#đ„The Flash

If I was James Gunn
I would fire Andy from the Brave and the Bold movie
Nothing personal, its just based on reception
That is catastrophic đł
âTHE FLASHâ earns $130.1M in the filmâs worldwide opening weekend.

This ain't good
The movie was simultaneously interesting and frustrating. Giant, boldfaced mixed bag if there ever was one.
Ya and I don't think it is gonna have legs
Itâs either that or âhe gave notes so itâs his faultâ
Cause apparently notes means you completely rewrote the film
Itâs hilarious they harassed the fuck (harassment itself wasnât hilarious of course) out of Jennifer Holland because she was in a decoy post credits scene that ultimately wasnât even in the Final Cut
Theyâll just take an unearned victory lap in that âwe got it pulled!â
Any Snyder fans reading this:
HOLD DAT
đđđ
Rip Snyderverse
đŹđŹđŹ
Rest in piss
You wonât be missed
Rip bozo
Honestly it could have peaked at this
Nobody watched that lil bro
If they didnât do multiverse
I did
its slightly below tracking but its not terrible
LOOOOL no way
but the tail is not gonna be as long as it probably needs.
What it was tracking was already bad
Its Black Adam all over again, but with a China release
140 tracking isnt really bad
Itâs in China already?
Yeah
this is actually doing better than guardians 3
It needs the Sean Gunn cameo
Thatâs crazy then
You know I laughed at The Rock but honestly looking at The Flash Black Adam couldâve bombed worse
Wym đ
Guardians 3 did open kinda low, but the thing is⊠May had like zero competition
vol 3 did 118M
Fast X took top spot but Guardians was not that far behind
and yet it made more money?
fast x didnt exactly bomb?
It did
Fast X bombed
dissapointment isnt a bomb
It needs 800 million to break even
no, thats not even close to the budget listed
Paramountâs only saving grace now is a man named Tom Cruise whose like 64 years old đ
Fast X had a 300 million dollar budget
And a 100 million dollar marketing budget
Oh my bad
It had a 340 million dollar budget
It needs 840 to break even
The 100 million dollar marketing cost
Marketing budget
marketing does not cost half a billion
thats not how math works?
We need twice as much as we spent
thats not how you recoup your investment
thats not how math works
you break even when you hit the amount you spent
double that just means, double the amount you spent
nope, thats not how math works
We arent making shit until we make 840
no thats not how math works
if you spend 5 you dont need to make 10 to earn it back
Because we recouped our budget, but we didnât get any more money than we spent, we in fact got less money
Getting past the break even point means we got our money back with more money to spend
They should be happy, snyder verse is canon
nope, thats we got exactly to the amount we spent
do you understand how math works
Hell yeah I do
clearly not
An A is no laughing matter
So lets roll it back
Spending cash and recouping the cash
I have 5 bucks
I invest it into a movie
That releases
But wait, I have to market it
you recoup your money by making 5 back
Lets spend another 5
Thats 10 I spent on a movie
Lets release it
Now it can get past the 10
But I need it to get to 20 for a specific reason
movie marketing budgets costing as much as the movie isnt really a thing anymore
nope stop thats not how it works
Because Im getting my money back, but Im getting lackluster funds
thats where your math is bad
No it is. Super Bowl commercial airings are expensive af still
ok but "i didnt make good money" isnt the same as not breaking even
thats not how math works
Box office disappointments still cost studios lots of money
Not to mention digital advertising on YouTube costs quite a bit too.
Because they effectively lost money even after making the budget back
yes because studios often dont cop to the whole budget
And with the amount of Flash ads on YouTube I and many others saw Warner definitely spend quite a bit
thats not how math works
At this rate.. Will flash even make 300 million dollars?
probably
They need double of what they spent to make their money back to pay for the damn movie
but not much beyond that
To get their money back
thats not how money works
It ain't making 600 million dollars
thats. not. how. math. works
Damn Flash might bomb worse than John Carter
nothing can be as bad as john carter
The theatres take one third of the money too
that movie almost sank disney
They need to pay for the movie, get their money back, and make a profit
Thats how the box office works
- Making the budget
- Breaking even
- Making profit
ok but "pay for the movie" is getting their money back
We cannot make a profit without steps 1 and 2
stop theres no extra step to break even
Well The Flash ainât getting any merchandising money from third parties like Lego soâŠ
thats not how math works
You forgot marketing budget
hes not
hes saying even after that, you need to make double your spend to break even
Fast X had a budget of 340 million dollars
which isnt how math works
Then an additional 100 million for marketing
So we rest at 440 million dollars that we need to pay for
Lets drop it in theaters
If it can get past 440
We made our total budget
To pay for the damn thing
ok so youve broken even
YOU DID GET YOUR CASH BACK
The break even point is what that is
đđđ
How disappointing is DC's THE FLASH debut? With $55M, it barely grossed more than 2011's GREEN LANTERN, which dropped with $53M.
