Hello, I’m having an existential crisis because I don’t know if it’s wrong to put the square root sign from the start. I mean, does it change anything, and is there no inconsistency in the order of operations?

Hi, there is absolutely no difference! But there is one thing you have missed, and its the +- sign

If you think you might get into trouble/make mistakes, pick one method that you feel like its easier to do, and follow that method

for example:

b^2 = 3^2 + 4^2

b = +- sqrt(3^2 + 4^2)

b= +- sqrt(9 + 16)

b = +- sqrt(25) = +-5

OR

b^2 = 9 + 16 = 25

b = +-sqrt(25) = +-5

no worries u will only lose the point of not writing the +/- sign
