I'm trying to look at an example to help me solve a similar problem, but I do not understand how to do it. The concept is new to me (or I need a refresher).
Like how does all the separate ones equal the numerator? Why?

you’re trying to express the complicated fraction in the form of simpler fractions. So instead of one big messy fraction, you write it as a sum of several fractions. Each of these is a simpler fraction with a constant (A, B, C, D) over simpler denominators. then to figure out what values A, B, C, and D should have, you multiply both sides by the common denominator (the denominator from the original fraction), which cancels out the denominators and leaves just the numerators. you’ll have an equation where the left side is the numerator from the original fraction and the right side is a combination of terms involving A, B, C, and D. You pick values for 𝑥 that make most of the terms cancel out, so you can solve for A, B, C, and D individually. \ all the terms except for the one with A disappear, letting you solve for A. This works because, for the equation to be true for all values of 𝑥 the numerators on both sides have to match up exactly. So by plugging in specific values for 𝑥 you're isolating the different constants (A, B, C, D) one by one.
