#solving x algebraically

i am currently solving this question, i got dy/dx but have trouble when equaling it to 5/4 and solve for x. i tried using trial and error method by pluging in few values but is there any way to solve this without calculator to find x? thanks
Try substituting $t = x + 1$ then you'll get a much cleaner equation in terms of $t$ which will be easier to solve. Remember to get $x$ back in the end though.

the answer i got using calculator is 3
but no idea how to solve it w/o calculator or to show my working
like this? or is there any alternative better ways?🙏
Not using calculator for cubic equations is sorta hard. You can use hit and try but i dont know any other method than that sorry
If you want to, you can try and memorize the cubic formula
aight thank you
