What if you don’t know the domain
then you cannot assign an inverse to that function, or basically we can assume the domain R, but then the function doesnt have an inverse because it is not bijective
since there are no restrictions

basically the inverse of y = something based on x, is now to write it as x = something based on y
so you need to isolate x
what the other guy was saying was that there are multiple possible inverses (2 in this case) and if you knew the domain, you could figure out a specific inverse