It gets worse.
Adjusted for inflation...GL scored $71M.
140
Thats our cash back
THATS NOT HOW MATH WORKS
Anything after that is additional profit
Fast X is at 650 million dollars, not even close to its 840 million dollar budget
it wasnt 840M
Effectively losing 140 million dollars
stop adding numbers in randomly
Oh my bad
The math is not mathing bro
Effectively losing 190 million dollars
Like how much do cars cost, 840 million is absolutely bonkers
Man this summer has been a bloodbath. And itâs only beginning
We need that 190 million dollars to get our own cash back
i need you to think real hard, what do you think profit is
Profit is anything past the break even point, which is double the total cost of the movie
Bro is confused đ
nope
break even is the cost
its not double the cost, thats a 50% profit margin
We are using wikipedia now?
i mean you basically invented new math so yes
thats an estimate based on costs the studio wont publicly admit to
thats not the same as saying break even is twice the cost
BROS USING WIKIPEDIA đ
again, bombs are much worse than just losing money
Also the 2x rule doesnât mean much now. With inflation and some studios unreporting money the new multiplier might as well be 2.5x
Next fast isn't gonna have cars to save on budget. Just gonna be them sitting in chairs making car noises with their mouths
hes badly misusing the rule also
hes implying that to make back your investment you need to earn twice that
Even if you profit 50million over break even itâs still profit
The point of which we can start making money
Fast x needs to make 850 million to be even slightly profitable
Thought I came into the Fast X channel for a minute
Often they don't put marketing costs into budget on Wikipedia dude
Mando lay it on these folks
i think its still not quite as bad for the flash as people are saying here, but its not the monumental 1B plus hit they wanted
Itâs really bad
The Flash is very expensive for a movie
They wanted 700/800m
Uhhh no. Flash is bombing HARD
And this is the numbers theyâre getting
Theyve been sitting on the flash for YEARS too
Thats a cost of 330 million, including marketing
130 for the opening weekend isnt bad
Are they paying to claim these movies losing money are actually not that bad
Every movie they release theyâd want 1 billion but Iâm sure they have targets lower than that which they would like to reach
the cost is 200 not 330
WE HAVE TO INCLUDE MARKETING
The issue is flash is going to drop hard, everyone is mocking the cgi
the studios dont include it in their accounting
This movie was marketed a shit ton
Thats where the fancy numbers get into the damn thing
The fact that the Flash survived but Batgirl got axed. Honestly Warner just shouldâve axed both.
That opening is horrible for a movie of this calibre
And Blue Beetle is gonna bomb too.
Literally less than Black Adam
if you dont know what the marketing cost is, you cant just slap 100M and call it a day
Just the dog Falling during the credits is etched into peoples minds, it's SO BAD
2, the studios rarely publicly consider that part of their calculus on this
they literally dont
Not pocket change!
they literally do not
Thats the money they invested into the film
yeah but they never admit that
Thats why profit points are super high
Because they spent money on marketing to make sure it gets money
Trust me bro they actually wanted to lose hundreds of millions, itâs good for business I promise you
are you people not familiar with hollywood accounting
budgets are rarely what they are
IM TELLING YOU THE BASICS
It's bizarre how much better Shazam 2 is than this film
and studios often hide the ball on how much movies make
This is how movies make money
Good thing weâve got Sherlock over here to correct it for everyone
Youâre 12 tho listen to the elders
I think Shazam was a lot more likeable than Ezra's flash
The Flashâs opening is bad because we have to consider dips in the box office
you literally 5 minutes ago thought you needed to double your investment to make money
Dips of %60, %50, any percent it can go down
Wym it just came out blud
Word of mouth ainât saving the flash.
again, this is opening weekend and it made 130
This is opening weekend, it has to make a solid profit for the rest of the week
First movie to make minus dollars
itll probably have a bad tail
Then we have the second week
'it had a bad opening, everyone is saying this'
'no 130 million is a lot of money!'
it is!
Its a common trend!
đ
Itâs a lot of money when you look at the number 130 million
For movies to make less money second week than the first
130M is a not bad opening!
The most word of mouth it's getting on TikTok is look how bad this CGI is
If No Hard feelings opens to 130m next week thatâs amazing
But for The Flash thatâs not a good number
i dont disagree but lets not outright call this a flop by just barely missing tracking
You canât just choose a one size fits all approach
True
The tracking was ass to begin with
Usually movies are supposed to beat lackluster tracking
The tracking actually said like 140m at the absolute lowest and it somehow earned even lower đ
I KNOW RIGHT?
