#Need help with unit rate of a fractions

The unit rate of a fraction is basically when the denominator is one. These are helpful for when you need to find how many (thing 1) per (thing 2). For example miles per hour. In your problem you need to find how many apples Mary eats per hour, but your fraction right now is (2 1/3)apples/(1/4)hours. To find how many apples Mary eats in one you need to multiply the numerator and denominator(apples and hours) by something so that the denominator (hours) becomes one. Does this clear anything up?

when you deal with such an imporper fraction, you always have to put the numeral into the fraction
Basically:
The big number at the front multiplies the denominator
then, add that to the numerator
leave the denominator as is, that's all it becomes
to become an improper fraction
