Hey!
So I directed a short film last year that I've been sitting on for a few months now for the edit because I'm trying to figure out the 'look' of the picture. I generally think I'd like to go for something reminiscent of early film aesthetics, especially early experimental film (Menilmontant and Man With a Movie Camera are the obvious sources of inspiration, but also the more 'memory as edit' compositional language of the work of Guy Maddin). The issue is, well, I'm poor and this movie was a smut film shot in the woods in the winter, so I filmed it all on an iPhone. I think there's enough footage to make it come together intentionally, but while I've been able to figure out how to replicate some of the language using Davinci Resolve (peepholes and double exposures done through masks), I still don't really have a clue how to replicate some other things.
Preamble over: how do I replicate some of the lens and film processing effects of early film with digital footage and software like Davinci Resolve? Is it possible to do in post? Things like the extreme lighting profiles and the hazy, soft focus look that creates a sort of glow around objects. (Example posted below)