I just don't understand why so many celebrities were shilling the flash so hard, like it had so much hype
140 is not terrible tracking what are you people talking about
Sucks to suck
Iâm calling it a flop because itâs getting dunked on and no word of mouth plus in 10 days Indiana Jones will dent itâs box office completion
A good opening for the Flash would be 200 million+ for opening weekend
Money and skeletons in the closet probably
Because thats the base budget
It earned less than every other superhero movie this year bar Shazam 2
It can recoup marketing at the end of the week
Even earned less than Black Adam
nothing makes that kinda money
Blud never saw Endgame
It wont make it to its profit area
I can't believe black adam did better
I guess the power hierarchy in DC really did change
So its a bomb
Fr thatâs actually outrageous
a bomb is much worse than that
We just got our money back
Itâs not touching 550/600m
Thatâs the break even for this???
The marketing costs
its not
Being generous yes
Fucking hell
You have to include marketing costs
The rock going to kill the comic writer that wrote 'villain' as a description for black Adam
I guess in the end Black Adam did change the dceu hierarchy.
again, studios dont include anything not in the publicly accounted budget
Its got a 300 million dollar price tag
and those often include the marketing costs now
Thats called fraud
no?
when batgirl was briefly moved to theaters it got a bump in its budget but most of that was marketing
Remember the black adam scenario?
Batgirl would've done better 100%
Womp womp
Kara had like 20 guys firing guns at her and her clothing didnt tear to pieces. I want a refund
When Black Adam was released, they shoved out false information regarding costs
Stating it made a profit
dwayne johnson shoved out fake spin
Black Adams marketing budget was ASTRONOMICAL
What was black adam budget
Too bad so sad!
Itâs Kryptonian material? Idk Plot convenience
thats not the same
thats how hollywood works
Then they did 70m reshoots
James Gunn will save DC, he just needs to bend the knee for Bruce Timm first
Al Capone â The rock â
They cant do that shit
Otherwise everyone is losing god damn money
He knows the numbers they came to him in a dream
The rock: "black Adam Is two and a half hours of non stop action with barely any room to breathe for plot, people want that right?"
We need chris pratt to save the day for DC
Chris Pratt would make a fine booster gold ngl
no the studios still make money, but they find creative ways to hide costs and keep things from looking like they lose lots of money
this is a tradition as old as hollywood
Booster gold is gonna be a trip, people aren't ready for him
He is literally shitty Kang lol
Booster Gold is the reason why James Gunn shifted Blue Beetle into the DCU
for 5 years fox was in a big lawsuit cause the stars of bones got shafted on income
Because he wants Beetle to appear in Booster Gold
The biggest issue with the dceu is that it said it was all connected but it never felt all connected.
As much as I hate marvel films they all felt natural together
DC tax
It actually felt its most connected as it finished
the truth is these studios spend a ton on these movies, and the income is often a big complex mess
Wonder Woman in Shazam, Batman & WW in Flash
I think they just wanted to play the wonder woman theme again
Oh hey
I donât blame them
Remember what I said about box office dips?
but if they said publicly that avatar 2 cost twice as much they would be reamed for it
âTRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE BEASTSâ earns $20M in the filmâs second domestic weekend, a 67% drop.
Read our review: https://t.co/1pXwehqEn7
1433
101
I will listen to that blasting in the cinema
67% DOWN
Yeah thatâs Transformers mate
Its gonna happen to Flash
Okay maybe but
BECAUSE IT HAPPENS TO EVERY MOVIE
We know blud it happens to everyone
congrats on learning 2nd weekends exist
đđđđđ
Flash ainât making anything anymore
The flash gonna release on vod this month or in july for sure
YesâŠthe movie will begin to earn less over timeâŠ
Iâm glad the brave and the bold isnât gonna have multiverse
On TikTok all I see is the scene where flash's head is just floating
Mfs when they learn about 2nd weekend drops:
Transformers, The Flash, Elementals. Which other summer movies are gonna join the box office bomb club
Indy 5
Blud nothing is making money this month
Spiderverse is
This is the worst month in movie history
Spiderverse
lol come check out april 2020
Mission impossible but maybe although I dunno
Pandemic
Hereâs the trick to making a lot of money
Oppenheimer ||/s||
Make a good movie
Real tricky grey area there gotta wait for some presale numbers
indy 5 is gonna be big i think people are wildly underselling that movie
True plus itâs release close to Barbie & Oppenheimer and the IMAX situation
Dceu âdid you say shove in a bunch of pointless cameos? Yeah sure!â
Barbie will do better than the flash lmao
I posted this earlier
Pride Month 2023 has effectively become a movie graveyard, with only one survivor being Spider-Man
graveyard seems strong
again, there have been worse times
and movies have done much worse than the flash
Majority of big releases have that price tag by the way
The 100 million dollar marketing cost
For the trailers and the superbowl spots
again, studios dont count that
How does the flash compare to mcus multiverse movie DS MOM
The bigger budget movies will always struggle the most
Do you remember The Lone Ranger?
