is that (2/x+1 - 1/x-2) = 2/×^2-4+x+4

The reason its 2(x-2) is so the fraction remains the same
Pretty much what you did is multiply both the denominator and numerator of the fraction 2/(x+1) by (x-2)

The quadratic formula is easy,the thing is what are the thing up
The first line to the second line is just rewriting the right hand side, its still the same equation (this is doing something called completing the square)
The 2nd line to 3rd line is putting -b^2/4a +c to the left hand side and take the square root on both sides
