having the negative side to the side of the fraction can be thought of as Multiplying
EX I have -(2x+3) you would F.O.I.L. The negative giving you -2x-3
$\dfrac{dy}{dx} = -\dfrac{8x + 3y}{3x + y} = \dfrac{-(8x + 3y)}{3x + y} = \dfrac{-8x - 3y}{3x + y} \ne \dfrac{-8x + 3y}{3x + y}$