Unless your movie is spiderman or avengers
Indiana Jones + Mission impossible is really risky
Justice league had a worse opening weekend
Yeah exactly
250 million dollar base cost
yeah thats what i mean by movies have done worse
yeah it only made 10M
But the large ass marketing cost made them lose even more money
again, studios dont count any marketing costs beyond the public budget
150 million dollar marketing price tag
they dont include that
LOOOL
it was a dissapointment on the 250 price tag alone
Remember John Carter
yeah that was this run of bad live action movies for disney
damn near sank the company
We couldâve won đ
The smaller the budget, the better the marketing costs can be
But large ass budgets + marketing costs = disaster
its the sunk cost fallacy
I like mission impossible but Iâm worried this year
Nah dont
It will deliver
At least they already have the other part planned
john carter, lone ranger, sorcerers apprentice
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One has nothing to worry about in terms of box office
tron legacy
Because of the fact that nothing else releases until the very end of the month
that early 2010s for disney live action was rough
In quality yes, but I donât know about box office then again itâs a big IP
M:I7 is perfectly fine
I do think it will do great at the box office, i mean it's MI
đ€·ââïž
and that was also along with mars needs moms a movie you probably forgot existed, but was one of the more infamous bombs in history
I run through the movie, and a word that describes it to me is "smart".
Definitely but the like 2nd weekend drops might be big due to Barbie and Oppenheimer
Clain you just need to understand the fact thatâŠ
Big Studios canât do this shit anymore
Possibly
Its making them lose money
its a tradition as old as time
This year is just really competitive
Tom cruiseâŠ. ||reverse flash||
Probably more than Iâve seen in a while
hollywood studios manage money like quantum mechanics
Not just some money
Whatâs the drop rates
But a shit ton of money
im aware movies cost lots of money
Whatâs the percentage at rn
The fact that Black Adam most likely had a higher opening than The Flash đ
its the first weekend that literally unknowable
And that must include the marketing cost
they never do
Oh my b
they never will
thats just a fact of hollywood
Its not a fact of hollywood
they literally dont
Its a fact of bankruptcy
thats how theyve always managed their money and how they report costs
The marketing kills movie
And capitalism
You need the budget + marketing first
but they never include all the budget
They offered him a role
Then we need 2x that just to get our money back
or all the marketing
Then past that is additional profit
are we back to you not understanding 1=1
Youâd do it too for a bag
We are back to you not understanding how the box office works
If my opinion suddenly changes on this movie just know they gave me a nice bag
Tom cruise as reverse flash
Keep Tom away from that shitshow đ
you get your money back when you earn your money back, not double that
I understand that but where does the additional profit come from?
Because we got our money back
But we just have our money back
Studios need more than that
additional profit is just whatever else we get back
I got a question
Tom Cruise is the only reason Paramount is gonna be able keep the lights on.
Does this film even reset the universe?
sorta?
wdym sorta?
look the superman movie is the real start point
Joaquin @uncut grotto
Hell no
Isnât this the start of James guns thing
its not a total reset
it doesnt really totally establish the new world of these movies
Are you serious?
this movie is still a artifact of a different era

they wont totally establish the new universe till his superman movie happens
I got a question
Thats where the 2x stuff comes from. Itâs simple as fuck steps my guy:
- We spend money on movie
- We spend money on marketing
- Release the movie
Then the box office milestones it needs: - Breaking even: making total cost
- Giving us money: 2x total cost
- Additional profit
We saw him talk to George Clooney Batman heâs not in his own
Thats how its always been
This movie should have reset everything tbh
So, did they actually plan this stuff before they made the flash?
ok um "giving us money is 2X cost" isnt how math works
UNLESS THEY BRING CLOONEY BACK đđđ
ITS HOW IT FUCKING WORKS
nope
Itâs always been that way
IDEK đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
This shit is wack man
Nah blud youâre confused
it really isnt. thats getting healthy profit margins, not the start of profit
This shit is sooo wack
Anything below 2x is a disappointment
The flash 1 billion box office when
Well
Because they got only their money that they spent back, and nothing more
They broke even but they need more cash
its a dissapointment cause it could be higher, not because it wasnt making money
Its how this shit always worked
They break even and then they need more money to do more stuff
Otherwise they are recycling the same old money over and over again while continuously losing that shit over time
you know when you get your money back you can reinvest it right?
