This algebra video tutorial explains how to solve quadratic equations by factoring in addition to using the quadratic formula. This video contains plenty of examples and practice problems.

119 * 24 = 2856

According to the video I would suggest this:

We want to find integers x and y so that 2856 = xy.
Additionally we need the x + y = 110.
So we get

(1) 2856 = xy
(2) x + y = 110

Then we get two solutions (42,68) or (68,42) doesn't matter, as 42 * 68 = 2856.
So we can rewrite the equation as

119a² + 110ac + 24c² = 0
119a² + 68ac + 42ac + 24c² = 0 ...write 110ac = 68ac + 42ac
17a(7a+4c) + 42ac + 24c² = 0 ...factorize 17a the common factor
17a(7a+4c) + 6c(7a+4c) = 0 ...factorize 6c the common factor
(7a+4c)(17a+6c) = 0 ...realize that (7a+4c) is a common factor

I hope this helps, even though it's overkill.
