In the first picture, fuel efficiency (mpg) is represented as a function of gallons of fuel consumed. In the second, gallons consumed is represented as a function of time.
After 15 hours, 9 gallons appear to have been consumed.
In the first graph (which I have identified to be ds/dx = (-1/2)x + 30, after 9 gallons are consumed, the fuel efficiency is 25.5 miles per gallon.
The second graph's equation appears to be (x^2)/25, the derivative of which is 2x/25. At t = 15, this equals 30/25, or 1.2 (gallons per hour).
Taking the two expressions and multiplying, (25.5 miles/gallon) * (1.2 gallons/hour) = 30.6 miles per hour.
The final answer is 30.6 miles per hour.
If my solution involves concepts that are too advanced for the content learned, let me know and I can come up with a solution that better fits your teacher's expectations. I know that in the hints they said to not come up with formulas for the graphs, however, I found it more efficient in this case. I attempted to come up with a solution without doing so, however, I found it very difficult.