nope thats actually how most businesses work
you invest it, you earn some profit, invest it again
Yeah exactly
Im not talking about breaking even, ProGamer
Its whats past breaking even
Profit
But keep in mind if I spent 200 mill in the film, the first 200 mill is going to paying thag shit back
just because studios like to make 5 gagillion dollars, doesnt mean profit is bad
Thats how it works
Wdym bruh
yeah but then you add this extra "they need to make 400 or its a waste" thing
Yeah but you keep talking about some 2x or 2.5x shit
We make the money back, breaking even, to pay for it. But now we need our stuff back.
I meant that including marketing
And more
you did get your stuff back
thats what breaking even means
Guys listen
BUT WE PAID FOR THE MOVIE USING THAT STUFF WE GOT BACK
yes thats how profit works
And itâs going down fast right?
you dont need to double your investment to make profit
Bros confusing the terms Ong
And now we have less money than what we started with because we paid off the movie successfully
lol wut
đđđđ
thats not how math works
You are looking at a bare bones version of the box office
I AM LOOKING AT HOW IT ACTUALLY WORKS
Shit breaks even first, the total cost
We paid it off
Gamer why you crying?
if i spend 5 dollars, and make back 5 dollars, im not losing money
Nah blud stick to fortnite đ
This shit too funny
Its how simple box office works
The barebones fundamentals
We make the money back
Pay it off
Me too
Wym pay it off you just made your money
Cause I thought
Whoâs bro paying off
This shit was gonna be the end
You just made your money back
yeah and you did that, but then you say its still losing money if it doesnt make twice the amount you spent
The entire universe
Well we spent all the money to make it. So we earn the money back. So we are back to what we started with. But that means we made absolutely nothing.
no you made your money back
The 2x rule is so movies make what they spent and more
Wait a minute
Its a disappointment
hes saying if a movie doesnt make twice that you spent you lost money
and hes including marketing
When a movie spends 200 mil, and gets 300 mill itâs only made a gross of 100 mill right?
Ok so anything over that is profit then
yes
Whatâs bro saying
Technically yes, but thats no good
Iâm confused
but according to hyper hes saying you need 400 to make profit
Itâs not but itâs still profit
guys just inventing new math
Still a profit but its a disappointment
To make a profit period?
Which can cause studio write downs
Well no thatâs not accurate
Yes true but whatâs your point
400 is ideal, but not necessarily a loss
The 2x rule is making twice the budget, if a movie makes that its a success.
Im gonna leave it at that
WE CAN ALL AGREE THIS FILM IS FLOPPING RIGHT?
Yes
wait
interested in hollywood ecomomics
invented new math
is this terrence howard?
So letâs just all, hug and make up
Depends on what they see as a healthy profit margin but it doesnât have to be 2x. Every studio will have it done differently
You canât apply that to all contexts or all movies for that matter
itll probably make its budget back, but WB was clearly hoping for a 1B smash hit
HAHAHAHAHA
ARE YOU SEIOUS?!
LMFAOO
Film would have made more if they showed Flash farting his way through to give him extra speed power
THEY WANTED 1 BIL?
Im not gonna explain basic fundamentals of Box office anymore
Goodbye
I got an aquarium to visit
You ainât no businessman blud
if you look at the way they talked, they clearly expected a big global sensation
đđđđ
True
They did hype it up alot
i probably believe they really had amazing test audiences
But damn even I knew that at the most it would do 500-600 mil world wide
Nothing near a mil
but, this has been a busy month for box office
Oh yeah. Miles been kicking everyoneâs ass
With the cgi there this was fraud or something
and i think the marketing campaign probably got depressed
because you couldnt have michael keaton go on kimmel or whatever
They had to market the hell out of this with all the Ezra shenanigans
True
this was 3-4 times that
you had to put this movie out
you had to try to recoup the money
batgirl tested the same as black adam
but they figured the rock would even things out
in a sense it did
just not the way he thought
Apologies for my anger for the box office conversation
Agree to disagree beyond the break even point
No
Dc on the way to making multiple Batman movies
I hope the Batman 2 can make a billion
Battinson and reeves are like the kid on the swing completely unaware on the trash fire that is the dceu next to them
Itâs so funny
The best DC films to come out in recent years havenât been cannon to the DCU
The Batman
The joker
Oscar winning films
Itâs like night and day
Elseworlds is about to be the kino division of dc
The only division of dc
Honesty this whole DCU has felt like Elseworlds
Little to no continuity
All we need now is
Wonder Woman can fly in 1980 but years later canât
Flash is scared of fighting in Justince League, yet his able to capture boomerang in suicide Squad
Itâs like every director was fighting for their own vision and was unwilling to build upon threads and plot points set up by another
I mean shit, could have had the CW set up a cross over for this film. And the season finale ends with Ezra showing up in the CW verse which then leads into the flash film
But no
I truly believe the lady Gaga factor will bring in people who didnât watch joker before, but thatâs just me
And they will market the hell out of lady Gaga
Gonna make a bet: the flash after this will become the new green lantern, a core DC brand in development hell on a reboot
I can read the Chinese, lol first time was probably true⊠in theaters waiting for the film to start, donât have super high expectation is how you go about it, honestly.
