#Scariest movies you've seen rated LESS than R?

Some of my favorite horror not rated R include The Haunting (1963), The Innocents (1961), Diaboliques (1955), Carnival of Souls (1962)... none of them were restricted by the censors of the time, but they all got good scary stuff. I'm sure there are more recent films that aren't R but are still spoopy AF, what are some of your tops?

The Village was also very creepy/scary.. M Night does a good job of creeping us out while staying below R rating, it seems from my scroll of this thread 🤔

When a willful young man tries to venture beyond his sequestered Pennsylvania hamlet, his actions set off a chain of chilling incidents that will alter the community forever.

An R-rated motion picture may include adult themes, adult activity, hard language, intense or persistent violence, sexually-oriented nudity, drug abuse or other elements, so that parents are counseled to take this rating very seriously.

#

You probably have different ones - but that’s the criteria- there is G , PG, PG-13, R etc

Ooh this is a good question. I would have to go between two films.

•Insidious (2010) - A bit gimmicky and relies on jumps mostly, but dang for someone 13 or younger I think it’s quite effective.

•The Sixth Sense (1999) - I wouldn’t say it’s terrifying or anything but the atmosphere is pretty creepy and once the twist is known it kind of makes the movie a whole different experience on a 2nd viewing. I love when movies do that.

I’m sure there’s better answers out there but idk, that’s kinda as far as “not being rated r” goes to my extent.

I found the intact version of Frankenstein (1931) with the full scene involving the little girl pretty disturbing. I dunno.
