#f(x) = 2.sin(3x-pi)+1

So i was studying with Bing, and the AI suggested me that fuction, so i tried to solve it, and i think that i did
but i don't know, i ask to the AI to graph it, and it sent me this
And then i used a page, and it show me this
ok?
So u get 2sin(3(x-pi/3))+1
Then u find the period
Do yk what the period of this graph is
i used this to find the period:
3x-pi=0
x=pi/3
sorry that isn't the period
2pi/3 it's the period
and then i did period/4
Wait so what’s the question?
but i don't know i got so confused
I'm having issues to graph the fuction lmao
I think that i already solve it
So i did this, let me take a picture
Sorry i really need to sleep lol, let me send you the picture
Ok so i did this to graph the stupid fuction
So pi/3 it's like 1.04
and thats x so i should start to graph it on there
I mean to break it down, steps to follow would be
- Factor the inside part
- Find the period
- Find the vertical and horizontal translation
- Find the midline and amplitude (it helps to draw dotted lines for the midline and the lowest and highest y values)
- Scale by pi/4 and start graphing
No need to approximate it
Yeah, the Ai told me the same, but i don't know i thought that was something more advanced
Since ur scaling by the period/4
So on ur graph pi/3 would be 2 tick marks from the origin
Since the scale is pi/6
Wait I’m confused, what is that 4,5
Mm... so the origin is 0, so i should start graphing on 2 ticks from the origin?
4,5?
Yeah since it’s translated pi/3 units right and 1 unit up from the parent function
So that would be ur starting point
Then u can start graphing key points every pi/6
Which is rlly fast since u divided the period by 4
Yeah i think that i need to learn how to find the vertical translation, i'm skipping some critical steps
Since the parent sine function is at y=0 the +1 raises everything to y=1
Would you like to do a call?
Yeah
That works too
Also one other thing that helps me is that once u get ur key point for the function (pi/3,1) in this case, u can just graph the rest of the function by following the pattern highest point middle point lowest point middle point etc
If the sine is negative, the pattern starts at lowest point from the key point
When plotting points to the right of the key point
It works since u scaled ur x axis by the period/4
Hello, what can I help you?
did my best
Yeaaahhh, you right, it's a good method
The sine is negative when f(x)=2.sin(-3x-pi)+1 right?
No like when it’s -2sin(3x+pi) +1
oh...
it's like 0,5 to 1 to x1 to 1,5
i don't know if that answers your question
hi @trim kernel
r u good at python and javascript?
thats on x
Um the x axis should be scaled by pi/6
hm....
it's because when i tried to put in on pi/6
i got more confused so i said
Cuz the period is 2pi/3
Hello @merry path
It doesn’t matter the actual value of the tic marks if u know where ur point goes
So have the x axis by pi/6
Yeah, i need to practice a lot more to understand this 100%
But i think that i'm more confortable doing this
Yeah
I don’t understand what u scaled it by tho
its like this
Also why does the y axis go 1, 4/5, 2
it's x1
Maybe I’m misreading that
yeah lol
What does x1 mean?
That’s pretty confusing imo, is this standard notation?
Uh...
Like is this something the teacher taught
I don't know honestly
It's something that i use to not write pi/3,pi/2,etc
i didn't specify what x1,...x5 means sorry lol
it's like doing a = pi/3
Oh um u would refrain from creating ur own notation
If u were u, I would js scale by pi/6 and ignore the actual values after scaling
Also I still don’t understand the y axis
😭
Could you try to graph it?
No I mean ur y axis is fine except one thing I don’t understand
so let me try to re-graph it with pi/6
thats 1,5
I’m sorry
😔
Anyways ur graph is all good besides x axis thing then
I think ur good to go
👍
Yeah i think so
But, my first question was
i thought that i always draw like this
starting in 0
but in this example 2.sin(3x-pi)+1
it doesn't start on 0
so i got really confused
but then you explained me this
But now the +1 shifts everything up so y=1 is ur new midline
I assume the vertical line is for the x coordinate of the new key point
the vertical line it's the new midline
The midline is horizontal
fuck
Like how the graph oscillates from mid high low mid etc
Sorry, english isn't my first language, i don't know the meaning of midline on my native language
The mid part is where the middle line is
that's the reason why i look dumb
Spanish
Anything that you need, don't hesitate to dm me
Thanks :)
So let me try to find the meaning of midline
oh ok midline y = 1
and midline = eje medio
ohh yeah, you been trying to explain me that for 20 minutes
perfect i understand it finally
Nice
Ok
Ok and the vertical translation its
pi/3
no wait
ok
perfect
perfect i think i get it, but i need to study all that i ignored since it's very important
Ok, thank you so much @trim kernel 😄
If you need help with spanish, dm me
np
vertical translation is +1 btw
but anyways, i think ur good to go
gl
feel free to ask me if u have any other questions