Hard to do a solo Flash or Green Lantern, they are like the Hawkeye and Hulk of DC films
eh green lantern youve just got to do star wars again
Lol
Problem with Green Lantern, is that outside of the Corps stuff, itâs very daily grind, so I think the new Green Lantern buddy cop concept is the right direction to go. At least at the moment, except the Authority, i like all the Gunn directions.
And itâs not going to be easy to do Brightest Day, Darkest Night arcs, arguably the greatest Lantern Corps storylines ever, completely solo.
hes i think being very smart in selectively picking unique ideas to adapt instead of trying to just slap "we need a cyborg movie cause hes in JL" on the slate
the opening bothers me so much
I like the part where the logo comes up
The 2x budget rule kills all
I can effectively explain box office thanks to my mom
Break Even Point is total cost: sets profit down to zero
I can rest easy
It's poetic that Ezra miller is the villain in the flash
Knowing the Flash will fail
Ok, i see the âsubparâ cgi, but the movie itself is good
Fun enough, 3.5/5, 7/10 for a normal film, 4/5, 8/10 for a superhero film.
WaitâŠ. Is Batman and Robin now Canon?

Same, itâs not bad
Well not a 9/10, but not a 1-2
The cgi is an issue, but thatâs not bad enough to take away from the film.
I agree
Yeah if I had to pick itâd also be like a 7-7.5/10

I want to know more about if they paid the families, honestly
I mean hopefully that was at the least done
For me the family doesnât exactly make it okay though because you canât truly speak for a dead person
No, but estate/next of kin does speak for them by law, unfortunately.
Thereâs a less sleazy way of going about wanting to show off these other worlds with the older actors, just use archival footage or something. Why does anyone need a scene of Ezra Miller Flash interacting to an uncanny looking Christopher Reece stand in
To be fair, 2 out of the 3 of the Christopher Reeves shot sets looks ok, just the first one with Supergirl flying in that looks odd⊠and that extends to a lot of shots looking weird, but not all. Honestly I think itâs a time issue.
Nick Cage shots too, for instance, one of them looks ok, the other doesnât.
Itâs an ambitious sets of shots, and this film is filled with crazy shots. I really think they just ran out of time. As to archival, I think it wouldnât have worked as well⊠tho honestly, there are a few ways to make it look good, and they did at least use them in some shotsâŠ
What a disaster. This film is going to bomb.
I donât think it was sleazy, if they did it PERFECT.
Shameful that they choose to cgi characters of actors who are deceased.
Also itâs crazy how many comments this channel already has despite the movie being new.
The fact that Warner bros trusted this movie the most over Batgirl, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman 2 is concerning.
I think the whole CGI of dead actor thing has been in debate forever, and itâs inevitable, sooner or later. Itâs a shame it had to be this way. If the first full cameo was a drama piece, done to perfection, and maybe itâs been done on a few others, then what theyâve done wouldâve just a debate on the quality of the CGI and not the ethics.
Aquaman 2 had issues with Amber Heard, so a large part of that wouldâve needed to be fixed, that will take time, Blue Beetle was always supposed to be this year, Batgirl I blame stupid execs, because it was already nearly done, just pending release⊠the fact that they chose to think that the promotional and distribution budget is going to cost a further loss speaks volumes on their astonishing thought process. Remember, these are the people that fucked with JL so much that it became something else, while the Snyder cut is much much better (at least, in my subjective opinions). I just hope that they will back off once the Gunn-led projects starts to go into production, and of course at the moment Gunn has proven only that he can run franchise and comic films, not a full studio. My faith in him hasnât been validated yet.
