I dont exactly know if this is a paradox but

imagine you have 5000$ in your bank account, and you cant withdraw them. but you can take some money from your wallet and do a coin flip. if your side wins you get the amount betted from your own bank, if you dont then your bank account's money increase ( which you still cant withdraw ) imagine if the bank takes 2.5% fee for every coin flip

are the chances of winning this higher or is it equally the same as just gambling

so you don't win anything either way

#

the way you described it you just get to deposit or withdraw money depending on the outcome

#

ok i;m confused

#

if you keep the bet even when you lose, then yes, this is free money

if you lose the its going to the unwithdrawable bank account

#

you keep the bet when you lose, just in the bank account which you cant withdraw

#

so you lose the bet to the account

#

then nothing changes either way

#

if you treat the account as your money, you obviously never lose or win anything

#

if you treat it as not your money, then this is how gambling works

#

the paradox is essentially "imagine you can't withdraw money but it's still your account"

but either way you want withdraw it

you can play this game right now, take $1 and put it on the ground outside
the next day, there's going to be $0, or $1, or more than $1 on the ground
if the money is gone, it went to your city's population, you can't withdraw it; otherwise you win money from your city's population

#

the chances are different from a coinflip but it doesn't change the result, it should be win-win by the same logic

#

i guess you can argue that it's only a good deal with equal chances, like there's some perceived utility in having "your account" increase, so it's maybe even worth the fees, but if the chances are that you lose, then it's not worth

#

i don't know if that's what you're talking about
