyes suddenly being brown is a big suspension of disbelief.

I think ATSV ended on a cliffhanger much more than MI 7 part 1 though like that's the main complaint people had about spiderverse which is that it ended abruptly.

The Entity has multiple possibilities and one possibility obviously would’ve been Kittridge completing the sale and getting the key

These are huge movies and this may result in many people not watching MI 7 repeatedly which many did with Maverick. I think it will cross 600 million dollars though as it is doing quite well in foreign markets.

hollywood doesn't really know how to implement tech stuff into movies

thats the main complaint

action was fucking phenomenal

but in a way this makes the first mission impossible stand out even more

you can clearly see the french suspense vibe it took from movies like La Circle Rouge, Samourai and Le Trou

tech was presented in a way that makes sense in the first couple movies

but then this here AI coming in here taking over an entire nightclub to show its face on the screen and having it be embedded into a fucking watch

it just seems very comical

the entity didnt feel like a big threat to me because of those things

Yeah, in a series that has already done that “mastermind 10 steps ahead thing” which can be annoying and unrealistic in some movies, here they really just went with maybe the most accurate version of a character that literally can think 10 steps ahead

And it fits perfect in a nice silly action movie

It is all subjective but I can never understand someone saying this movie is boring.. like if this is boring (because there's some dialogue scenes in it), what is not boring?? Some people have such short attention span these days.

I just think people don't have the paitence for thrillers these days.

The "spy thriller" element isn't the big stunts and fight sequences. It's about building tension, about not knowing who to trust and trying to figure out the motives of the other person. It's about detecting the lie, finding the crack and using it to your advantage.

But this one definitely required you to actually pay attention to certain scenes to make sense of it

When I went for a rewatch, I could feel the audience getting disgruntled as the dialogue and scenes kept going at the start

And therein lies the problem.

It's less the patience of the audience and more to do with the dialogue itself. While I'd argue De Palma's film and Rogue Nation put stock into how the spy elements read off the page, here they are unfiltered exposition dumps. They only really work because of how well they're directed (the way the camera glides through the scenes reminded me of LotR and other blockbusters of auld).

I agree. The exposition scenes were much longer and heavier in this movie, since they had a longer runtime this time I suppose

But they were well compensated with the action pieces so I have no complains there