I sort of refuse to believe that releasing Batgirl on HBO Max or VOD will not at least make back the distribution platform costs involved⊠which is still better than writing off the whole film and vaulting it. With Brandon Frazier having a bit of resurgence, they couldâve ridden that to at least recoup SOME if not ALL of the production cost⊠instead of writing it off as a loss for tax purposes.
I mean, yes, writing it off as a loss means a whole chunk of it can be remediated and gotten back as a reduction of the business tax, but MAKING money to cover for losses is STILL a better business decision.
They can still write parts of it off, even if the film failed.
Iâm just glad that BW Animation is really a separate and mostly independent group.
Sorry, ranting again
More like 3, but yeah lol
I think they mean actual screentime
Dark Flash was certainly around for like 2/3 minutes
But actual time on screen is a minute
So⊠they couldnât beat Zod?
No
The largest part is Barry Allen with face revealed, thereâs at least 2min of that with dialogue, and a min and a bit of unrevealed.
They broke the multiverse over Zod of all people
Cue the cool punch
Young Flash isnât the brightest tool in the shed
Never had the drive to be anything but himself, the tragedies defines them, that was the message
No tragic back story, no hero lol
And Barry bravely overcame that byâŠmaking the same mistake at the end
Good no message learnt here
Im happy that Ezra Miller is stuck in the dimension where George Clooney is batman.
Itâs the other way around
The evil is locked away
Questions we wish we knew the answer to
Will not be answered until Flash 2
No no no⊠Batman isnât important, itâs the universe with MR FREEZE! Lol
Snyder is stupid because Mr Freeze would be the perfect Batfleck bad guy
The Batman and Robin version?
No
The cooler version
The Flash 2 will answer the following questions:
- Does Batman have nipples?
Thatâs all
Reverse Flash will be played by the officer that arrested him in Hawaii
Flash 2 will not exist, itâs in another dimension, which fortunately we wonât ever see again lol
Ouch, deep cut
"I could drug you"
- An actual line said in the Flash by Ezra Miller himself
Miller did a good job in The Flash, but I donât ever want to see him in a film again until he fucking gets a therapist and spends honest time working on himself.
https://twitter.com/CultureCrave/status/1670562066980306947?s=20
lol she could finally have more lines
Oh right, he was supposed to be helming Nick Cage Superman huh?
Well Burton was directing it
But I think Kevin wrote it or something? He was involved
Okay so it seems Kevin originally pitched it
So his idea basically
His script
But yeah, sooner or later digital dead actors will be a thing, imho⊠I wouldâve preferred that it happened on a more âconventionalâ film first few times, since sorting through the ethics will be a lot easier (still very hard) with those.
Itâs wrong thatâs for sure
And to defend them as Kevin Smith did is..not the right approach
Most especially with George Reeves
Which is just why would they include him
Indeed, but not Grant Gustinâs Flash or any of the really good Supermen etc
George Reeves shouldâve been more archival footage I understand. But short of actually able to make dead speak, im sure their next of kin agreed, and I have less rights than them to discuss if itâs appropriate, you know? At least they PERSONALLY knew him.
Agreed, use those, much less ethical issues.
George shouldnât have been included at all
Heâs the last person that should ever be considered to be referenced
Iâm sure the inclusions was supposed to be a sendup, but it felt more as an insult or tone deaf
Precisely
Theyâre the most cheap cameos out of all these old cameo homage stuff
Adam West at least always loved what he did on The Batman
I mean
Lynda Carter is right there
Brandon Routh, Tyler Hoechlin
So many options
Yup
But in an ideal world it doesnât even happen
That confrontation with Black Flash lasts 4 minutes from him entering to him being erased
And genuinely 2 and a half minutes of that are the cameos
As Iâve said, Adam West and Christopher Reeves were proud of their work as superheroes, George Reeves didnât, at all.
He literally killed himself over it
That should say enough for them to think maybe letâs not include him
Yea, the most wrong inclusion
Letâs add the TV supermen⊠I mean they had a version of Caville, why not ACTUALLY have Caville.
He did shoot it I think
All the TV supermen Dean Cain etc etc
Anyhow, Iâm going to go back to work for a couple more hours
He didnât shoot anything but he was going to appear in a different scene
I just think donât have that scene at all
Adds nothing, no point
Letâs stop doing this for no reason other than to get people to watch it
I said earlier that this movie was cooked domestically at the box-office. But that it could be saved by international audiences.
I'm gonna have to walk that back
If this number holds.. its a certified flop
The Flash only made 9 million dollars in Mexico
And China only gave it 13 million
This movie is DOA across the board
Black widow came out day and date in Disney plus and the Flash can make even lower than that ??
And gotten a tax write off
You're joking, but after these results?
