Bearings are a way to represent direction, like north south etc. But more precise.
We start from the north, labelling it as '000'. From there on, we represent the direction in which we are facing as an angle from the north, going clockwise.
Say I'm facing east. That is 90° from the north. Hence my bearing is 090. North East would be 045, i.e. 45° from north.
South is at 180° from north and hence a bearing of 180.
West is at 270° and hence has a bearing of 270. (Note that we go clockwise, which is why we say 270 instead of 090)
And any direction in between can be represented similarly, just take the angle clockwise
