Hi, I've looked over notes, and checked with friends in my class but I'm having a really hard time understanding it.

its not ASA
it is AAS in both
and you have misineterpreted the bisect condition. Its not bisecting side; its bisecting angles

its not that one side is equal to another, its much broader than that
its that, lets take an example
you have 2 triangles ABC and DEF
If you say that these are congruent, then that means these 6 things are true:
AB = DE, BC = EF, AC = DF. angle(A) = angle(D), angle(B) = angle(E), angle(C) = angle(F)
