Are you in school?
Alright don't worry
Thats what most of the people usually deal with and I'm sure u can learn it
my body physically wont let me
every time i look at a number i want to smash everything up around me
i cant get help
U can control it trust me
Gimme a second
I'm in another help forum rn we will talk ok? 👀
thats fine
@stoic wing do you still need help?
do you have a specific question?
no just generally starting to learn it
what even does that mean
like numbers, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division
i know quite a bit
oh uh
they teach us on a primary school level in gsce final years
Mathemusician
a number with a superscript
2 to the power of 3?
yep!
yeah i do
ah
ok i think you're good with arithmetic
lets do some algebra then
how would you solve x+3=5?
yes!
i’m so fucking stupid
trust me, i spent a loong time on this, and my algebra's still terrible
hmm ok what about $x^2=4$? there are 2 answers btw
Mathemusician
is it 2
issok!
ok so what happens when you square a negative number?
so for instance, $(-1)^2$
Mathemusician
would it become a positive
Mathemusician
1
bro knows everything and says he knows nothing 👀 ☠️
i don’t know anything past this
so what are the two solutions to this?
well let me tell u smth cool, this is enough for u learn other stuff
alr go on i interrupted
-2?
surry 😁
no
i take it that you are in the uk?
yes
i could
tysm
hmm, how much dyk about polynomials?
If you're in the UK, have you tried Bitesize?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/subjects/z38pycw
Exam board content from BBC Bitesize for students in England, Northern Ireland or Wales. Choose the exam board that matches the one you study.
so for instance if i asked you to solve $x^2+2x-3$, could you?
Mathemusician
(technically that's an expression not an equation, that doesn't have a solution)
ym: "$x^2+2x-3 = 0$"
oh sorry
Waes (Wires)
ivectried
sorry i was afk
.
i don’t even
know where to start
have you heard of the quadratic formula?
no
Could u please tell us which grade u r in? If thats alright
$x=\frac{-b\pm \sqrt{b^{2}-4ac}}{2a}$
year 11
Mathemusician
i have no idea what grade that is
got u
As you can see, this is the formula for a quadratic equation
No worries, @wraith stag isnt it a little too early for quadratic equation?
hmm, given this case then yes
definitely watching khan academy will help you alot
@stoic wing
u have a pretty good amount of knowledge on math and you are ready to learn algebra
I hope u have the time, probably in a month or two u will be good at it
i’m gona try study for at least 6 hours a day
i don’t care if i starve
if i end up ripping my room to shreds fuck it
Real quick @stoic wing (and I'm gonna have dinner so I might not be able to add much atm, but I might come back in an hour) what exam board're you doing for maths?
good luck! 🔥
definitely just ask wherever u get stuck while studying here and u will probably get good explanations for it
From the people in the server i mean
((don't doxx your school name, but) your school's website should have some information on this)
i think it is aqa
i’ll try
Assuming then the AQA GCSE Maths syllabus, for anyone else who wants to assist, https://www.aqa.org.uk/subjects/mathematics/gcse/mathematics-8300/specification/subject-content is the course specification
@stoic wing You may know of, and I would recommend getting, the CGP textbooks
The revision guides in particular on Amazon cost not much more than £5
i just got one today
is this one fine?
ah that's even better, you have practice questions in that one
While it's not AQA-specific, in practice all the exam boards generally cover the same material
So I wouldn't panic over that
i see
To check, are you starting Year 10 or 11?
ah ok
Then you should (ideally) have covered about half of the content in the book
(it'll be scattered knowledge though, because the structure of a textbook doesn't necessarily match the structure of a school syllabus)
So the topics you do understand already and know yourself to be confident enough on, you can skip over to prioritise the topics you don't yet know
Other than that, as Alien said, you can ask questions in the help-channels here when you get stuck on questions, should you need to (see #❓how-to-get-help)
thank you
You can learn anything with the right mindset
Dw about it and just spend time reading daily and doing practice problems and understanding/rejustifying the content to yourself
oki