It's a genuine argument to make
The filmmakers of Blue Beetle better watch out
Zaslav might consider shelving it
and you can forget about big marketing campaigns for it
The previous regime really did screw over Warner bros
Honestly shouldâve just canned everything including Shazam 2
Elvis
And tbh thatâs all I can name
It did not
You know it actually grossed less than the original
Had a simultaneous release
They were relying on Flash doing well to pay for their marketing campaigns for Blue Beetle and Aquaman 2
So now theyâre kinda screwed on that front
The devil made me do it made money
Yeah small budget of 150m
Too much money involved to do that
But most people donât even know Blue Beetle exists
Theyâre screwed
If we donât count The Batman
And Joker
Just the actual dceu movies, the last 8 have flopped
DCEU.. not DC, Batman did well and look at the Joker
Like they werenât already?
Joker feels like it was a one trick pony
Trying to replicate that will be interesting
I think the new one will do very but a billion dollars.. I don't see it
Too early to make guesses
Lady gaga as Harley is interesting
But weâll see soon
Ya
Theyâve definitely got 4 flops on their hands this year
Just gotta try and get Jason Momoa to work that mom magic
I think Aqua man 2 can make some money but doubtful now
Movies are just so expensive these days esp comicbook movies
To be fair sometimes they do but they get inflated
But they spend a lot of money that they donât have to
Well they do
Itâs just that this year has shown the strongest correlation between quality and box office of any
Tom Gun Maverick and Avatar 2
After covid, people are wanting to see better movies in the cinema
The movies that make a lot of money are the ones with a generally good consensus
Paramountâs only savior left at the box office is the myth the legend himself Tom Cruise
It was a really good movie as well, a movie making a billion dollars has many repeat viewers and people don't rewatch movies they don't like
He loves everything
With some obvious exceptions like Mario which didn't have great critics ratings
Bless
Not talking about critics
Nobody loves everything
You sure take a good shot at it
I had a blast with that movie
You could argue you didnât personally like Mario
But general consensus found it to be good
I hated morbius
People still wanna see Superhero movies if itâs Superheroes people care about. The niche superheroes are done.
Agreed
Strong audience consensus and strong IP
They just want good movies
exceptions are horror movies
Guardians of the galaxy isnât niche anymore though
Horror just always makes good money anyway
Oh yeah he was, holy shit forgot that guy
they can have no IP and lower audience scores and still make bank
Ever since the second one Guardians become a household name
Marvel thing doesnât work much now
Oh sure.. and X men dark phoenix and the new mutants were masterpieces too
If I were James Gunn, I'd be calling Zaslav and asking for more time on Legacy. Releasing that movie in 2025 is not a good timeline. DC needs a break and a hard reboot.
Quantumania vs Guardians for your most recent comparison
I trust in Gunn
Gunn is good but he can't save this shit
For Superman Legacy donât even focus on creating a universe. Just make a good hopeful Superman movie
They are definitely not averaging a billion dollars but a lot less ?? No.. Phase 4 wasn't a failure box office wise..
Iâm honestly thankful that this hard reset happened with Gunn. The current DCU is just a left behind mess by Zack Snyder
Please tell me where I said they were a failure
I think he can
Theyâre earning a lot less overall, thatâs not an opinion itâs a fact
Theyâre not failing tho
But I do pity Snyder on why he had to leave the DCU, itâs sad that her daughter passed away
They are burned by DCEU movies.. not DC movies or else the batman and Joker would be flops too
Thereâs a difference
Joker and The Batman were wildly different and creative
Gives an incentive to see it
Not by a Zack Snyder fan by all means, but I wonder what wouldâve been the DCU if Zack Snyder didnât left Production and her daughter was still living
I hate to say it but Snyder wouldnât have been any better.
They said the same about Travis Knight. Who arguably made the best Transformers movie by a LANDSLIDE. A- Cinemascore, High critic reviews. And it's the lowest grossing of the franchise. Well, not after Rise of the Beasts continues stinking up the box-office.
Everyone loves Batman and Joker
They're the exceptions proving the rule
I just donât think Snyder was the right fit.
Pretty sure he was told by the big WB heads he has to keep them since theyâre their best received projects both critically and financially
Agreed, typical âtry to do something as homage but fucked it up because didnât actually know the contextâ
There's not even a comparison between MCU and DCEU movies right now.. like one of the worst MCU movies in Antman 4 may make more money than a relatively better DC movie in the flash
Yeah he has lack of understanding of the comics at times and makes things edgy. Like he wanted to make Wonder Woman half kryptonian
Not everyone.. come on, no movie is loved by everyone
I'm not talking about the movies
