Can someone teach me about parabolas

They tried to teach me at school but it didn't make sense...

Parabolas are U-shaped lines on a graph

They’re associated with “quadratic functions”

The equation for a quadratic function is ax^2 + bx + c, or in vertex form it’s y = a(x - h)^2 + k

But you may ask what is the vertex? The vertex of the parabola is the highest point of the U shape
