An even function is symmetric along the y axis. Like, if you put a mirror on the y axis, the function would be a reflection of itself

An odd function is symmetric to a half rotation around the origin. Like if you had a graph, and rotated it one half turn, then it would be the same graph

you can see that they're using sin as en example of an odd function, and cos as an example of an even function
