i reckon you have to put the terms on diff sides
like the 3x cube root (1/x) + 20 = 2x cube root x
and cube everthing
let x = u^3
and go from there
just solve for t and get x

I mean, did I make the right decision? it's just that I have never solved such examples and did not replace them 2 times(t,u), I really want to learn how to solve difficult examples for myself and understand mathematics better

why are you not allowed to use substitution. thats like the most intuitive way to do it

its like solving an integral to like the 5th power without u sub it just takes longer

Learning to do substitutions is a great skill to have, especially later on. Being able to see a pattern just might give you the opportunity to score more points on an exam.
Of course it is also important to know how to solve problems in multiple ways. And I think it is a good way to practice.
But on exams, do what works for you. But before exams learn as many techniques as possible as it will help you in the future.
just as a point of reference if you see something obnoxious like this in the context of solving a variable think about how you can substitute it
