#What order do I move the numbers to the other side to find x?

I thought it was like BEDMAS but reversed, but now that answer seems wrong, logically it should be the second answer I think (matches better with the graph).

so do I follow BEDMAS whilst moving the numbers over to the other side to get x?

Thank you

Just found out both answers are incorrect because i didnt convert to the right measurements but would still like to know in what order I should be moving the numbers over generally, thank you ;-;

where's the 0.35 coming from in your "second" equation ?

#

you meant 0.85?

@prime fable

prime fable
#

i think ;-;

#

ty for pointing that out

hollow rose
#

anyway the second one doesn't make sense yeah

#

you start with 168 = 0.85x + 238.34

#

if you divide on both sides by 0.85, you can't just divide the 0.85x part alone (you know distributivity and stuff)

prime fable
#

so do i just follow bedmas but reverse?

hollow rose
#

168/0.85 = 0.85x/0.85 + 238.34/0.85 this is fine

#

and you end up with the same result as the first thing

#

(168 - 238.34)/0.85 = x

prime fable
#

ohh

#

wait nvm

#

still confused

#

wait like

#

( 0.85x+ 238.34)/0.85

#

?

#

so that means

hollow rose
#

yeah

prime fable
#

0.85x/0.85 + 238.34/0.85

#

ohh

#

ye bc of the x

#

o ok ty

#

wait but do u know if i just follow bedmas but reverse?

#

or like is that not a thing?

hollow rose
#

well typically bedmas reverse gives you a bit of an easier time

#

but anything goes really

prime fable
#

wait so sometimes i need to follow bedmas?

hollow rose
#

well I've shown you that it doesn't matter here

#

you just need to get x on its own, however "legal" way you manage to find

prime fable
#

legal way?

hollow rose
#

well you can't just do broken math like you tried to do in the first place

prime fable
#

I think i sorta understand i think i just needa follow the logic more

hollow rose
#

by just dividing the x part

prime fable
#

i just needa better understand how moving things work maybe

hollow rose
#

that's like saying (1+2)/3 = 1/3 + 2

#

it's completely off

prime fable
#

ye

#

ok tysm ^^

#

ill try to like think about how moving things work (like how when moving the 0.85 over i needed to divde the whole thing)
